If we could take a boutique hotel with us whenever we're on holiday, this would be the one!
What a wonderful place! The hotel is small so has a very personal feel. It is beautifully decorated and furnished with great attention to detail. We stayed in the Sari room which was decorated very tastefully in an Indian style. There is a fridge in the room which is always topped up with cold water and nutmeg cordial - excellent for cooling down when you get in after a long day. Every evening, we'd come back to a little treat - like chocolate cake or brownies. There is a small roof terrace which is a bit noisy because it's by all the fans but it was nice to relax there with a cup of perfect iced coffee which is brought up to you like room service. There is also a library area with books and DVD’s to borrow. The location is good – a five minute walk to the main attractions and close to bars and restaurants. There is also a good Italian restaurant attached to the hotel called Il Bacaro. We weren’t going to go there at first because it seemed strange to eat Italian in Asia but I’m glad we did as the food was excellent. You can also get a good glass of wine (I struggled to find good wine in Malaysia!). The restaurant walls have framed pictures by a local photographer for sale. We bought one but when we got it home, realised there was a splash of paint on it. I emailed Nardya (the owner) and she immediately arranged to have a new one printed and sent to me in England. I was so pleased and so glad that we stayed there.

Unbelievably good service
This hotel is amazing overall. It's a beautifully restored house in the Peranakan or Chinese Malay style, in the middle of historic Georgetown, full to the brim with gorgeous rugs, beautiful furniture, intricate woodwork, and any number of decorations, lamps, cabinets and art. Everywhere you look it is immediately obvious how much care and detail the owner and have put into the hotel. Despite all of this, though, it's never cluttered. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room to move, no shortage of storage space for your luggage and shopping, and with high-ceilings that gives it a very open feel. Despite the classical style that the entire hotel is reminiscent of, there are plenty of modern amenities: fast, reliable wifi, DVD players and TVs in each room, plenty of outlets and sufficient lighting. The staff is knowledgeable and amazingly friendly, are easily able to help with sightseeing plans, restaurant reservations, and travel arrangements to and from the airport and around the island. They have a very thorough knowledge of directions and the layout of the city Andy plenty of suggestions for restaurants and activities (all of which were fantastic). In fact the real value of this hotel is the staff and the service. I have never felt so relaxednl and at-home in a hotel before. The staff is always ready to help but never pushy or bothersome. It feels more like staying at a friend's house than a hotel. We stayed here in early November, 2017, and on our second day, Penang received the disastrous impact of a hurricane that passed farther north through Vietnam, and caused terrible floods, fallen trees and power lines and disrupted flights as it rained for nearly 10 straight hours that day, including several inches of floodwater in the hotel itself. Despite this, when Wen woke up the next morning, the only sign that anything at all hand happened was that the complimentary breakfast was 20-30 minutes late to begin, as the staff was up all through the night moving furniture, mopping, and cleaning. And through all of this they dealt with all of the guests calmly and with smiles. I cannot recommend this place enough. The only danger is that you may be tempted to stay in your wonderfully comfortable room the entire time and miss out on the wonderful sightseeing now Penang has to offer.

An amazing experience!
Central boutique hotel that is close to many famous eateries and also the bus station. Top-notch staff and accommodation. Great breakfast options. Only one minus I can think of is the Wifi here is rather unstable. The signal could go off and on at times.

A Joy to stay. Can't wait to return
A wonderfully restored old colonial building within UNESCO Heritage Site. Walking distance to most tourist destinations. A little traffic noise during the day but very quiet overnight. The professionalism of overall service is exceptional. Il Bàcaro Restaurant which adjoins the hotel serves first class Italian food and breakfast is to die for !
