CHR is great for staycation. It is clean, beautiful, and well maintained. The staff are friendly and attentive. I love the food, and the breakfast is great. The 'buffet' is served to my table. I don't have to leave my seat at all. I really enjoyed my stay there with my wife. Highly recommended.

Overview of Cameron Highlands Resort

Perched at an elevation of roughly 1,500 metres above sea level on the verdant hillsides of Tanah Rata,

Cameron Highlands Resort

is one of Malaysia's most distinguished luxury retreats. This elegant 5-star property draws its character from the colonial heritage of the region, where British settlers once escaped the tropical heat for the cool, misty air of the highlands. With just 56 beautifully appointed rooms and suites, the resort maintains an intimate atmosphere that larger hotels simply cannot replicate. Every detail — from the teak furnishings and timber-beamed ceilings to the exquisite Jim Thompson silk fabrics adorning the interiors — speaks of refined taste and a deep appreciation for the history of

Cameron Highlands

.

Set along Jalan Arcadia and overlooking a championship 18-hole golf course,

Cameron Highlands Resort

occupies one of the most scenic positions in the region. Tall French doors open onto views of manicured fairways backed by rolling jungle-clad hills, and the year-round cool climate — temperatures typically hover between 15°C and 25°C — makes it a welcome escape from the lowland humidity. The resort is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, a distinction that reflects its commitment to personalised service and world-class standards.

What truly sets

Cameron Highlands Resort

apart is its ability to transport guests to a different era without sacrificing modern comfort. The award-winning Spa Village, guided jungle treks led by a resident naturalist, and the genteel tradition of afternoon tea in the Jim Thompson Tea Room all contribute to an experience that feels both timeless and refreshingly unique. Whether you are drawn by the cool mountain air, the heritage ambiance, or simply the desire to unwind far from the city, this property delivers an exceptional highland escape.

Room Types at Cameron Highlands Resort

All 56 rooms and suites at

Cameron Highlands Resort

are designed to reflect the colonial elegance of a bygone era, with polished timber floors, plantation shutters, and furnishings upholstered in Jim Thompson silk. Standard amenities across every category include complimentary WiFi, an in-room safe, a coffee and tea maker, bottled water, a flat-screen television with satellite channels, a writing desk, plush bathrobes and slippers, and a private balcony with views of the surrounding highlands or golf course.

Deluxe Room

The Deluxe Room spans approximately 38 square metres and offers a choice of a king-size four-poster bed or twin beds, making it suitable for couples and solo travellers alike. The room accommodates up to two adults comfortably. A separate sitting area provides space to relax with a book from the resort's library, while the private balcony frames views of the lush golf course. The en-suite bathroom features a walk-in shower, hairdryer, and premium bath amenities. As the entry-level category at

Cameron Highlands Resort

, the Deluxe Room delivers a generous measure of highland luxury without excess.

Premier Room

A step above the Deluxe, the Premier Room provides additional living space and enhanced appointments. Guests enjoy a king-size four-poster bed draped in fine fabrics, a more expansive sitting area, and upgraded bathroom provisions. The room is ideal for travellers who appreciate a touch more elbow room and refined finishing. Like all accommodation at the resort, the Premier Room features timber and silk interiors that evoke the

Cameron Highlands

of the 1930s, combined with every modern convenience a discerning guest would expect from a 5-star property.

Junior Suite

The Junior Suite measures approximately 51 square metres, offering a notably spacious layout that includes a generous sleeping area with a king-size four-poster bed and a well-defined living space. This category is well suited for couples celebrating a special occasion or travellers who simply prefer more room. The bathroom is appointed to a higher specification, and the private balcony is ample enough to enjoy your morning coffee while taking in the highland scenery. The Junior Suite strikes a fine balance between indulgence and value at

Cameron Highlands Resort

.

Cameron Suite

The signature Cameron Suite is the resort's flagship accommodation, spanning approximately 76 square metres of impeccably designed space. This suite features a king-size four-poster bed in a separate bedroom, a large living area furnished with comfortable seating, and a writing desk that overlooks the golf course. The bathroom is generously proportioned and fitted with premium fixtures. Suitable for up to two adults, the Cameron Suite is the top choice for guests seeking the ultimate expression of highland luxury. Every element — from the handpicked Jim Thompson fabrics to the carefully curated artwork — reflects the resort's unwavering attention to detail.

