I’ve stayed at The Barat Tioman twice this year. I love the room, the amenities, the cleanliness and of course the friendly and helpful staff. Apart from having reasonable priced accommodations, The Barat Tioman also provides diving lessons and snorkelling services. The beach is always clean and they also provide additional beach activities for adults and children. Yes ! A comfortable place for kids too ! Did i mention they have waddling pool and swimming pool? A rooftop bar ,but unfortunately un operational during Civid-19. For first timers to Tioman , please be ensure that the telco services isn’t stable or strong enough - so patience is a virtue .. and it is an island life after all 😅 I would definitely recommend it to friends and family! I see you soon !

Overview of The Barat Tioman

Nestled along the pristine eastern shoreline of Tioman Island,

The Barat Tioman

is a distinguished 4-star resort that offers an idyllic retreat in one of Malaysia's most treasured island destinations. Located on the secluded Juara Beach in Pahang, this boutique property features 56 thoughtfully appointed rooms and provides guests with direct access to a sweeping stretch of white sand framed by lush tropical rainforest and the crystal-clear waters of the South China Sea. For travellers seeking an authentic island escape that balances comfort with natural beauty, The Barat Tioman stands as one of Juara's most compelling accommodation choices.

What sets The Barat Tioman apart from many island resorts is its location on the quieter eastern coast of Pulau Tioman. While the western side of the island draws larger crowds, Juara retains a tranquil, unhurried atmosphere that appeals to couples, nature enthusiasts, and anyone looking to disconnect from the pace of city life. The resort embraces this sense of seclusion while ensuring guests enjoy modern comforts, including an inviting outdoor swimming pool, complimentary WiFi throughout the property, an on-site restaurant, and a professionally run dive centre. Whether you spend your days exploring vibrant coral reefs, paddling a kayak across calm turquoise bays, or simply lounging by the pool with a good book, The Barat Tioman delivers a well-rounded island holiday experience.

Guests consistently appreciate the warm hospitality that defines a stay at this resort. The staff are known for their attentive yet unobtrusive service, creating an environment where visitors feel genuinely welcomed. With check-in from

14:00

and check-out at

12:00

, the schedule is designed to give travellers ample time to enjoy their final morning on the island before departure. From the moment you arrive at Juara Beach and catch your first glimpse of the resort's setting against a backdrop of jungle-clad hills, it becomes clear that The Barat Tioman is a property that understands the art of tropical relaxation.

Room Types at The Barat Tioman

The Barat Tioman offers three distinct room categories across its 56-room inventory, each designed to cater to different preferences and travel styles. All rooms feature air conditioning, complimentary WiFi, and en-suite bathrooms, ensuring a comfortable stay regardless of the category you choose. The resort's accommodation blends contemporary island design with natural materials, creating interiors that feel both polished and in harmony with the surrounding environment.

Superior Room

The

Superior Room

serves as the resort's well-appointed entry-level accommodation and is ideal for solo travellers or couples seeking a comfortable base from which to explore Tioman Island. These rooms feature tasteful décor with clean lines and warm tones that reflect the island's tropical character. Each Superior Room comes equipped with a queen or twin bed configuration, individually controlled air conditioning, a flat-screen television, a minibar, and a private bathroom with hot and cold shower facilities. Complimentary bottled water and tea and coffee-making provisions are standard inclusions. The rooms also benefit from ample wardrobe space and a writing desk, making them practical for guests who may wish to spend quieter moments indoors. Despite being the most accessible room category in terms of price, the Superior Room delivers a standard of finish and comfort that sits well above what many travellers expect from island accommodation.

Deluxe Room

For guests who desire additional space and enhanced views, the

Deluxe Room

represents a significant step up. These larger rooms typically offer views of the resort's tropical gardens or the shimmering South China Sea, providing a stunning visual backdrop to your stay. Deluxe Rooms feature a king-sized or twin bed arrangement, a more generous floor plan that accommodates a comfortable seating area, and upgraded bathroom amenities. The décor carries a refined island aesthetic, with wooden accents and soft furnishings that invite relaxation. Guests in the Deluxe category can expect enhanced in-room provisions, including premium toiletries, a well-stocked minibar, and dedicated luggage storage. These rooms are particularly well suited for couples celebrating special occasions or travellers who simply prefer more breathing room during their holiday. The Deluxe Room strikes an excellent balance between indulgent comfort and genuine value, making it a popular choice amongst repeat visitors to The Barat Tioman.

