We had a LOVELY stay and the village, setting, and proximity to Chenonceau couldn't have been better. Very friendly staff and pretty hotel with a quiet garden pool. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Because the hotel didn't seem to be a 5-star hotel. It was a very nice 4-star hotel at 5-star prices, and the rate didn't even include breakfast. The room, while pleasant, was not as luxurious as it should have been. Breakfast, while fine, likewise wasn't particularly memorable both in terms of food and the ambience of the dining room. To be clear, nothing was wrong with the property. It just was a stretch to call it 5 stars and the price likewise seemed too high for the experience. But it was a lovely 4-stars and if the price had been a tad lower and more 4-star level, with breakfast included, I would have given it full marks here.

It is a beautiful village, and this hotel sits unobtrusively within it, in easy walking distance to the Chateau of Chenonceau. The hotel itself is a wonderful mix - old houses and new buildings leading out to their own small farm with sheep, ducks,, and just across the road a heated swimming pool. The staff are very helpful. The dining room is great - we were there on a weekday off season and enjoyed the excellent bistro menu - and in season there is also fine dining. We enjoyed our stay a lot.

Auberge du Bon Laboureur seemed to be trying very hard to appear like fine dining, but the quality and service simply were not there. The staff felt inexperienced, almost like students playing at restaurant service. The manager was polite, but strangely absent and checked out. Courses arrived before the previous plates had been cleared, leaving the waitstaff awkwardly searching for someone to remove them. We waited about 20 minutes for the bottle of white wine we had ordered. It was sitting on ice, but when opened it was still warm. Why was no one honest enough to say it had not been properly chilled? Were we expected to drink it with dessert? My langoustine appetizer was deeply disappointing: pre-cooked, dry, room temperature, and not properly cleaned, with the vein and entrails still present. It consisted of three very tiny pieces. My main course, fish, arrived extremely hot, badly overcooked, and so salty I could not eat it. The woman who took our order did not know who had ordered which dish when the plates arrived. A butter wrapper was left on the table and never removed. It was one small failure after another. Overall, the experience felt like a large, bumbling, incompetent staff pretending to deliver fine dining. For a restaurant with this reputation, it was a serious disappointment

Wonderful pkace in a great location. Front desk staff are awesome. My only cririque is our bathroom shower had very little water pressure. Visited both restaurants and although food and service were excellent, the food was quite pricey in the Gourmand restaurant.