Colonial Suite

The Colonial Suite pays direct homage to the grand plantation homes that once dotted the

Cameron Highlands

landscape. With its own distinct character, this suite offers a separate living room, a king-size four-poster bed, and period-inspired décor that blends seamlessly with modern amenities. Guests staying in the Colonial Suite enjoy an elevated level of privacy and space, along with personalised touches that underscore the resort's reputation for thoughtful hospitality. It is an excellent option for those who wish to immerse themselves fully in the heritage atmosphere that defines this remarkable property.

Facilities and Amenities

The crown jewel among the resort's facilities is the

Spa Village Cameron Highlands

, an award-winning wellness centre that draws on the healing traditions of the Orang Asli, the indigenous people of the Malaysian highlands. Treatments incorporate locally sourced ingredients such as freshly picked tea leaves, rose petals, mint, and thyme. Signature experiences include tea-leaf baths, aromatic body scrubs, hot stone massages, and Swedish massage therapy. Every spa session begins with a foot ritual and herbal drink, setting the tone for complete relaxation.

Guests who prefer an active pursuit will find a well-equipped fitness centre on site, along with a rooftop terrace where cool highland air makes stretching and yoga particularly invigorating. The resort sits directly opposite the Sultan Ahmad Shah Golf Club, an 18-hole, par-71 championship course measuring over 6,100 metres. Tee times can be arranged through the concierge, and the proximity — just steps across the road — makes it remarkably convenient for keen golfers visiting

Cameron Highlands

.

Nature lovers are exceptionally well served. The resort's resident naturalist leads guided jungle treks along the celebrated Jim Thompson Mystery Trail, a roughly two-hour walk through primary rainforest rich in wild orchids, pitcher plants, rhododendrons, and birdlife including White-throated Fantails and various Sunbird species. The trail is named after the American silk entrepreneur Jim Thompson, who famously disappeared in

Cameron Highlands

in 1967. Additional facilities include a garden, a library stocked with reading material on local history and natural history, a boutique, and complimentary high-speed WiFi throughout the property.

Location and Getting There

Cameron Highlands Resort

is located on Jalan Arcadia, 39000 Tanah Rata, in the state of Pahang. Tanah Rata is the main township and administrative centre of

Cameron Highlands

, making the resort well positioned for exploring the wider area. The highlands sit on the Titiwangsa Mountain Range, approximately 200 kilometres north of Kuala Lumpur.

The most common route from Kuala Lumpur is by car via the North-South Expressway, followed by a scenic ascent through winding mountain roads. The total journey from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) takes approximately three and a half hours under normal traffic conditions. Private car transfers can be arranged through the resort's concierge, while ride-hailing services and rental cars are also viable options. Express buses operate from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur to Tanah Rata, with fares starting from approximately RM 35 one way and journey times of around four hours.

Once in Tanah Rata, the resort is a short drive from the town centre. Nearby attractions include the iconic

BOH Tea Plantation

, where visitors can tour the factory and enjoy tea with panoramic views; various

strawberry farms

that offer self-picking experiences; the colourful

rose gardens and flower nurseries

along the main road; and the many

jungle waterfalls and hiking trails

that criss-cross the highlands. The Mossy Forest at Gunung Brinchang and the Butterfly Garden are also within easy reach. The resort's concierge team can arrange tours and transport to all major sights.

Dining at Cameron Highlands Resort

Cameron Highlands Resort

offers three distinct dining venues, each with its own personality.

The Dining Room

serves as the resort's main restaurant, presenting a menu that marries traditional English fare with the vibrant flavours of Asia. Breakfast here is a highlight — a cascade-style spread featuring freshly baked pastries, seasonal fruit, yoghurt, cereals, eggs prepared to order, pancakes, and traditional Asian noodle dishes. Dinner at The Dining Room is an elegant affair, with dishes crafted from highland-fresh produce whenever possible.

The

Jim Thompson Tea Room

is arguably the resort's most iconic space. Open daily from 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m., it presents the time-honoured ritual of English afternoon tea in a setting that oozes colonial charm. A three-tiered stand arrives laden with finger sandwiches — think smoked salmon, cream cheese, egg and cress — alongside oven-fresh scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, delicate pastries, and plump local strawberries drizzled with chocolate. Teas are sourced from the surrounding highland plantations, offering a flavour that is as fresh as it gets. Afternoon tea here is one of the most beloved traditions in all of

Cameron Highlands

.

