Overview of Redang Island Resort

Nestled along the pristine shores of Teluk Siang on Redang Island,

Redang Island Resort

offers a genuine tropical island escape off the coast of Terengganu, Peninsular Malaysia. This welcoming 3-star resort features 40 well-appointed rooms and delivers the kind of laid-back beach holiday that has made Redang one of Southeast Asia's most beloved marine destinations. Whether you are a snorkelling enthusiast eager to explore vibrant coral reefs, a couple seeking a romantic island retreat, or a family looking for an affordable seaside getaway, the resort provides a comfortable base from which to enjoy everything this stunning island has to offer.

What sets Redang Island Resort apart is its commitment to combining island simplicity with genuine comfort. Guests enjoy air-conditioned rooms, a refreshing swimming pool, an on-site restaurant serving local and international fare, and — perhaps most notably — a dedicated

diving centre

that caters to both beginners and certified divers. The resort's location at Teluk Siang places it along one of Redang's quieter stretches of coastline, offering a more peaceful atmosphere compared to the busier beaches on the island. With a 24-hour front desk ready to assist at any time, the resort ensures that travellers feel well looked after from the moment they arrive until the day they reluctantly depart.

Redang Island itself sits within the

Redang Marine Park

, a protected area renowned for its crystal-clear waters, thriving coral gardens, and rich marine biodiversity. Staying at Redang Island Resort means you are just steps away from some of the best snorkelling and diving sites in Malaysia, where encounters with sea turtles, clownfish, and colourful reef fish are common. The island's powdery white sand beaches and turquoise lagoons create a picture-perfect setting that makes this resort a favourite among nature lovers and beach holiday seekers alike.

Room Types at Redang Island Resort

Redang Island Resort offers three distinct room categories across its 40 rooms, each designed to provide a restful retreat after a day of island exploration. All rooms feature

air conditioning

, ensuring cool comfort even during the warmest tropical afternoons, along with WiFi connectivity to help guests stay in touch with loved ones or share their holiday snaps. Check-in time is at

14:00

, and check-out is at

12:00

, giving guests a leisurely morning to enjoy one final swim or breakfast before departing.

Standard Room

The

Standard Room

at Redang Island Resort is an excellent choice for budget-conscious travellers and solo adventurers who want comfortable accommodation without unnecessary frills. These cosy rooms come fully air-conditioned and are furnished with essential amenities including a private bathroom with hot and cold shower facilities, clean towels, and basic toiletries. The rooms are thoughtfully laid out to make the most of the available space, with a comfortable bed dressed in fresh linens, a writing desk, and adequate storage for luggage and personal belongings. WiFi access is available, allowing guests to browse the web or plan the next day's diving excursion from the comfort of their room. The Standard Room is ideal for travellers who intend to spend most of their time outdoors enjoying the island's natural beauty and simply need a clean, reliable space to rest and recharge.

Deluxe Room

For guests seeking a step up in comfort and space, the

Deluxe Room

offers a more spacious layout with enhanced furnishings and additional amenities. These rooms feature a larger sleeping area with premium bedding, creating a noticeably more relaxed atmosphere. The private bathroom in the Deluxe Room is typically more generously proportioned, with improved fixtures and a wider selection of complimentary toiletries. Air conditioning, WiFi, and daily housekeeping are all included as standard. The Deluxe Room often appeals to couples and small families who appreciate having a bit more room to spread out, particularly after returning from a full day of snorkelling, island hopping, or diving at the resort's dive centre. Additional touches such as enhanced lighting, a more expansive wardrobe area, and upgraded soft furnishings make the Deluxe Room a popular choice for guests who want a balance of comfort and value during their Redang holiday.

Sea View Room

The

Sea View Room

is the crown jewel of Redang Island Resort's accommodation offerings, and for good reason. These rooms provide guests with the most coveted feature on any island holiday —

direct views of the turquoise waters

surrounding Redang Island. Waking up to the sight of the Terengganu coastline shimmering under the morning sun or watching the sky transform into brilliant shades of orange and pink at sunset from your own room is an experience that elevates an already memorable trip into something truly special. The Sea View Room comes with all the amenities of the Deluxe Room, including full air conditioning, WiFi, comfortable bedding, and a well-equipped private bathroom, but adds the irreplaceable luxury of an ocean panorama. These rooms are highly sought after and tend to book up quickly during peak season, making early reservation strongly advisable for anyone who has their heart set on a sea-facing stay.

