What a charming hotel this is. The surrounding area is lovely and the hotel is kept clean and tidy. The rooms are extremely clean and well supplied with tea and coffee. The breakfast was super. I'd come again.

One of Sandakan's gems
The Sabah hotel is a welcome treat after a river cruise or a jungle trek. It offers all the modern conveniences of western hotels set in lush tropics. It is one of the oldest hotels in Sandakan that has been renovated over the years. Bathroom and shower are well appointed. This hotel is reminiscent of a time gone by. At one time it was the best hotel in town. Very charming with a pool located on the 1st floor beside the cafe. They host a breakfast buffet with made to order eggs. There is also a gym although the humidity has not been kind to the weight machines. The Ming restaurant serving Chinese cuisine is excellent. Try the mango prawns and broccoli and cauliflower with cheese! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Needs a refurbishment
I have to agree with another reviewer on this site, the staff are friendly, professional and courteous, the building however leaves a lot to be desired. On the first night my partner opted for the fried chicken meal as we arrived late after driving from Kota Kinabalu, the chicken was not cooked all the way through and she ended up being unwell for the next couple of days as far as food and toilet distance was concerned. Speaking of which, the toiled seemed to overfill itself with water when flushed, nearly to the rim, which was a bit uncomfortable when being seated, and the shower definitely needs updating. The lift failed to work when we got in one day, thankfully the staff appeared within 5-10 minutes and released us, the pool is not clean, and has broken tiles, the concierge tried to overcharge us for a taxi ride to the Orangutan sanctuary, it was only 40 ringitt but if he did that to every guest he’d be on to a sure winner. We used a local guy who charged 80 instead of the quoted 120!! The Tay wasn’t a total disaster, the weather could have been better but hey.... I would definitely go back, probably in a couple of years when I’m planning another trip to Borneo, but I hope they have had a makeover by then.

Good mid range hotel - Ideal Sandakan base
Good to average hotel overall - Fair value for money with more than adequate comfort and amenities. Hotel appeared slightly dated and lack-lustre, (by Western standards), but good for mid range Borneo accommodation. Ideal base to explore Sandakan, well situated for quiet location accessible to centre and nearby attractions. Spacious, clean rooms, comfy bed and pleasant pool area were better than expected. Slightly let down by minor points; no a/c in gym, uninspiring breakfast, a/c in room circulating other guests' cigarette smoke through system. Generally I would recommend this hotel as a reasonably priced base for a short stay. We stayed 5 nights, but in hindsight 3 / 4 in Sandakan would have been enough.

Resort Surrounded by Rain Forest
A nice resort hotel to stay in . The room is spacious although the room for a bit outdated . Cons : value for money , Resort with gym , Swimming pool , sauna Abd the guest room has bath tub . Pro: need to take a car to city ( but not far away )