Suite

The

Suite

at The Barat Tioman represents the pinnacle of the resort's accommodation offering. Significantly more spacious than the other room categories, the Suite features a separate living area and a generously proportioned bedroom furnished with a premium king-sized bed dressed in high-thread-count linens. The living space includes a comfortable sofa, a dining area, and ample room for unwinding after a day of island adventures. Bathrooms in the Suite category are notably larger, often featuring both a rain shower and a bathtub, along with luxury bath amenities. Guests can also expect thoughtful touches such as a welcome fruit platter, premium minibar selections, and the finest views the property has to offer. The Suite is an exceptional choice for honeymooners, families who appreciate extra space, or any traveller seeking the highest level of comfort available on Juara Beach. With only a limited number of Suites in the resort's inventory, early booking is recommended to secure this coveted room type.

Facilities and Amenities

The Barat Tioman provides a curated selection of facilities designed to complement the natural beauty of its island setting. The resort's

outdoor swimming pool

is a centrepiece of the property, offering a refreshing alternative to the ocean for guests who prefer a calm, controlled swimming environment. Surrounded by sun loungers, tropical planting, and attentive poolside service, the pool area is a popular gathering spot throughout the day and a particularly beautiful location during golden hour as the sun sets over Juara's forested ridgeline.

Complimentary WiFi

is available across all guest rooms and public areas of the resort, ensuring that visitors can stay connected when needed. While Tioman Island is very much a destination for switching off, the reliable internet access is a welcome convenience for those who wish to share their holiday moments or attend to essential communications. The resort also provides a dedicated

dive centre

, operated by experienced and certified instructors, offering everything from introductory discover scuba programmes for beginners to advanced dive excursions for certified divers. Tioman Island is renowned for its exceptional marine biodiversity, and the dive centre makes it easy for guests to explore world-class underwater sites just minutes from the resort's shore.

For those who prefer to stay above the surface,

kayaks

are available for guest use, providing a wonderful way to explore the coastline at your own pace. Paddling along Juara's sheltered bays, you may spot sea turtles, colourful reef fish in the shallows, and the occasional monitor lizard basking on the rocks. The resort's

beach access

is direct and seamless, with a well-maintained pathway leading from the property straight onto the soft sands of Juara Beach. Towels for beach and pool use are provided complimentary, a thoughtful detail that spares guests the trouble of packing their own.

Location and Getting There

The Barat Tioman is situated at

Juara Beach, Pulau Tioman, 26800 Pahang

, on the eastern coast of one of Malaysia's most beautiful islands. Tioman Island lies off the southeastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the South China Sea and is part of a protected marine park, which accounts for the exceptional clarity of its waters and the richness of its marine life.

Reaching Juara typically involves a two-stage journey. Most travellers first make their way to

Mersing Jetty

in Johor, which serves as the primary departure point for ferries to Tioman Island. The ferry ride from Mersing takes approximately two hours, with services running regularly during the island's operating season. An alternative route is via

Tanjung Gemok Jetty

near Rompin, Pahang, which also offers ferry connections to the island. From Kuala Lumpur, the drive to Mersing takes around four to five hours via the North-South Expressway and the east coast highway. Alternatively, travellers can fly into

Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport

in Kuantan and arrange onward road transfer to the jetty, though this route is less commonly used.

Upon arriving at the main Tioman jetty at

Tekek

or the

Genting Village

pier, guests heading to Juara can either take a scenic cross-island road transfer — a roughly 45-minute drive through the island's mountainous interior — or arrange a sea taxi directly to Juara Beach. The resort's team can assist with transfer arrangements in advance, and it is highly recommended to coordinate your arrival details prior to your trip to ensure a smooth journey. Once at Juara, you will find the village charmingly quiet, with a handful of local shops, a famous turtle conservation project, and some of the most unspoilt beach stretches in all of Peninsular Malaysia.

Dining at The Barat Tioman

The Barat Tioman features an

on-site restaurant

that serves as the culinary heart of the resort. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the restaurant offers a menu that draws on both Malaysian and international cuisines, catering to the diverse tastes of the resort's guests. Breakfast is a highlight of the dining experience, with a spread that typically includes freshly prepared local dishes such as nasi lemak, roti canai, and tropical fruit, alongside continental options like eggs, toast, pastries, and cereals. A hearty morning meal here sets you up perfectly for a day of diving, kayaking, or beachside relaxation.

For lunch and dinner, the restaurant serves a rotating selection of dishes that make good use of fresh seafood — a natural advantage of being located on a tropical island. Expect to find grilled fish, prawn dishes, and squid prepared in various styles, alongside chicken, vegetable, and rice-based options. The kitchen is generally accommodating of dietary requirements, and guests are encouraged to communicate any specific needs to the staff. Dining takes place in a relaxed, open-air or semi-alfresco setting that allows you to enjoy the evening breeze and the sounds of the ocean as you eat.