Facilities and Amenities

Despite its intimate size of just 40 rooms, Redang Island Resort packs a commendable range of facilities and amenities that ensure guests have everything they need for an enjoyable island stay. The resort's

swimming pool

is a welcome feature, offering a freshwater alternative for guests who fancy a dip without venturing into the sea. The pool area provides a pleasant spot to lounge with a book, soak up the tropical sun, or simply unwind after an active morning of diving or snorkelling. Sun loungers are typically available poolside for guests to use at their leisure.

The resort's

diving centre

is one of its standout facilities and a major draw for marine enthusiasts. Staffed by experienced dive professionals, the centre offers everything from introductory discover scuba diving courses for complete beginners to guided dive trips for certified divers looking to explore Redang's famous underwater sites. Equipment rental is available, so guests do not necessarily need to bring their own gear. The diving centre can also arrange snorkelling trips to the best reef spots around the island, making it a one-stop resource for all underwater adventures.

WiFi

is provided throughout the resort, though guests should bear in mind that internet connectivity on a remote island may not match the speeds found in mainland cities. It is generally sufficient for messaging, social media, and light browsing. The

24-hour front desk

is a reassuring presence, ensuring that assistance is available at any time of day or night — whether guests need help arranging transport, have questions about island activities, or require any other support during their stay. Air conditioning is fitted in all guest rooms, a genuine necessity given the tropical heat, and the resort maintains its public areas to a clean and welcoming standard throughout the day.

Location and Getting There

Redang Island Resort is located at

Teluk Siang, Redang Island, 21090 Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu

. Reaching this beautiful island paradise involves a journey that is very much part of the adventure. The most common route for travellers begins with a flight into

Sultan Mahmud Airport (TGG)

in Kuala Terengganu, which receives regular domestic flights from Kuala Lumpur. From the airport, guests travel to one of the jetty points — typically

Shahbandar Jetty

or

Merang Jetty

— for the boat transfer to Redang Island. The boat ride takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour depending on sea conditions and the specific jetty used, and the crossing offers gorgeous views of the South China Sea.

Travellers coming from Kuala Lumpur by road can also drive or take a bus to Kuala Terengganu, a journey of approximately six to seven hours, before making their way to the jetty. Many resort packages include return boat transfers as part of the booking, so it is worth checking with the resort or your booking platform for inclusive transfer options. The jetty transfer to Redang Island typically operates during daylight hours, so guests should plan their arrival into Kuala Terengganu accordingly to avoid missing the last boat of the day.

Once on Redang Island, the resort is situated within comfortable reach of several popular

snorkelling and diving sites

, including the renowned Marine Park Centre and various coral-rich bays around the island. The nearby beaches of Teluk Kalong and Pasir Panjang are also accessible for those who wish to explore more of the island's coastline. Redang Island is relatively compact, and getting around is typically done on foot or by arranging short boat transfers through the resort's front desk.

Dining at Redang Island Resort

Redang Island Resort features an

on-site restaurant

that serves as the primary dining venue for guests throughout their stay. Given the island's remote location, the resort's restaurant plays a particularly important role, and it rises to the occasion with a menu that typically spans both

local Malaysian cuisine and international dishes

. Guests can expect to enjoy freshly prepared meals featuring local seafood, traditional Malay favourites such as nasi goreng, rendang, and sambal-based dishes, as well as Western options to cater to a variety of palates.

Many guests at Redang Island Resort opt for

full-board or half-board meal packages

, which are commonly offered as part of island resort bookings in this region. These packages typically include breakfast, lunch, and dinner served at set times in the resort's restaurant, ensuring that guests are well-fed throughout the day without needing to worry about sourcing meals on a remote island. Breakfast usually features a spread of local and continental options to fuel guests ahead of a day of island activities, while lunch and dinner offer more substantial fare.

It is worth noting that dining options on Redang Island outside of resort restaurants are relatively limited compared to mainland destinations. While a handful of small eateries and beach bars may operate along the more popular stretches of beach during peak season, the most convenient and reliable dining experience will be at the resort itself. Guests with specific dietary requirements or food allergies are encouraged to communicate these to the resort in advance so that the kitchen team can make appropriate arrangements. Bringing some personal snacks for between-meal nibbles is a practical tip that many seasoned Redang visitors recommend.