Gonbei

, the resort's Japanese-inspired restaurant, specialises in steamboat dining. An open-concept layout allows guests to select the freshest highland vegetables, succulent seafood, and prime cuts of meat to cook at their table in rich, simmering broths. Gonbei holds the distinction of being one of the few Japanese dining experiences in the highlands, and the cool mountain climate makes a steaming hotpot all the more satisfying. A well-stocked bar rounds out the resort's food and beverage offerings, serving cocktails, wines, and spirits in a relaxed lounge setting.

Why Stay at Cameron Highlands Resort

A heritage experience unlike any other.

Few hotels in Malaysia can claim such an authentic connection to colonial history. The Jim Thompson silk interiors, the mystery trail through the jungle, and the ritual of afternoon tea combine to create a narrative-rich stay that goes far beyond a standard hotel booking. Staying at

Cameron Highlands Resort

is as much about stepping into a story as it is about comfort.

Award-winning wellness rooted in local tradition.

The Spa Village is not a generic wellness centre transplanted into the highlands — it is a facility deeply informed by indigenous healing practices and the natural bounty of the surrounding rainforest. Tea-leaf baths and botanical body treatments offer something genuinely distinctive, and the cool highland air only heightens the sense of renewal.

Intimate scale, exceptional service.

With only 56 rooms, the resort can afford to deliver a level of personalised attention that larger properties cannot match. Staff recognise returning guests, remember preferences, and go out of their way to curate individual experiences, from guided nature walks to bespoke spa programmes.

Unrivalled location for highland exploration.

Positioned in the heart of Tanah Rata with a golf course at its doorstep and jungle trails winding from the property,

Cameron Highlands Resort

is ideally situated for both relaxation and adventure. Tea plantations, strawberry farms, flower gardens, and misty waterfalls are all within a short drive.

Cool climate, year-round comfort.

The highland temperatures of 15°C to 25°C mean there is no need for air conditioning and no season to avoid. Whether visiting during school holidays or on a midweek retreat, the weather in

Cameron Highlands

is consistently pleasant and refreshingly cool.

Tips for Booking Cameron Highlands Resort

Book early for peak periods.

Cameron Highlands

is one of Malaysia's most popular domestic destinations, and the resort's limited inventory of 56 rooms means availability can be tight during school holidays, long weekends, and festive seasons such as Christmas and Chinese New Year. Booking at least four to six weeks in advance for these periods is strongly recommended. For the best selection of room categories, midweek stays between Tuesday and Thursday typically offer wider availability.

Request a golf course-facing room.

While all rooms are tastefully appointed, those with a direct view of the 18-hole golf course enjoy particularly striking vistas, especially in the early morning when mist rolls across the fairways. When booking, specify a preference for a higher floor with a golf course outlook for the most memorable panorama.

Pair your stay with a spa package.

The Spa Village treatments are a signature part of the

Cameron Highlands Resort

experience, and the resort periodically offers packages that bundle accommodation with spa credits or pre-selected treatment programmes. Checking Traveloka for bundled deals can deliver better overall value than booking room and spa separately.

Plan around afternoon tea.

The Jim Thompson Tea Room's afternoon tea service is a must-try highlight. As it runs from 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. daily, consider timing your check-in — which begins at 3.00 p.m. — so you can settle in and head straight to the tea room. Check-out is at 12.00 p.m., giving you a full morning to enjoy the facilities or squeeze in a final jungle walk before departing.

Bring layers and comfortable walking shoes.

The highland climate is noticeably cooler than the rest of peninsular Malaysia, and temperatures can dip further in the evening. A light jacket and closed-toe shoes suitable for jungle trails will serve you well. If you plan to join the guided Jim Thompson Mystery Trail, the resort's naturalist can advise on appropriate gear upon arrival.

