Your Travel Guide to Sepang as a Malaysian Traveler

How to Get to Sepang from Kuala Lumpur and Major Malaysian Cities

For travelers coming from Kuala Lumpur or other major Malaysian cities, reaching Sepang offers several convenient options. Flying into Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is the quickest if you're arriving from further afield. From KLIA, Empress Hotel Sepang is easily accessible. You can book flight tickets to KLIA through Traveloka, often finding competitive MYR fares depending on the season and airline.

Alternatively, bus services provide a more economical way to travel. Numerous bus companies operate routes from major cities like Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Penang to the Sepang area or nearby towns like Nilai. Bus fares are generally budget-friendly, ranging from MYR 20 to MYR 60 depending on the distance. From the bus terminal, you can then take a short taxi or Grab ride to your hotel.

Driving is another popular choice for Malaysians. Sepang is well-connected by a network of highways, including the North-South Expressway and the Elite Highway. Toll charges can vary, but for a trip from Kuala Lumpur, expect to pay around MYR 5-10 in tolls. The journey typically takes about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic conditions, offering flexibility and the convenience of having your own transport.

Best Time to Visit Sepang

Sepang experiences a tropical rainforest climate, characterized by high temperatures and humidity year-round. The best time to visit Sepang for most Malaysian travelers is generally during the drier months, which typically fall between December and February, and again from June to August. During these periods, you can expect less rainfall, making outdoor activities and exploring the area more enjoyable.

However, it's important to note that rain showers can occur at any time of the year, often in the form of short, intense afternoon thunderstorms. The monsoon seasons, typically from March to May and September to November, can bring heavier rainfall. While this might deter some outdoor plans, it can also mean fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, offering a different kind of appeal for those seeking a quieter visit.

Food and Dining Near Sepang — What Malaysian Travelers Must Try

No trip to Malaysia is complete without indulging in its iconic dishes, and Sepang offers plenty of opportunities to do so. Nasi Lemak, the national dish, is a fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf, served with spicy sambal, anchovies, peanuts, and a hard-boiled egg. You can find excellent versions at local restaurants and roadside stalls throughout Sepang.

Char Kway Teow is another must-try, a stir-fried flat rice noodle dish with prawns, cockles, bean sprouts, and chives, often cooked over high heat for a smoky 'wok hei' flavor. For a lighter yet satisfying option, Roti Canai, a flaky flatbread served with dhal or curry, is a breakfast and supper favorite. Many Indian-Muslim eateries (Mamak stalls) serve this dish.

Laksa, a spicy noodle soup, comes in various regional styles, each with its unique broth and toppings. Whether you prefer the fish-based Assam Laksa or the coconut-milk-based Curry Laksa, Sepang's eateries are likely to have a local rendition. Don't forget to sample Satay, marinated and grilled skewers of chicken or beef, served with a rich peanut sauce, cucumber, and onions.

When seeking out these culinary delights, remember that most local eateries in Sepang are Halal-certified or are run by Muslim proprietors, making them suitable for Muslim travelers. Exploring the local food scene is an integral part of the Malaysian travel experience, and Sepang provides ample opportunities to savor these authentic flavors.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Sepang

Malaysia is a multicultural country, and Sepang reflects this with its diverse population. When visiting religious sites like mosques or temples, it's customary to dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees. Malaysians are generally friendly and welcoming, and a polite greeting like "Selamat Pagi" (Good Morning) or "Terima Kasih" (Thank You) is always appreciated.

Safety in Sepang is generally good, but like any travel destination, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep valuables secure, especially in crowded areas or on public transport. For emergencies, the national emergency number is 999, which connects you to police, ambulance, and fire services. It's also a good idea to have the contact details for your hotel readily available.

To enhance your travel experience, several apps are highly recommended for Malaysian travelers. Grab is essential for ride-hailing and food delivery services across the country. For managing payments and digital transactions, the Touch 'n Go eWallet app is widely used. MySejahtera, the government's contact tracing app, may still be useful for checking into certain venues or for health advisories.

Familiarizing yourself with these cultural nuances and practical tools will help you navigate Sepang with greater ease and confidence. Whether you're using apps to book transport or understanding local customs, being prepared ensures a smoother and more enjoyable trip.

We booked for one deluxe bedroom and all we got was twin-bed room, we complaint to receptionist and she was underestimating this problem by saying no room left and didn't say sorry at all! The room looks creepy and dirty, no bin at all, old tv and very limited channels (around 5-8 only). I would not recommend people to come here by any reason. For your godness sake, there are lots of hotel around here beside empress which worth your money.

The hotel is pretty good, just don't take the morning flight because if you don't use grab, you can't go to the airport, you can't even take cash. Luckily yesterday was assisted by one of the male employees there. Note that there is one employee whose blond hair is not communicative, and does not want to help at all, I forget the name. What a clear blonde hair guy. Do not care at all at guests. Please reprimand or repair.

The hotel is indeed good, but the atmosphere in the hallway going to the room is dimly lit so it makes it a bit spooky and in the room also I can't sleep because there is an impression. Plus the hotel is very quiet as it is rarely visited by people. Not recommended to come here.

Front desk not so welcoming. Connecting rooms are acceptable, however our non-smoking room filled with cigarette smell. Poor breakfast menu, most trays are empty, almost nothing to eat. Food are tasteless & coffee is depressing. Just a place to sleep, that's all.

I chose to stay here because it was close to the Sepang circuit. My family and I feel very comfortable. Rooms are spacious enough. Complete facilities, hopefully next year can stay at this hotel again.

Security very very poor. The access card giving me a lot of problems. Either can't lock or can't open the door since I check in. Already complaint but the problem keep arising until now.🤯😤. Cleanliness very poor. Bedsheet didn't change since I check in & got dirt mark on it.😠😡

The hotel is indeed good, but the atmosphere in the hallway going to the room is dimly lit so it makes it a bit spooky and in the room also I can't sleep because there is an impression. Plus the hotel is very quiet as it is rarely visited by people. Not recommended to come here.

The area is quite extensive, not too far to go to the airport. This is my second stay at this hotel. Thank you Traveloka.

Suitable for transit, there is a shuttle car to KLIA / KLIA2 with friendly rates per passenger, spacious rooms, soft mattresses, hotel buildings seem to be old so it looks rather dim, other facilities are okay, staff are friendly and can welcome drinks.

Stay was fine. AC serious problem. Can't feel the gas and you can't control the fan speed at all. You will have bit problem during sleeping. Given 10th floors. Basement parking provided but no attached elevator at direct lift. Overall was okay but not worthy to invest.

Air conditioning for all central rooms, so it cannot regulate its own temperature, and it is not cold at all, even when we leave at dawn the lobby does not turn on the air conditioner.
