Really enjoyed our stay, the peacocks were noisy and beautiful and we even enjoyed that! The hotel is beautiful and quiet. The staff is friendly and helpful! A bit of a walk uphill if you come back with a taxi or Uber but nothing to complain about. We will be back soon!

Fantastic hotel at the top of the mountain that is lavish. Beautiful rooms, wonderful comfortable shared space including lovely courtyard. Incredibly helpful staff. Only challenge is getting a cab to and from… but quite central and walkable to the Center of Old Lisbon.

We can’t express just how perfect our stay was. The hotel was everything we wanted. Staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive. The constant availability of refreshments and the any time you need it bar was marvelous. Breakfast was such an easy way to brighten each day. The grounds managed to both be secluded and within walking distance of everything! Room was cozy and well appointed. The whole building seemed to be in newly renovated condition which is remarkable since it’s roughly 500 years old.

Solar do Castelo is a very special place. It’s like a little retreat atop the hectic and narrow streets of Alfama, right next to the Palace of Sao Jorge. Quiet and calm (except for the resident peacocks, which strangely we got used to), it’s a restful place that feels more like an inn. My only slight complaint was the bathroom was a bit cramped (compared to other 5-star hotels we stayed at in Sesimbra and Porto) but it was well appointed. The bed was very comfortable, and they even offer to make it softer for you if you want, by adding a topper. I took them up on that offer and it was amazing. The staff is genuinely nice and helpful. Although you have to huff and puff to get up here, it’s ultimately worth it. One thing to note: everything I read said cars could not come all the way up to the hotel, but this proved not to be entirely true. Taxis have a special pass that allows them to get past the “pins” - traffic posts that come out of the ground and lower if you have the pass thingy. Ubers and cars can only come up so far.

Simple & lovely. Our friends stayed there on their past trip so we decided to give it a try. It does create a little bit of logistical patience being at one of the highest points, in a very tourist-filled neighborhood, if you are with someone who doesn’t like to walk a lot, as cars are unable to pick up or drop off easily or quickly at the hotel door. There is no parking & we were allowed to park our car at the sister hotel - which we may stay at next time. Also the peacock calls start early in the morning & luckily i used my noise cancellation ear buds to sleep.

Great location in the old part of town next to the castle and it's surprisingly quiet. There is a lovely courtyard where you can have breakfast if you wish, or simply enjoy the environment. The staff are very friendly and helpful and tea, coffee and water on hand 24/7. There is also a well stocked honesty bar. Whilst there is no restaurant they are some great restaurants nearby for lunch and evening meals.

Beautiful hotel in a secluded location. It’s located uphill with tight alleyways, so cabs/ubers may struggle to get you there but the hotel scheduled pick ups without issue. Walking to and from town was easy enough but definitely not for the mobility impaired.

Gorgeous property with such history, including the cistern below. It felt special being right next to the castle. The staff was very helpful and kind. Breakfast was fantastic, and we enjoyed the pastries and sparkling wine every evening. Having an honor bar was also much appreciated. All their restaurant recommendations were excellent! Fair warning about peacock mating season, they are quite loud but beautiful and entertaining.

Perfectly located near the castle in the middle of all the action. Peacocks are everywhere. Make sure you book a taxi because Ubers are not allowed. And get a smaller vehicle so you can get close to the front door. Otherwise you will be hauling your bags up cobblestone streets. Highly recommend the hotel for its charm, history & friendly staff.

The staff team was very good, professional and courteous. Our room (#3) was a corner room and looked out into the courtyard. It was comfortable, security was good, breakfast was very generous and most of all, it was a relaxing atmosphere.