Why Stay at Redang Island Resort

Direct access to world-class marine life

is perhaps the single most compelling reason to choose Redang Island Resort. The resort's location within the Redang Marine Park means that extraordinary snorkelling and diving experiences are literally on your doorstep. The house reef and nearby dive sites are teeming with marine biodiversity, from graceful sea turtles and reef sharks to dazzling schools of tropical fish weaving through healthy coral formations. Few destinations in Malaysia offer this calibre of underwater encounter at such close proximity to your accommodation.

An on-site diving centre with professional guidance

makes the resort particularly attractive for guests who want to try diving for the first time or advance their existing skills. Having qualified dive instructors based right at the resort removes the hassle of arranging external operators and means that guests can maximise their time in the water with minimal logistical fuss. The convenience of walking from your room to the dive centre and being underwater within minutes is a luxury that dedicated dive resorts deliver exceptionally well.

Peaceful island atmosphere away from the crowds

is another strong selling point. Teluk Siang offers a calmer, less commercialised setting compared to some of Redang's busier beach areas. For travellers who value tranquillity and the sound of waves over bustling nightlife and crowded sand, this resort's location delivers exactly that. The intimate scale of just 40 rooms further ensures that the resort never feels overcrowded, preserving a sense of exclusivity and personal space.

Affordable 3-star comfort without compromise

rounds out the appeal. Redang Island Resort demonstrates that a memorable island holiday does not require a five-star price tag. With air-conditioned rooms, a swimming pool, reliable dining, and professional dive facilities, the resort covers all the essentials at a price point that represents genuine value — particularly when booked through Traveloka, where competitive rates and promotional offers can make the trip even more accessible.

Tips for Booking Redang Island Resort

Book during the island's operating season.

Redang Island and its resorts, including Redang Island Resort, are typically open from

March through to October

each year. The island closes during the northeast monsoon season from November to February when rough seas make boat transfers unsafe and the weather is unsuitable for beach and diving activities. Planning your visit within the operating window is essential, and booking well in advance for the peak months of June, July, and August is highly recommended, as rooms — particularly the Sea View category — fill up quickly.

Consider a package deal for better value.

Many bookings for Redang Island Resort come as part of inclusive packages that bundle accommodation with return boat transfers, meals, and sometimes snorkelling or diving trips. These packages often represent significantly better value than booking each component separately. When searching on Traveloka, look out for package options and compare them against room-only rates to determine the best deal for your travel dates and group size.

Request a Sea View Room early.

If waking up to ocean views is important to you, make your reservation as far in advance as possible and specifically request the Sea View Room category. Given the limited number of these rooms across the resort's total of 40, they are among the first to sell out during popular travel periods. Early booking not only secures your preferred room type but may also unlock better rates.

Pack appropriately for island life.

While this is not strictly a booking tip, experienced Redang travellers consistently advise packing reef-safe sunscreen, a good-quality snorkel mask if you have one, insect repellent, and any personal medications you may need. Shops on the island are extremely limited, and prices for basic items can be higher than on the mainland. Arriving well-prepared ensures a smoother and more enjoyable stay.

Check Traveloka for seasonal promotions.

Rates at Redang Island Resort can vary considerably depending on the time of year, day of the week, and ongoing promotions. Booking through Traveloka gives you access to exclusive member deals, flash sales, and coupon discounts that can reduce the overall cost of your island getaway. Enabling price alerts or checking the app regularly in the weeks leading up to your planned travel dates is a smart strategy for securing the best possible rate on your Redang holiday.

The property is very close to Jetty and they have a van that will drop and pick up from the jetty to hotel. This is the only good part about the property. The property itself is very old and the rooms are sub standard. We had 2 rooms and one of the room AC did not work properly but luckily the ceiling fan was enough for our stay. We had a connecting door between the two rooms and so the AC in other room helped to some extent. The other issue is that the property is very far from the beach. The beach is near the Taaras resort property which is about 4.5 km away and can only be reached if you rent a scooter. The breakfast, as others have mentioned is very bad. We even tried the ala carte lunch but we were very disappointed with the taste and food quality. For the two days we stayed, we actually ate at another resort hotel which was called De rimba resort and they had excellent food. There was another small bakery close to our property called Pink restaurant or cafe I think which is at the entrance of the Jetty and their carrot cake is highly recommended. The property itself is very clean and quiet and the hotel staff was very nice and welcoming. We also had a massage booked but the massage too was just ok for the price. I have had far better massage treatments. Overall, it was an ok stay, nothing that I would remember or recommend if I ever visit Redang island.

