Book this hotel for Kadayawan and it has the perfect location for the Indak Indak passed by in front of the hotel itself. Plus booked the hotel without breakfast and we were given free buffet breakfast as a Kadayawan promo which was greatly appreciated. Overall, it was a good stay for what we paid for.

More about hotels in Davao

Davao City — Mindanao's Crown Jewel

Davao City is a destination that surprises many first-time visitors. As the largest city in Mindanao and the third-largest in the Philippines by population, it defies stereotypes about southern Philippines with its remarkably clean streets, low crime rate, and warm hospitality. For Malaysian travellers looking for something off the beaten path, Davao City offers a compelling mix of urban conveniences and natural wonders. The city sits at the foot of Mount Apo, the Philippines' highest peak at 2,954 metres, and faces the Davao Gulf, giving it a dramatic geographical setting. Its multicultural heritage — blending indigenous Lumad traditions, Malay-Muslim influences, and Filipino-Chinese culture — creates a unique atmosphere that feels familiar yet excitingly different for Malaysian visitors.

Best Areas to Stay in Davao City

Davao City is sprawling, but most tourist-friendly accommodation is concentrated in a few key areas:

Downtown Davao is the city's commercial heart, home to Aldevinco Shopping Center, the Davao City Hall, and numerous restaurants. Hotels range from RM 40 to RM 200 per night. This is the most convenient area for first-time visitors, with easy access to transport and attractions.

Lanang is an upscale area along the highway, featuring SM Lanang Premier mall and several international-standard hotels. Accommodation here costs RM 100 to RM 400 per night. It is a good choice for travellers who prefer a modern, comfortable environment close to shopping and dining.

Samal Island Access Area — while technically a separate island, Samal (officially the Island Garden City of Samal) is just a short ferry ride from Davao City. Beach resorts on Samal cost RM 80 to RM 350 per night and offer a tropical island escape just minutes from the city.

Matina and Ecoland are commercial districts with malls, restaurants, and mid-range hotels from RM 60 to RM 200 per night. These areas are practical for travellers who want good amenities without the premium of staying in Lanang.

Looking for more Philippine destinations? Browse hotels in Prosperidad or Solano.

Davao City Hotel Prices

Davao City offers outstanding value for Malaysian travellers, with the Ringgit going further here than in Manila or Cebu:

Budget Hotels and Hostels: RM 40 – RM 100 per night. Simple but clean rooms in downtown or residential areas. Most include air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, and basic toiletries.

Mid-Range Hotels: RM 100 – RM 250 per night. Well-appointed rooms with swimming pools, fitness centres, restaurants, and complimentary breakfast. Many mid-range properties in Davao are newer and well-maintained.

Premium and Luxury Hotels: RM 250 – RM 600 per night. Top-tier properties with full-service amenities, event spaces, and stunning views of the gulf or mountains. The quality rivals four- and five-star hotels in KL at a fraction of the price.

Prices may increase during the Kadayawan Festival (August) and Christmas season. Traveloka promotions and early booking discounts can help you secure the best rates.

Best Time to Visit Davao City

Davao City lies outside the Philippine typhoon belt, making it one of the safest and most weather-stable destinations in the country:

Year-Round Destination: Unlike much of the Philippines, Davao City does not experience a pronounced wet or dry season. Rainfall is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year, with brief afternoon showers being the norm. Average temperatures range from 24°C to 33°C.

March – May: The warmest months, ideal for beach trips to Samal Island. Pack sunscreen and stay hydrated.

August (Kadayawan Festival): This vibrant cultural festival celebrates the city's bountiful harvest and indigenous heritage with parades, street dancing, floral floats, and food fairs. It is the best time to experience Davao's culture, though hotels fill up quickly.

December – January: Slightly cooler and a festive period in the Philippines. Davao's Christmas celebrations are elaborate and worth experiencing.

Getting to Davao City from Malaysia

Flights: Direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Davao's Francisco Bangoy International Airport are available on select airlines. Flight time is approximately 3 hours, with return fares ranging from RM 400 to RM 900. Alternatively, fly to Manila or Cebu and connect on a domestic flight to Davao (1.5–2 hours).

