Hotel staff were polite and very helpful! My room was one king bed and one single bed. It was super comfy! The bed doesnt look like budget hotel bed at all! The room is very spacious and clean as well. It has both ceiling fan and aircond. It takes time for the aircond to be cold but that isn't a problem at all! Everything was super duper good for me. The location of the hotel is at the centre of Kuching. Very strategic! I will definitely come back! Thank you so much Abell Residences! :)

Your Travel Guide to Kuching as a Malaysian Traveler

How to Get to Kuching from Kuala Lumpur and Major Malaysian Cities

The most convenient way to travel to Kuching from Kuala Lumpur and other major cities in Peninsular Malaysia is by air. Numerous airlines operate daily flights to Kuching International Airport (KCH). Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 45 minutes, with fares often ranging from MYR 150 to MYR 400 for a round trip, depending on the booking time and airline. You can easily book flight tickets on Traveloka for competitive prices. book flight tickets through Traveloka for the best fares.

For those who prefer land travel, bus services are available, though this is a significantly longer journey. Buses depart from major terminals like TBS (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) in Kuala Lumpur and travel to Kuching. The trip involves a ferry crossing or flying over the South China Sea, making it an extensive journey that can take over 24 hours. Bus fares are considerably cheaper, usually between MYR 100 to MYR 150 one-way.

Driving to Kuching is also an option for adventurous travelers, particularly those already in Sarawak or Sabah. The journey from Peninsular Malaysia would involve either taking a car ferry or flying your vehicle over. Road conditions within Sarawak are generally good, and navigating to Kuching City Center is straightforward. Be mindful of potential toll charges if you are driving through Peninsular Malaysia to reach a ferry point or airport.

Best Time to Visit Kuching

Kuching enjoys a tropical rainforest climate, meaning it is warm and humid throughout the year. The best time to visit for most Malaysian travelers is generally during the drier months, which typically fall between March and October. During this period, you can expect less rainfall, making it more pleasant for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions. You can book attractions through Traveloka.

However, it's important to note that rain showers can occur at any time of the year in a tropical climate. The monsoon season usually brings heavier rainfall, particularly from November to February. While this might mean fewer crowds and potentially lower prices for accommodation, it could also lead to disruptions in outdoor plans. Traveling during the shoulder seasons, like April to June or September to October, can offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer tourists.

Food and Dining Near Kuching — What Malaysian Travelers Must Try

Kuching is a food lover's destination, and no trip is complete without sampling its iconic dishes. Kolo Mee, a Sarawakian noodle dish, is a must-try. It features springy noodles tossed in a savory sauce, often topped with minced meat and char siu, and served dry or with soup. You can find excellent versions at local kopitiams and food courts across the city.

Another local delicacy is Sarawak Laksa, a fragrant and rich noodle soup with a distinct spicy and sour broth, typically made with shrimp and coconut milk. It's a complex and satisfying dish that differs significantly from its Peninsular Malaysian counterpart. Many eateries offer their unique take on this beloved dish, so be sure to try it from a few places.

For those who enjoy seafood, the Top Spot Food Court is an essential stop. Here, you can select fresh seafood directly from the stalls and have it cooked to your preference – grilled, steamed, or stir-fried. It’s a lively atmosphere and a fantastic way to sample the ocean's bounty. Many of these establishments are halal-certified, catering to Muslim travelers.

Don't forget to try other local favorites like Ayam Pansuh (chicken cooked in bamboo), Midin Belacan (a type of fern stir-fried with shrimp paste), and various types of kuih (traditional cakes and pastries). These dishes offer a true taste of Sarawakian culinary heritage and are readily available at local markets and restaurants, providing a diverse and delicious food journey.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Kuching

Kuching is known for its friendly and diverse population, a mix of Malay, Chinese, Iban, and other ethnic groups. When visiting religious sites like mosques or temples, it's respectful to dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees. Malaysians are generally welcoming, and a polite demeanor goes a long way in cultural interactions.

Safety in Kuching is generally high, with low crime rates. However, like any city, it's wise to take standard precautions. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and keep your valuables secure. For emergencies, the national emergency number is 999, which connects you to police, ambulance, and fire services. It's always good to have this number handy.

To enhance your travel experience, several apps are highly recommended for Malaysian travelers. Grab is essential for convenient e-hailing transportation around the city. For payments, ensure you have the Touch 'n Go eWallet app, which is widely accepted for tolls, parking, and retail purchases. The accommodation area is close to a grocery store and a short distance to Kuching waterfront, comfortable rooms and reasonable price with basic amenities. Spacious and clean.

- Single WiFi, no elevator, lots of mosquitoes, under the bed dirty a lot of dust and garbage, the water pressure in the sink is too tight, the mirror of the cabinet is dusty, there is no bottled water / no dispenser. Hate's! Thin towels, + Bigger Room.

The sink water pressure was very tight, under the bed a lot of garbage, dirty, lots of mosquitoes, dirty and worn window curtains, a lot of dust mirror. The room lights are dim! I hate why nobody wrote and tell about drink water? Do you drink tap water?

The location is very strategic in the city center. For because in addition to the 1st floor is quite satisfied. Please correct the condition of the room on the 1st floor.
