I booked Hotel Villa Rica because the rate was reasonable for my stay in Rio. Based on the listing, I wasn’t expecting a luxury hotel, but I was disappointed by the overall condition of the property. The first room I was assigned was spacious, but the bathroom—particularly the shower—did not appear to be thoroughly cleaned, and the furniture was extremely dated and heavily worn. The bed consisted of what felt like a thin mattress topper on a platform and was very uncomfortable. After speaking with the front desk, the staff kindly allowed me to inspect and choose another available room, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the second room had many of the same issues. Although the bed was an actual mattress, it was exceptionally firm and uncomfortable. The furnishings were again heavily worn, the window would not remain closed, and there was visible mold in the shower. After four nights, I decided to check out early because I simply wasn’t able to get adequate rest due to the bed. The breakfast was very good, and the front desk staff were friendly and accommodating throughout my stay. I also requested a prorated refund for the unused nights. The hotel initially responded promptly through WhatsApp and indicated a refund might be possible, but after Expedia submitted the formal request, communication stopped and the issue remains unresolved. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this property and would choose to stay elsewhere on a future visit to Rio.

Easy check in process. Clean room and very helpfull reception staff.

Mattress is about 3 inches thick. Pillows were smelly. Shower was leaking water outside into the hallway. Breakfast is very basic. Better than not having a place to sleep at all. Reception was available 24 hours, unlike the information I received stated.

The area is terrible. Very dirty, noisy, a lot of homeless people. The only good thing about this hotel is the staff and the breakfast. I wouldn't recommend it for solo female travelers, especially first time in Brazil. I was so shocked and scared to leave my room.

Good location - close to Lapa, Gloria and Cinelândia. You can walk to Flamengo beach and Gloria Marina for a boat ride. The rooms are basic but comfortable and the shower is hot with excellent water pressure. The breakfast is good.

Just an OK Hotel, I wanted a little more with Air Conditioning and the Qualities.

The room was very colorful, but it was very comfortable. the lights and different settings were very cool. very modern . The staff was very nice and professional, especially Leo. For a foreigner is very difficult to adapt to Brazil, everything felt different to me, but he explained to me everything and was very patient.

Excellent stay. The included breakfast was great. It was very simple and cozy.

Its not at all worth of what we paid for hotel and feel like we paid more money with less comfort and less amenities

There's some ants that i found at the room that i was in. It wasn't thoroughly clean. Overall it was average not good.

Great location, easy access to tourist areas, bars, clubs, downtown, subway station about 5 minute walk. Street is very quiet at night.

Soy de Venezuela y me pareció una excelente opción para hospedarse, bellas instalaciones, desayunos riquísimos y sobre todo mucha amabilidad.

Bueno bonito y barato. Volvería en un próximo viaje.

I reserved a room for my wife, she was going to stay there for 8 nights, when she checked in they accommodated her in a room with no windows, mold everywhere, stinky, dirty, TV not working, etc….. she had to spend the night because it was late, in the morning she went to the front desk to cancel the rest of days, and we couldn’t get any refund…. That’s stealing peoples money.. Shame on you guys…