Airport to City: Davao's airport is only about 10–15 minutes from the city centre. Grab is available and costs RM 5–10 for most hotel destinations. Fixed-rate airport taxis and hotel shuttle services are also options.

Getting Around: Jeepneys are the most iconic local transport (RM 0.50–1 per ride), while Grab offers air-conditioned convenience. For trips to attractions like the Philippine Eagle Centre or Eden Nature Park, hiring a private vehicle (RM 50–100 for a half-day) is recommended.

Top Attractions and Things to Do

Philippine Eagle Centre is home to the critically endangered Philippine Eagle, the national bird and one of the largest eagles in the world. The centre is about 36 kilometres from the city and showcases conservation efforts. Entry costs approximately RM 8. It is a unique experience you will not find anywhere else in the world.

Samal Island (Island Garden City of Samal) is a 15-minute ferry ride from Davao City and offers white-sand beaches, coral reefs for snorkelling, and natural swimming pools. Day trips are popular and affordable, with beach resort entry fees starting from RM 5–15.

Mount Apo is the highest peak in the Philippines and a dream for trekking enthusiasts. The climb typically takes 2–3 days and requires a guide and permits (approximately RM 100–200). The summit offers breathtaking views above the clouds.

People's Park is a beautifully landscaped public park in the city centre, featuring sculptures of indigenous peoples, a man-made river, and durian-shaped domes. Entry is free and it is a pleasant spot for an afternoon walk.

Davao Crocodile Park houses one of the largest captive saltwater crocodiles in the Philippines, along with other wildlife. Entry costs approximately RM 10. It is an educational and entertaining attraction for families.

Eden Nature Park is a mountain resort about 20 kilometres from the city, offering activities like horseback riding, fishing, sky cycling, and nature walks. Day passes cost approximately RM 15–25.

For more off-the-beaten-path experiences, consider visiting Midsayap or Macrohon.

Davao City Food Guide

Davao is a food paradise, and Malaysian travellers — especially durian lovers — will feel right at home:

Durian: Davao is the durian capital of the Philippines. While Philippine durian varieties differ from Malaysian ones (smaller and milder), they are delicious and incredibly cheap at RM 3–10 per kilogram from street vendors and at Magsaysay Fruit Vendors strip.

Seafood: Fresh tuna, lapu-lapu (grouper), and grilled squid are staples. The Roxas Night Market offers an all-you-can-eat grilled seafood experience for about RM 5–10 per person, which is one of the best food deals in the Philippines.

Local Specialities: Try Kinilaw (Filipino ceviche), Sinuglaw (grilled pork belly with ceviche), and Paksiw (fish stewed in vinegar). A meal at a local eatery costs RM 5–15.

Halal Food: Davao City has a significant Muslim population, so halal food is more accessible here than in most Philippine cities. The Aldevinco area and several restaurants across the city serve halal dishes. Muslim-friendly options are widely available.

Night Market Dining: The Roxas Avenue Night Market is Davao's most famous food street, operating every evening with stalls selling grilled meats, seafood, and Filipino street food at incredibly low prices.

Davao City Booking Tips

Book During Kadayawan Early: If visiting during the Kadayawan Festival in August, book accommodation on Traveloka at least 4–6 weeks in advance. Hotels sell out quickly during this popular event.

Consider Samal Island Resorts: If you want a beach holiday with easy city access, staying on Samal Island gives you the best of both worlds. The ferry crossing takes just 15 minutes and costs under RM 2.

Leverage the Exchange Rate: The Malaysian Ringgit is strong against the Philippine Peso, making Davao City exceptionally affordable. Budget travellers can enjoy a comfortable holiday on RM 100–150 per day including hotel, meals, and transport.

Use Traveloka App Features: Take advantage of Traveloka's price comparison, guest reviews, and flexible cancellation options to find the best Davao City hotel for your needs.

Pack Insect Repellent: For visits to nature attractions like the Philippine Eagle Centre or Eden Nature Park, bring insect repellent. Choose hotels with proper screening or air-conditioning for a comfortable sleep.

Try the Night Market First Night: Head to Roxas Night Market on your first evening in Davao for an unforgettable and ultra-affordable food experience. It sets the tone for an amazing culinary journey throughout your stay.