We had a good stay here, the rooms are outdated and in need of a little TLC but that would probably reflect in the price. The resort is value for money as it is. Staff are fantastic and friendly. The pool is lovely and we really enjoyed the boat trips.

I had a good stay here- it was comfortable, the staff were helpful and friendly, the hotel was good and offered fun excursions and cheap massages. The shop onsite is handy for water and snacks. There is no cash machine on the island so make sure you bring enough. You are limited to taxis (60RM return journey anywhere) and boats (55RM) to leave the hotel. There were a few small things could have made it GREAT: - a welcome message on arrival to explain timings of meals, what’s available in the hotel and outside it (it took me a couple of days to figure everything out & I was told the wrong information about meal times twice) - better WiFi! The connection was terrible, only worked around 10% of the time, and only when in reception (it didn’t work at all in my room) - if housekeeping replaced dirty towels, used cups, coffee etc as standard (I had to make a direct request for this when it didn’t happen on the second day) - cushions on the sun loungers by the pool (it is uncomfortable laying on hard plastic) - better vigilance at keeping buffet lids closed to avoid flies on the food at breakfast - healthy / lighter options at breakfast (aside from eggs, it was all carbs; bread, noodles, rice, potato, cereal) - would hugely benefit from filtered water fountains around the hotel, as the only water refill was hidden away in the restaurant and staff had to fill up my water bottle, otherwise only plastic water bottles available which is bad for the environment

We came on a holiday retreat with plans of snorkeling on Saturday. Very polite and friendly staff and really nice and spacious room. Unfortunately I have to take one star off as we fell ill after having dinner at the hotel restaurant and we were room bound for a day of our three day stay. We did manage to go snorkeling on Sunday but still fell frail after the days we had. Snorkeling trip and tortoise view is highly recommended. Only advice, avoid dinner here. Breakfast is ok and the shop sells instant noodles and crisps. Next time we'll come here again and bring some more food with us

Good, quiet low-end resort, away from other resorts. Needs a refresh. Limited menu, has selection of day trips. Small private beach with good snorkeling 50m out at med/high tide. Very limited roads on Redang mean you can only scooter to Turtle Bay (where they hand feed turtles for the tourists). Had a great local bbq squid & tuna over a 44gal drum there.

I understand the negative reviews - the property needs maintenance and upkeep and the bed was like concrete. But, we asked for extra duvets to use as cushioning and staff happy to provide. The toilet continued running after flushing, the shower squirting water (but was hot), and balcony chair nearly collapsed. But, maintenance staff so friendly and happy to fix - all issues fixed in one request. The local staff happy we tried to speak limited Malay, were friendly and smiled a lot. Breakfast not as extensive as other hotels, but enough to feel full each morning. Location is away from Long Beach, so I very quiet. If you want buzz, stay at Long Beach. We wanted relaxation and have peaceful quietness, so we were happy. The pool was dirty and brown due to an issue with Government Water provided to resort. However, staff kept trying to empty & refill each day - pool swimmable by third day! If you correctly set your expectations, you will be okay. It’s not a 5 star resort. If you have any issues, just ask staff a friendly question and they will do their best to accommodate. Wana at reception was excellent! Great English speaking and found us a reasonable priced transfer (RM150pp) to Perhentian Island for our next stay saving much time. Needs a bit of work, but a reasonable stay for price.

Good sea view resort, room was well-lit with plenty of lights and clean. Food was sufficient and quality was adequate for breakfast and dinner. We tried order food from the kitchen though it took a while for the staff to pick up and delivered to our room. We thought we would be starving from check-out back to the mainland, but thankfully the staff had prepared our breakfast to takeaway at the reception. Overall, we're enjoyed our stay.

It was quiet decent place but dining options are minimal . Breakfast offered is the routine menu and the dining hall is not quite clean . Taps & heater is not working in bathrooms and had to follow up with reception for room cleaning service.

I can only rate this properly on one aspect, which is the great upgrade we got as we were moved to Taraas resort because of technical issues… This just proves how much they care about their customers

Overall was good...If u choose to enjoy night life here, this is not the right place. Need to go to long beach to enjoy night life. But if u want comfort and just want to enjoy a calm and relaxing your mind, this would be the right place.
