Jerejak Island or Pulau Jerejak is located in Bayan Lepas, off the south eastern tip of Penang Island. A short ferry ride from Bayan Lepas can get you to the island in no time. Jerejak Island is situated in between Penang Main lsland and Seberang Perai, surrounded by the water of South Channel. It was formerly the main leper asylum for the Straits Settlements (1868), a Quarantine Station (1875) and a penal colony (1969). Jerejak Island is not a develop island and so this island is capable in giving you the tranquility and serenity you desire of as the effect of the hustle and bustle of Penang Main Island. How to Get There

By Air

You can take Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Malindo Air flight to Penang International Airport where the flights fly to Penang regularly. Once you reach airport you may take a taxi to Penang Island Jetty. The journey takes up an estimated time of 20 minutes.

By Boat

Take the ferry ride to reach Jerejak Island. The ride takes up around 10 minutes from Penang Island Jetty to Jerejak Jetty with a cost of RM25 for adults and RM16 for children (round trip).

By Car

You can drive to Penang Jetty Terminal via the Penang Bridge and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. If you travel from Kuala Lumpur you may use North-South Expressway to reach Penang Jetty Terminal. The journey from Kuala Lumpur takes 4 hour 23 minutes’ drive away. From the Jetty you may ride a ferry to reach Jerejak Island.

By Train

You may take ETS train to Butterworth train station. Trains leave from Kuala Lumpur's KL Sentral Railway Station and arrive at Penang's Butterworth Railway Station on the mainland, just 15 minutes away by ferry to George Town on Penang Island. From there you may take taxi to reach Penang Jetty Terminal where the journey is 30 minutes from George Town.

Alcatraz Malaysia

Built in 1969 at Jerejak Island (Pulau Jerejak), it was used to house prisoners after the May 13th, 1969 riots. The island becomes a penal colony to detain those involved in racial riots. Now, the prison, the detention camp, Old Quarantine Screening and Isolation Centre, Graveyard of Russian Sailors, Jerejak Tuberculosis Ward and abundant house of prisoner staff are still there. So make your visit to Jerejak Island that full of history.

Jerejak Rainforest Resort

In the daytime adventure village of the resort is where you go for outdoor activity on Pulau Jerejak. Penang War Museum

Penang War Museum in Bukit Batu Maung was a fort built by the British in the 1930s. It is located only 5 km from Jerejak Island. These days it is a museum open to the public and is billed as Southeast Asia’s largest war museum. Visitors can explore tunnels, war exhibits & related artifacts at this former fort with a dark past.

Clan Jetties

Clan Jetties form part of the Penang Heritage Trail. There used to be seven jetties until one was demolished by fire and now six remain. Each jetty is named after a Chinese clan while the Chew Jetty is the most tourist-friendly with the most stilt-houses, the longest walkway, a temple that is worth stopping by and plenty of places for snapping picture of memory.
