The room was over heated. The TV casting was unusable which we were not warned about and were very disappointed as we weren’t able to watch films in bed as we’d hoped. I requested a bath ahead of time and dint get one. We went for a drink in the bar which was chaotic, overrun, it was impossible to be served, other guests were complaining and the staff were squabbling. We didn’t get a menu for 30 minutes and had to go up to the bar to order. Drinks of course took forever. Disappointing experience, the room didn’t feel up to the price standards either, and had wall markings. I left feeling underwhelmed, the experience was subpar.

The grout in the bathroom was cracked, crumbled and missing in the shower flooring where you stand. Als, there was hard water buildup on the waterfall shower head.

The hotel is a classic old fashioned hotel with a large portico as you enter. It has a very modern yet classic feel and staff were very helpful. Opted for an upgraded room which overlooked the park. Furnishings were minimal and in comparison to other hotels I have stayed at were a bit tired and stains on carpet which was a bit surprising given it’s status. Car parking at hotel was good and location is perfect as it is central Cambridge. Overall worth a try but personally not sure I would rush back. The main concern was on payment, reserved the room through Expedia and handed my card when booking in and on check out was told the excess would be paid back into my account. However, the hotel charged my other card from Expedia that I had used to reserve. Thus have a pre authorised amount taken from one account and the full amount taken from another card. On calling the hotel they were not very helpful and said they had no record of the pre authorised debit.. even though I had the receipt. Now have to wait up to 30 days for the money to come back into my account. So warning. Just make sure you are clear on where they are debiting your money

We had a pleasant stay with a couple of frustrations. Our room wasn’t ready for 4pm so had drinks in the bar but very expensive, wouldn’t have hurt the break to stand the first round as an apology for not being ready. When we got to the room it was lovely and spacious but it was very cold the AC was set to 19c we whacked it up high but it took over 5 hours to warm up enough to be comfortable very frustrating! We had a long day shopping and so opted for room service, they had run out of the Gin we ordered and it took 3 trips to deliver our order. We settled in to watch some TV and relax in the chilly room but it was a very old TV with no modern entertainment like Netflix etc when we had intended to watch a ln Xmas movie. We slept well and breakfast was lovely. Pretty big queue to checkout but w head to do in person because of room charges etc. We enjoyed the stay and the hotel is beautiful and location brilliant but expected a little more for our money.

I am a Cambridge resident and have visited the University Arms many times over the years. On this occasion I was staying the night to attend a charity function. The hotel is lovely, sadly not as architecturally grand as it was pre-fire. Service was excellent a room well appointed. The issue was the room temperature which remained between 23-24 degrees all night with no way to change the settings (centrally controlled). This resulted in a very uncomfortable night with little sleep; at one point I considered checking out and getting a taxi home. I do not generally leave negative reviews, however, as it has been over a week and the hotel has not taken the opportunity to contact me to discus, it seems appropriate to leave a review.

The thermostat in the room was not quite functional. It became hot and then cold. The maid service one day missed replenishing a number of things, but they brought the supplies when we called and gave us some chocolates. We forgot about things in the safe, and they called us and arranged to send back the items. This part was very good.

Loved the Art Deco illustrations throughout the public areas. One of the best designed art hangings I’ve seen outside a museum! Loved my view over Parker’s Piece of students cycling to lectures and playing sport. Staff were generally very kind and helpful.

It is beautifully decorated, but need to keep up with the maintenance to keep it at the right level. eg carpets are pale and starting to look stained.

We loved the hotel and the room, one thing I felt wasn't customer focused was a pre£35 charge for having a pet ( fine after if she fouled but usually it's complimentary or £10), and£40 overnight parking. Excessive. Everything else was superb.