The staff was above and beyond, genuinely connecting to guests. Ravi, manager of food and beverage, was attentive, knowledgeable and so warm and welcoming. The hotel was beautiful on the inside. Serving staff Hridoy, Kistan and Myint were always warm and helpful. However the location in the busy highway was a big deterrent. It was noisy with motorcycles and very dangerous to cross. The hotel felt cut off from the rest of the local community. There is a serious need for an overpass to be built. Perhaps several hotels and the golf course could cosponsor an overpass with the town of Tanah Rata. Again the hotel and staff were exceptional. The location is challenging

Light sleepers, beware. I could not sleep more than a couple of hours each of the two nights that I was there in early Jun recently. The Resort sits right next to the only and heavily used highway through Cameron Highlands. Traffic noise had kept me awake past 3 am, and woke me again at 5 am. Admittedly, it might have also been the acoustics and angle/facing of the room that I heard every motorcycle, car, van and truck passing by vividly, as if I was lying right on the pavement. The ear plugs the Resort provided in the room as standard equipment did not help at all. The low rating is given mainly because the Resort failed to provide the sanctuary I expected, the home away from home where I could relax and be rejuvenated after the day's activities. And for more than USD300 a night, the room also offered no satellite tv, cable channels, comfortable beddings, or even pleasant-smelling linens. There are newer and better options in the vicinity, truly. Perhaps it is more refreshing to enjoy the Resort's history, its old English charm, and the great service of its staff with say, a visit for high tea. Just stay one night for the experience, if you must.

The staff are all incredible and it's a gorgeous hotel. The only thing to note is that most of the rooms face the main road which was noisy even for us Londoners accustomed to using earplugs. We didn't ask to move since we only stayed two nights so maybe there are some quieter rooms - but it did look like they're all on the same side of the hotel. Also the walking guides they provide were the highlight of our trip - such incredible knowledge as they take you through the jungle. It was worth staying at the hotel even if it was just for them

The hotel location in front of the golf club is excellent. The hotel is elegant and grand, and value for money. The staffs are very professional and friendly. The F&B is just okay. The breakfast was very mediocre; the hotpot at the Gonbei Restaurant was excellent ; the afternoon tea was okay and the dining room dinner was just average. Only the ice plant salad was exceptionally good. The hotel grounds were beautiful. The room with the balcony was very specious and bright. TV was not working some of the time, with only a few channels.

Truly Caring Staff and a Memorable Stay We stayed at Cameron Highlands Resort for 3 nights starting 11 April, booking 6 rooms for our family. The staff, especially Kimie and Kee, were incredibly patient and helpful in accommodating our requests—twin beds, room preferences, and even upgrading us to a suite so my sister with mobility issues could stay close to us. On our second day, my elder brother, who has Parkinson’s, suddenly lost consciousness due to the highland altitude. It was a terrifying moment. Kee responded swiftly and arranged an ambulance within 15 minutes, while Kimie offered to drive me to the hospital. Thankfully, after medical attention, my brother recovered well. Kimie stayed with us the entire time—his kindness and support truly touched us. The resort itself is beautiful, with a charming British colonial design and a calm, welcoming vibe. All the staff were warm and friendly, making us feel completely at home. We’re so grateful and will definitely return. This is not just a lovely resort—it’s a place with genuinely caring people. Room was great, except for the windows. They were not properly fitted and let all the road noise in. The hotel has provided ear plugs so we're conscious of this, but the noise was very bad. Food was great but expensive. Service was very good. I would return.

The hotel was excellent in every way, especially impressed with all the lovely staff. Waiters at steamboat dinner and breakfast were fantastic, so friendly but very professional , nothing was too much trouble. could not fault them in any way. Checkin/checkout staff lovely and welcoming. Concierge staff very helpful and welcoming. Hotel furnishings and atmosphere lovely. Enjoyed the games room and snooker table.

It's just next the the road, those light sleeper would need to put on the ear plugs.

I had a fantastic stay at Cameron Highlands Resort and what truly made the experience exceptional was the outstanding service from Husain. He looked after us during both dinner and breakfast, always with a warm smile and a personal touch that made us feel genuinely cared for. His attention to detail and thoughtful approach were truly impressive, Husain is easily one of the best hotel staff members I’ve ever come across.

Thank you!

Cameron Highlands Resort offers a charming and elegant stay in the heart of the Highlands. The hotel itself is beautifully maintained with classic colonial-style decor that adds to its appeal. While traffic noise can be noticeable at times due to its location along the main road, the overall experience remains pleasant. The staff were consistently warm, polite, and helpful throughout our stay, which really enhanced our visit.

A great hotel in beautiful surroundings. Rooms were very clean and staff were very friendly. The hotel took you down to a time of colonial days. Would definitely recommend it.