Beyond the resort, Juara village offers a small selection of

local eateries and beachfront cafés

where you can sample authentic Malay cooking at modest prices. These establishments serve dishes such as mee goreng, nasi goreng, and fresh coconut drinks, providing a lovely opportunity to experience the local food culture. Prices at village eateries are generally quite reasonable, with main dishes starting from approximately

RM 10 to RM 20

. Given Juara's relatively remote location, dining options outside the resort are limited in number, so many guests find it most convenient to enjoy the majority of their meals at the hotel's restaurant.

Why Stay at The Barat Tioman

Unrivalled beachfront location on Juara's eastern coast.

Unlike the busier western villages of Tioman, Juara offers a genuinely peaceful environment where the beach is never crowded and the pace of life moves to the rhythm of the tides. The Barat Tioman capitalises on this setting beautifully, giving guests the feeling of having discovered a private stretch of paradise. Waking up to the sound of waves and stepping directly onto soft white sand is an experience that defines the essence of a tropical holiday.

Exceptional marine activities and dive centre.

Tioman Island consistently ranks among Southeast Asia's top diving and snorkelling destinations, and The Barat Tioman's in-house dive centre makes it remarkably easy to access this underwater wonderland. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced diver seeking new sites, the professional team on hand ensures safe, memorable marine encounters. The resort's kayaking facilities add another dimension to water-based exploration, allowing guests to discover hidden coves and quiet inlets along the coastline.

A genuine escape from digital overload.

While complimentary WiFi keeps you connected when necessary, the true appeal of The Barat Tioman lies in its ability to help you switch off. Juara's eastern coast has a beautifully remote quality that encourages mindfulness, relaxation, and a return to simpler pleasures. Reading, swimming, watching sunrises over the ocean, and sharing unhurried meals with loved ones — these are the activities that fill your days here, and they are all the richer for the absence of urban distractions.

Well-balanced comfort at a 4-star standard.

The Barat Tioman delivers a level of quality and service that elevates your island experience without feeling overly manicured or impersonal. The 56-room scale of the property ensures that service remains personal and attentive, while the range of room types — from the practical Superior Room to the expansive Suite — means there is an option to match every budget and occasion. Facilities such as the outdoor pool, restaurant, and dive centre round out a stay that feels complete and considered.

Proximity to Juara Turtle Project.

Juara is home to a well-regarded sea turtle conservation initiative, and staying at The Barat Tioman places you within easy reach of this meaningful attraction. Visiting the turtle project offers an educational and genuinely moving experience, particularly for families with children, and contributes directly to the ongoing protection of endangered turtle species in Malaysian waters.

Tips for Booking The Barat Tioman

Book during the dry season for the best experience.

Tioman Island's peak season runs from approximately

March through October

, when the weather is at its finest and the seas are calm enough for ferry services and diving activities. Many resorts on the island, including The Barat Tioman, close during the monsoon months of November through February due to rough seas and heavy rainfall. To secure your preferred room type and dates, it is advisable to book well in advance, particularly for travel during school holidays and long weekends, when Malaysian island destinations see a significant surge in demand.

Request a sea-view room when booking your Deluxe Room or Suite.

While not all rooms offer direct ocean views, those that do provide a significantly enhanced experience. When making your reservation through Traveloka, note your preference for a sea-facing room in the special requests section. The resort will do its best to accommodate your preference subject to availability, and the difference in outlook can truly elevate your stay.

Coordinate your ferry and transfer arrangements in advance.

Getting to Juara requires a bit more planning than reaching the western villages of Tioman, as ferry services from Mersing typically dock at Tekek or Genting. Contacting the resort ahead of your arrival to arrange a cross-island transfer or sea taxi will save you time and uncertainty upon landing. Traveloka's booking platform often displays useful travel notes, so be sure to review these when confirming your reservation.

Consider mid-week stays for better value and quieter conditions.

Weekends and public holidays tend to attract the highest number of visitors to Tioman Island. If your schedule permits, arriving on a Monday or Tuesday can mean more availability across all room categories, a quieter pool and beach environment, and potentially more favourable rates. Checking Traveloka regularly for promotional offers and flash deals on The Barat Tioman is also a smart strategy, as discounted rates are frequently available during off-peak periods within the dry season.

Pack essentials and plan for limited shopping.

Juara is a small village with only basic convenience stores, so it is wise to bring any personal items, medications, or specialist supplies you may need for the duration of your stay. Reef-safe sunscreen is strongly recommended, both for your own protection and to help preserve Tioman's delicate marine ecosystem. If you plan to dive, enquire with the resort's dive centre about equipment availability and any certifications you should bring along, as this will help streamline your experience once you arrive.

