It is not a resort but a small picturesque hotel and does not cater to non Spanish speakers. A certain level of athleticism is required as to go anywhere, including the beach, which is not far but relatively steep. It is HOT and humid. The pool and deck are lovely and there are seldom more than few guests about. The air-con is a huge relief, we had ours set at 26' and it still felt like a fridge when coming in from outside. The WIFI is dodgy. The staff pleasant but more tolerant than welcoming.

Have been coming to this hotel each year for 10 years or so and each time is a great stay and warm welcome. The staff are wonderful and the location is peaceful and well located. Thanks for another great stay! Hope to come back with more family soon

Beautiful property. My only complaint is that there are no lights on the road leading to it. Also the property signage outside is not great and it was difficult to find initially.

Left my phone charger in my room. Called from Puerto Escondido the next day and asked them to hold it for me as I was returning to Mazunte the following day as part of my travel plans. They did as requested. This doesn’t happen in every hotel in Mexico. I was very pleased as I lost my charger due to the exact circumstances in Mexico City earlier in the week and that one was not returned

We booked last minute due to a double booking elsewhere and felt like we got the last minute booking room :/ Mazunte is expensive in general and here you are paying for the spectacular view & beautiful pool. However: No drinking water provided, the sheet didn’t fit the bed, no bedside cabinets (so everything has to go on the floor?), table and one chair (for 2 ppl), lockbox but no key, our room faced the courtyard where everyone comes & goes and our curtains did not cover the window for privacy let alone block out any light, no menu at lunch, the hotel is under renovation so plenty of hammering all afternoon. At the best part of £60 a night, we were disappointed. It’s up a substantial, steep slope so get a taxi if you have lots of luggage or aren’t too mobile. The pool and the view are wonderful and if you got a better room than us it would be worth it.

Amazing location and view. Nice pool. Cleanliness not great. Mediocre food and coffee. Good hot water. Staff not enthusiastic and did not pay attention. More that Mazunte is always extremely hot--not the hotel's fault but they should consider adding ac to all rooms.

The view is beautiful but the hotel is 200 steps down to the beach. My bungalow was right about half way in between, it had no air conditioning, TV or WiFi (available only in the main building).

Probably the best hotel location in Mazunte. Altamira has stunning view over the bays of Mazunte, and San Agustinillo. The property is very private. The rooms do need updating, linens have seen better days but are clean and housekeeping efficient. The outside deck was spacious and it looked like all cabins have new comfortable Hammocks. Basic WiFi only available at the restaurant we had Mexican SIM Cards and data plan. Cabana had updated cooling fan(s), no AIr Conditioning (AC is not required, there are cool breezes). We chose to use the Altamira restaurant once, during our stay we saw many guests using the restaurant. If you are looking for pristine rooms and top level service this property is not for you. If you are an experienced traveller and want a truly memorable experience Altamira is a great choice. Altamira is located next to Punta Comèta national park and nature reserve. This means you are living with nature and a few non scary bugs both inside and outside. Steep hills from Mazunte and many stair steps to beach from hotel restaurant or rooms. Guests need a moderate fitness level or stairs and hills will be challenging. Altamira hotel property stairs leads directly to Playa Rincocita the best swimming spot in Mazunte. There are many beach restaurants, beach bars as well as boat tours. Altamira is a Traditional Mexican hotel property, basic Spanish is a big advantage. We would definitely choose a stay at Altamira again.

Best view ever, but beware lots of stairs, staff was friendly but patience is required in this laid back community, Mazunte is a must stop in Oaxaca
