Budget Hotel for the Practical Traveler
I've been here several times, due to last minute flight changes, and never made reservations. This is one of the more cheaper hotels, so it does a pretty good job for what it's worth. All I needed was a place to sleep and store my belongings. My room had a delightfully noisy AC and a turn of the century T.V. It does get loud, since the hotel is near an intersection and several bars. I liked the cafe next door, where I would get my coffee and soup - the owner is really sweet. If you arrive late to the hotel, they sometimes lock the door, so all you have to do is knock or ring the bell - most hotels in Kuching lock the front door after hours. They offer wifi, but it was really slow. So, if you plan to spend most of your time away from the hotel, it's a safe place to stay and store your baggage that's near a lot of good restaurants, bars and cafes. It's also next to a cat monument, which I thought was neat. Although the accommodations are average, I'm giving Kapit a "Very Good" rating, because they are reliable and the staff are helpful.

Very, Very basic and loud
We arrived in Kuching after a day of traveling to find out that Kapit did not have our reservation. They had one room left with twin beds. Disapointed, we accepted the room as it had already been paid for and didnt want to deal with the headache of trying to get a refund and wander around Kuching after dark looking for another place. The price here is cheap but you get what you pay for. The room is backpacker basic and very loud being on a busy intersection. We slept in our pods as it didnt seem very clean. cob webs, hair, dirt on the floor and the bathroom needs some love. mold, cracks and sink barely holding on. There was a hole in the wall in the bathroom that i feared was a welcome for any critters that could fit:( We ended up moving to Johns Place for a dozen Ringit ($3) more, it was an impressive upgrade!

Old Hostel, nice play to sleep.
Slept there for 2 nights. Aircond is so cold! Well, old style room, I was shocked there was a cockroach too! Old style of bathroom, just look at the toilet tiles. If you lived in 80's and 90's probably you know what I mean. No breakfast included, there is a pantry for you to make hot drinks. Price from Rm50 per night, and location is strategic as it is in the centre of Kuching, near Waterfront.

Great value for money
My boyfriend and I stayed at Kapit Hotel in Kuching last night (august 2015). We just came out of a nice hotel and were expecting this cheaper accommodation to be of similar standard to other budget accommodations we've used around SEA. We were pleasantly surprised to find a room with plenty of space (enough for 3-4 people), A/C, hot shower and a few nice touches. We paid 70 MYR for a room at late notice and know they even do rooms as cheap as 50 MYR. Besides the nice room, the staff were really friendly, helpful and trustworthy. They were more than happy to keep our bags safe while we went out for the day after we'd check out. Wifi is avaiable in the lobbies on the different floors, not in the rooms though unless you're close to the lobby. Location is good. There is a really good café/restaurant just over the road called The Coconut Milk Café, which was cheap and served amazing food with great service (especially the beef rendang). There are some cheapish bars within 30 seconds walk and food markets local too.
