Our group of four hikers really liked this place. The location is great, the rooms spacious and functional, and the staff brilliant. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. So, top marks. The only quibble was that the wine choice was extremely limited.

Extortionate price for a freezing room with no really hot water. Bar was cold too (no logs put on fire) although food and beer were good. Landlady was unsympathetic - "no one else has complained". She suggested I could have put a second duvet on top. Talk about denial!!!!! Avoid this place if you want value for money and/or until the temperature rises above 18 degrees.

The food in the restaurant was very good however on the Sunday night I ordered fish pie but I found it was cold in the middle so had to send it back. The Sunday dinner choice was very poor too. The staff were vey good and friendly but I found that the whole place really needed a good clean. Also it was a little noisy too in the court yard in the evening. Overall I would not stay here again and would not recommend to others.

From the outset it looked so promising; the long driveway, the picturesque view of the outside of the property. Such a great start. We had a warm welcome and were shown to our room. It was quite a large room that overlooked the courtyard. Whilst there were elements that tried to make it look modern, it was very dated, circa 1975. We went for food in the restaurant. This was lovely. Good service and great food. This was the same every evening. The first evening I went to shower. The drain was blocked so it flooded. The landlord was great and it was fixed the next day, but not the best start. Breakfast was not great - very surprising after evening meals. Minimal. Not freshly cooked. Not a lot of choice. Staff were lovely however. The longer we stayed, the more the lack of cleanliness became clear. The smell on entering the accommodation was like a urinal, with added damp. It had a musty old cigarette smell too. This was the same in the room. The cafetière still had remnants from previous occupants and I couldn’t put the extractor fan on as it was full of dust. This was the same with the carpet (filthy and not hoovered) and the layer of dust on the bedside table was horrible. We left used mugs out to be cleaned and asked for a room clean (you say at breakfast). When we went to make tea later, they still had water in the bottom from where they had been rinsed in the bathroom sink and had tea stains still in them (that could be wiped out with a tissue). Utter shock. Never again.