We enjoyed our stay at the Barat, and thought it was good value for money. We stayed in a family room, it was clean and comfortable apart from a few ants running around. It was great to have a pool, but the pool needs a bit of maintenance as there are tiles coming off and the sides look like they could do with a clean. We used the sun loungers around the pool which are a bit hard but there seemed to be enough of them as the pool was never over busy. The restaurant had a good menu with a wide choice of meals to cater for most tastes including western options. We also walked out to a lovely local restaurant for several dinners, Almond Beach. Overall a nice place to spend a few days.

Decent property for the price. A bit far out but plenty of food nearby. Has a private beach too. Cleanliness can be improved and the rooms could use an upgrade (door requires locking from inside). Has a homely vibe and the service was generally good

The property is very nice and well kept. A bit more of training of counter and service personnel will make an experience to all visitors even better. The big issue is the village surrounding has way too much garbage, plastic bottles and others. Payment of fees for island conservation is paid, what is the money used for? A communal cleaning activity should be implemented.

Barat is a decent place out of the other options available nearby the Tekek jetty(though it’s a 30mins ride on a 4*4) my impressions- Room service- below par. Rooms were not attended to properly. No telephone service to call etc. Amnesties- it’s there but dysfunctional. Water supply gets cut off, wifi almost always doesn’t work. Food- Nothing to write home about, limited options, highly priced. After the first day we all preferred to go other places. Barat gets good reviews because the other nearby places are even worse.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay, things that we feel need for improvement, 1. TV was totally an ornament, not sure you placed a TV in the room which totally not functioning. 2. We can smell BBQ from the balcony, so all the time we didn't enjoy sitting at the balcony even though we booked a seafront room, speaking of which this seafront room has plenty of blocking views, so not really worth to take this room. 3. The sliding door of room 112, which we stayed had serious issue, we cannot open and close it, it made huge noise. 4, Hope that staffs can smile more and offer real service (it is very different from the YouTube video I watched), especially in servicing line, every effort counts.

Lovely beach front hotel and fantastic staff. The rooms needed a bit of tlc - basic things like the towels were threadbare, the grouting in the shower room needed a damn good scrub… there were insufficient sun beds on the beach and most had been uncomfortably mended with wooden slats. The restaurant at the hotel was good but there are not many easily accessible other places to eat that were reliably open. The restaurant adjacent to the hotel had random opening hours the next two nearest restaurants one was open evenings and one we only saw open once in a week. The vast majority of restaurants in the resort were closed / rarely open (end of June/early July 2023). We would advise arranging a taxi to get you to the resort from the hotel who were very helpful.

Overall all of us enjoyed the stay there. On the good: 1. Checking in process was quick 2. Check out process was easy 3. Very close to beach 4. Comfy beach chairs and hammock makes u wana stay at the beach the whole day The bad 1. Bed was squeaky (dont think thatz a major factor) 2. The family room we were given was built on quite straightforward construction - meaning when my wife walked around the room, my bed felt the movement - because the wooden flooring is unstable (told my kids not to jump abt in case the whole structure collapses - thatz close to nature type of construction i guess) 3. 2 of the beds had bed bugs and 2 of them cdnt sleep the 2 nights they were there - we only found that out after we checked out 4. The walls were so thin we cd literally hear the family's conversations beside our room 5. Pool was clean. However the staffs placed a huge mat by the pool such that 1/3 was inside fhe water. Was standing in the pool beside the mat until i realised it was a mat due to the foul odour. We're giving a 4 star to this property because we do like the location and layout, but we hope that at least the bed and pool shd be addressed properly. If addressed we will definitely be back.

Arrived and saw no welcome drink at the drink counter and no staff welcomed our arrival, you just come out of the taxi and straight to the reception. After you get the key, pick up own luggage and go up the hill top. There was no hand soap in the dispenser and no labeling for body soap and shampoo. Room was ok. View was nice. Kettle, water dispenser, glasses and mugs is available but not much you can do if you don't bring your own tea/coffee and own stirrer. In-house phone was not working but didn't have to use it anyway.

The food we found wasn’t as nice as some of the small restaurants we found in the village. The beds were very hard. We unfortunately are not hard bed people. The staff were all very pleasant and the resort location was the best with lots to do

Needs a lot of maintenance. Old resort . The snorkeling trip through the hotel was so great. Took us to coral island. So cool.

The frequent power trip was a major turn off and the wifi connectivity was almost non existent. The pricing for the room was a bit overpriced as well as there were many other cheaper options within that area. On the brightside the staff were friendly and accomdating.

It is quiet in general. The air compressor and motor bike make a lot of loud noises at 6:00 AM every morning. This disturbed my sleep.

The staff super helpful and always willing to help… but the hotel rooms were not clean….the towels were so bad. The dining area was not clean and the cats were wondering around. There were ants everywhere in the room and dining area.
