Room was dated but clean. Indoor pool was useful. Can't swim at the beach because there no beach, very rocky and waves were pretty rough, but nice to have waterfront view. Very accessible to funchal by bus. Bus stop was just a block away. Font desk were not too helpful interms of going out of their way looking for excursions outside of their tour partners. Beach towels were controlled, first sets are free, if need clean ones there are extra fees and must return the towels to front desk to avoid fees. Cannot leave it in the room. Breakfast was good. All in all, we enjoyed our stay.

A few shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. Room was huge- walk in shower, kitchenette, sitting area. Would have preferred a double bed instead of two singles.mattress was too hard for me. Breakfast was plentiful. Lots of sun terraces and access to the sea. I would absolutely recommend this hotel.

My stay was short as the result of a flight cancellation. The spa and pool looked inviting and I was disappointed not to have time to enjoy them.

Long wait at reception even just to return a towel. Very grumpy older lady at reception, although other staff there were very nice. Terrible dinner buffet (overcooked tuna, vegetables etc), dishes almost empty and not repleneshed, poor dessert choice (1 cake!!), very expensive (29.50 euros which for two was almost 100.00!!!!). Many other option to eat in the area.No shade at primary pool area. Room very clean, beds very hard. Very pleasant cleaning staff and SAMUEL at the omelette station for breakfast was amazing!!!! Breakfast buffet was very good. If you stay here be prepared to walk uphill to get anywhere. It was fine for us, but anyone who has difficulty walking would struggle!! Unfortunately I would not recommend this resort as there are many other options in the area.

The hotel is average at best. It is definitely not 4* as advertised. Maybe once back in the 90s. You are made to wear a wristband even if on a B&B package, not something I’ve seen in a 4* before. It lacks any personality or ambiance and has an eery atmosphere. The decor is sterile. In fact, it is 3 hotels merged into one and each are decorated differently with the Royal Orchid meant to be the better part. It is not. The terraces are cold and uninviting, some are oddly huge without much furniture. Rooms are depressingly boring. The hotel bar is not a place you’d want to spend time in, the evening entertainment is naff. There is a much better 4*hotel and bar round the corner that’s worth a visit - Sentido Galomar. The breakfast is whatever you can make of it and feels worse than a hectic school canteen. One redeeming feature is the gym, though the staff aren’t the friendliest. Check in took forever, so much paperwork and not much information given about certain things around the hotel, we had to figure things out for ourselves. The location is fine, easily accessible to the rest of Madeira and walkable to a beach. We did end up spending more than planned as didn’t want to spend any longer than we had to in the hotel or our room.

The sea view was lovely and the beds were pretty comfortable. Had balcony which was nice. The hotel had several parts. We were in the Rocamar self catering studios and I have to say felt like we were treated less because of this. The royal orchard is very smart & shiny. The self catering block was tired and a bit run down. There was rust & peeling around the mirror in bathroom & bottom of the bathroom door was flaking wood & paint. There were ants in the kitchenette ( probably not much can be done in a hot country but meant we barely ate there having made effort to go self catering with my small child & not have the stress & pay to eat out all the time with 5 yr old). When it rained the room flooded very badly. Luckily I did nit have anything on the floor on that side of the room. The drain from the roof empties into the patio which slopes towards the room so a LOT of water came in. I had to use all the towels & blankets to stop it. When I told reception in the morning she just shrugged and said the cleaner would bring towels. They were in no way apologetic or even very bothered about it.
