DONGMEN 3 Capsule Inn - Hostel

I reserved two nights but I left after one for a real hotel. I understand that this is a budget option, but for 15$ more a night, I got a private room and private bathroom somewhere else. This inn has a shared bathroom and cubes for bunk beds. The cubes are only a little bigger than the bed and you hear and smell your neighbors. The washer and dryer are on separate floors, there's not any way to lock up big suitcases or bags, and the after hours code didn't work for me, I had to wait until someone left. Oh, and there are no towels. I know not everyone is the same, but I was so happy to sleep in a private room in a different hotel.

The staff was friendly all around!! Kind and helpful! My cubicle / bunk was good. I was on the upper bunk, which was a challenge to climb sometimes. Place was clean. This place is a true hostel, so you'll be sharing the bathroom. Be careful with your belongings. I ended up missing NT$1,000 from my wallet. Anyways, good place to stay otherwise.

This isn’t a hostel for travellers or backpackers. Most people I met lived at the hostel. This made it difficult for new people as those who lived at the hostel didn’t socialize with backpackers. They offer weekly rates which is why I think they have so many people living there. There aren’t any group activities which also doesn’t help with the atmosphere. There’s a small kitchen with a few cooking supplies. The sink was always dirty with food in it in the 4 days I stayed there. Breakfast doesn’t start until 8:30am which felt very late. The breakfast is only toast with peanut butter or chocolate spread. The location is conveniently next to a metro station. It is further out of the main tourist area and younger area of Ximending.

The staff was extremely helpful and nice! I booked the wrong dates on accident, but they let me book another night with no fuss, and in the same capsule. The capsules are extremely comfy, and I was more than satisfied with the bathroom and showers. The well-priced and yummy cafe connected to the main floor, as well as the metro stop less than a minute away are extra-convenient! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good hostel.

Overall I lovely place however this hostel isn’t this westernised, if you are planning to make friends you may find it hard. And one particular thing I did not enjoy is that at night since everyone would be back at the dorm to sleep, there is over 10 of us in one dorm, the dorm will get really stuffy and humid.

That good location and feel comfortable with balcony

Location is perfect, just next to the subway station. I was surprised to receive an email alert on the door access code since I arrive after 10pm. Room is small but comfortable bed. Cons: I would prefer the bathrooms to be gender specific.

We have stayed several times and we are always happy with everything. The staff and facility are always to our liking. We will stay again next time we visit Taipei.

Conclusion: Lazy staffs. The pro : generally clean. The con: no curtain for bunker bed, zero privacy. Lazy staffs. When I got back to the inn, i asked for a towel. The girl at the front desk told me even I pay, she had no dry towel because people stole towels and she needed 20 minutes to blow dry the towel if I need one. I told her it is totally un acceptable that an inn had no towel ready, I asked her to dry one for me even it would take 20 minutes. But she told me more than 5 times to go out and buy my own towel in the middle of a night. I refused and told her to get me the towel. After just a smoke and walked back, she said she had a dry towel ready. (Why you said you do not have dry towel!!). Then when I tried to login the wifi, it did not connect. I showed it to the staff and asked if they can try restart he wifi router, they told me they are afraid the router might not come back up to live, because it happened before. For me, they are just a group lazy staffs.

Enjoyed my time here. I have stayed at a few capsule hostels before and this is next level - the bunk is very roomy with a lot of space to put your belongings, it's like a mini room. The location is very good, very close to subway and Din Tai Fung and other famous restaurants are very nearby. Travelers mostly kept to themselves but were considerate enough.

Stayed from 29/12/17 to 2/1/18. We were given password to the main entrance for our late check-in for fast and smooth access to the property. Overall stay was satisfactory. Notice a lump of hair in the shower floor for few days. It was still there on our last day of stay. One of the shared toilet bowls was stuck too on our last day of stay. What an eye sore for the toilet users! On 1/1/18 morning we checked with the receptionist on storage of our baggage for 2/1/18 and whether can still use the access code for the door should we reached the hotel after 11 pm on 2/1/18 since we will be checking-out in the morning of 2/1/18. We were told that our door code will be cancelled once we check out. However, in the evening of 1/1/18 (while still staying in the hotel) our code has been cancelled causing inconvenience when we need to move in and out of the hotel after 11 pm when there is no one to man the reception and main entrance door was closed and locked. Very bad for the receptionist (a short hair girl) to do that!

The overall of the hotel is really great. The bed is very comfortable and nice. The room is big. Will come back again here if I have an opportunity.
