By Flight - Kota Kinabalu International Airport is the main gateway to Sabah and situated around 7 km from the city centre. Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and Malindo Air offer direct flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Kota Kinabalu International Airport and flights are available daily. Flights from Kuala Lumpur will take approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Airport buses and taxis are both available at the airport to take travellers into the city. Bus tickets into the city will cost RM5 and will leave every 1 hour whereas taxis will cost RM30 per trip. Ride-hailing services such as Grab is also available in Kota Kinabalu.

By Car - For those wanting to self-drive around Kota Kinabalu can easily find car rental services at the airport itself. However, car rentals in the city offer far more competitive prices. There are various types of cars on offer, so visitors can choose according to their budget. A standard sedan such as the Proton Saga FLX will cost around RM140-150 per day.
