Needs a full refurbishment to bring into the 21st century very tired and scruffy room.

This is a lovely hotel, just in need of some TLC. My advice would be to not stay in room 23 - it was in a very odd place in the hotel, dark and under staff accommodation and they were very noisy. Not a lot of sleep was had. Apart from that, the hotel was great. Food was ok, coffee machine made great coffee. Best thing was the staff - they were lovely. Made us feel so welcome. Would stay here again in one of the main house rooms on the first floor.

Smashing location - nice accommodation, don't be put off by the somewhat weathered exterior of the building. Clean and comfortable room, OK breakfast, nice evening meal, though note that if you book dinner the drink they offer you is NOT included, which only became clear at checkout! Great location, competitive price, nice grounds. Dog friendly. Pleasant and helpful staff, though a very small team

Sadly this is one of the worst Hotels I’ve ever stayed in, I find it funny to think that it causes itself a boutique hotel. Lovely gardens and that’s where it stops. What I loved was the fact that my room was right next door to the main road, so the idea of sleeping was an impossibility with traffic passing right next door to the window all night Long.

I was confused by the reviews on this hotel as they swung from terrible to fantastic. I found the place perfect for my stay, while doing the coast to coast walk. The staff were all friendly and helpful, the breakfast was good, the bar was good, I didn’t require an evening meal. The room was clean as were the facilities. There is really nothing nearby, (by foot). The building is old and does need a lot of work, but this didn’t affect my stay. The room furniture was also a little ‘tired’, but my stay was comfortable.

The property in a previous life would have been amazing. It is very run down and needs a complete update. Staff were nice.Breakfast was ok We asked if we could have the radio on as it was so quiet in the dining room but that was broken as well. Unfortunately our room was not ideal. The bed had a mattress with springs popping out very uncomfortable. The bathroom had loose taps. The wiring left a lot to be desired and it had lots of cobwebs. The grounds were nice but again they needed some attention.They did take some money off the bill due to intermittent internet and the tv not working.It was a real shame as the photos make it look lovely. It was an ideal location for us but just not up to scratch.

Limited dinner menu. No breakfast as left before restaurant opened.

I've stayed before and will do again. Nice helpful people.

great place

This is Bueatiful.Hotel.very old but very well staffed everthing you need for a great stay . By no means modern . But supricing place .

Pet friendly. Good comfortable stay. The food portions were very small for the cost but apart from that it was a good stay :)

Excellent and attentive staff, a pleasant room and a fantastic breakfast. We'd stay here again however there are elements - the big rip in the curtains being the most obvious example - that require attention.

The room was very run down with broken wood around the windows, the bathtub was covered in hair and the cup in the bathroom had old toothpaste in it, the handle on the bathroom door was loose and didn't lock and the TV remote didn't work.

Comfortable bed, warm room, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.

Was a bit worried from the outside but internally it looked much better. Excellent staff and good food. They say they are dog friendly which they are but at a price. We stayed 3 nights and were charged £15 per night per dog for our two dogs £90!!!

Satisfactory return visit

Terrible place i am afraid to say. Run down inside and out (only nice area is the bar) exterior almost looks derelict, rooms and other areas shabby dirty and altogether grim. Food expensive and average at best. Fire alarm went off twice late at night and early morning. Room leading to garden no key and lock open, window catches useless. Shower broken. Carpets filthy but luckily bedding clean although on lumpyist mattress I have ever slept on Breakfast average. Only plus was the lady on reception when we arrived, working on her own doing everything (Reception, Restaurant,Bar) she deserves to work in a much better place. This hotel has a grand name and maybe history but is no longer the case.
