What Guests Say About Their Stay

Was upgraded to a seaview room which was nice. Room was a bit dated and could do with more plug sockets. Bathroom was small but adequate. It was extremely hot and there was no fan, fortunately we had been to stsy with family and had a big fan in the csr or we would have struggled with the heat. Pool area needs work! Some of the safety glass panels around the pool area were cracked, the pool beds and chairs badly need replacing with many broken. People ordered food and eat at a pool table, as soon as they moved there was mayhem with the seagulls, so many of them that they knocked crockery off the table which smashed. No one came to collect and about 30 minutes later the barman csme out and delivered cocktails to a couple of residents. I felt sure he would clear up the mess but he just walked past it! I then thought well he will tell a waitress, nothing! We were at the pool for a further 30 minutes, when we left the plates and mess was still there. Hotel is a little out of the Town Centre but we thought it was walkable, elderly residents might consider it too far by foot. Night porter was lovely, very friendly. Manager was very nice and dealt with a breakfast mix up with politeness and was very fair. Pool area main issue and is in need of some love.

Tremendous hotel - staff excellent and whilst it’s like going back in time ( a lovely reminder of the old days ) how life should be the hotel for the price is exceptional especially the pool area with the beach just across the road - we only booked one night but have just rebooked another as it’s so good!

The first room we were given was not up to 3 star standard. We contacted reception the next morning and they were very considerate and we were offered an alternative room that was more acceptable. The location, food and the staff were excellent. We hope to return.

The hotel was clean and tidy. The decor is super old and there are a lot of stairs mid level between lifts (one side of the hotel not sure about the other side). I would say it’s airing on Posh and not ‘family’ friendly but for one night we were very happy. My 7yr old and I enjoyed the jacuzzi and the pool was too cold for me!

Double room was small and very hot, fan helped a bit. Water was clean in pool but hand rail could be tightened. Not allowed in main area first afternoon due to private function (an area we choose hotel for the view). Next evening another group took over most of the entertainment area, one of their dogs was off lead, on and around dance floor, another dog was sitting on the chairs. Entertainers good. Drinks price high and varied in quality due to bar or restaurant prepared Okay if you are on a deal or package but not otherwise. Felt as a hotel guest in the way.

We stayed at this hotel as a group of six, in three different rooms. The location is wonderful, right on the seafront with an enormous sea view. The atmosphere is nostalgic, old-fashioned, and classic, which we really enjoyed. Parking was available with an overnight charge and proved very convenient. The small swimming pool and hot tub were well preserved and pleasant to use. Staff were welcoming and friendly, which made us feel at home. Overall, the hotel gave us the impression of stepping back into the 1980s in a charming way. The only real issue was with our room (number 30). While our friends’ rooms on the first floor were well accommodated, our second-floor room was less comfortable. The old-fashioned furniture can be part of the charm, but in this case the bed and bed sheets felt very dated and not entirely clean. The coloured rug on the floor also seemed worn and unclean. The shower was the most problematic feature, with very low water pressure and a faulty mixer tap. Unfortunately, this made it difficult to rest comfortably overnight. It’s worth noting that this seemed to be specific to our room, the others were fine, but room 30 would benefit from some updates and redecoration to match the otherwise positive experience of the hotel.

Staff were ignorant never spoke or said please /thank you , pushed passed us in the lift on our day of leaving as they couldn’t wait for me to take the case out the lift , hotel was run down needing a massive makeover , lift was something out of the 1940’s with sliding metal doors to enter and exit , furniture in room was dated back to the 1980,s and the shower and cubical was a joke there was hardly any water pressure for the shower and the cubical would fit a small child only not a full grown adult .in the bar the larger was on offer , I know why now as it was awful, probably passed its sell by date .beds and pillows were awful like sleeping on a stone slab , I have thrown better pillows away ! This hotel was not cheap and with hindsight I wouldn’t have booked it , should charge no more the £70-80 per night in my opinion as we stayed at a better hotel the night before with breakfast for less than we payed here, My option give this hotel a big miss!!

On arrival, the receptionist seemed to have a negative attitude and was far from welcoming. Two nights booked and paid in advance, but left after one. I never read the bit about paying to park (£5 per night) or breakfast. No fan in the bedroom, but could upgrade for an additional £60. We have stayed in many Torbay hotels over the last 40 years, but will never return to this one.

Staff were fantastic, could not do more to help you. Food was lovely. Room was very basic, but clean, only thing I would suggest is to place fans in the room as it was extremely hot. Other than that I would stay there again.

Lovely friendly hotel, limited on amenities, for example no air con or fan, budget tea and coffee making, but staff and atmosphere made the day! Would go again even knowing this and only having 4 hours sleep due to heat in room 👍

Care to spot the entrance to the hotel is needed, as the road is busy. The hotel is comfortable. We had a problem finding the room, as the numbers of the rooms aren’t sequential. It would be useful to be told that when checking in as it was confusing. We attended a concert and it was lovely to have a room and avoid an hour’s drive home afterwards.

We booked this quite spontaneous and last minute. We arrived around 9 pm and the reception checked us in pretty swiftly and pointed us towards the room. The main areas of the hotels have quite a rustic feel to it, however the rooms were fairly modern - thought the oil Painting with the food and lobster made me giggle Only thing that I did find negative was that the hotel was advertised as having a sauna - which is the reason we booked it. But the sauna was hidden away in the secret squash arena, and did NOT look like the picture on hotels.com. It worked fine, but it was tiny, no windows and let the heat out quite quickly. Additionally, it was basically impossible to find, and we needed a member of staff to take us there Overall i found this really funny, but I don't think you should advertise it as a facility of the hotel - especially with the current picture
