This is an old hotel on Penang Island. Getting to the ground floor from your car is a bit of a struggle, as you have to climb quite a few stairs. If you're carrying a suitcase, it's a bit cumbersome and heavy. However, the staff is quite helpful. The Wi-Fi isn't very strong. Breakfast offers a decent selection. The location is relatively close (not too close) to the mall, requiring a walk of almost 1 km.

I stayed at Berjaya Penang Hotel from 8th to 9th August 2025, and it was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. After driving 10 hours from Kuala Lumpur to Penang due to highway closures, I arrived exhausted with my wife and 1-year-old son. I had booked and paid for a Queen bed room in advance, clearly stated in my reservation. Upon arrival, the receptionist informed me that all Queen rooms were “fully booked” and only a twin bed was available. Despite explaining that we were a family with a young child, the hotel refused to provide a complimentary upgrade to a King bed (which would have been a reasonable solution given it was their overbooking error). Instead, I was forced to pay an additional RM50 for the King bed upgrade. The building itself looks old, poorly maintained, and certainly not up to the standard of a supposed 4-star hotel. The room was small and unimpressive. Breakfast was included in my booking, but I was not informed beforehand that it would be entirely vegetarian/vegan, which would have influenced my choice. The worst part was during check-out. The receptionist refused to process my check-out, insisting I had not paid for the upgrade — even though I had already paid it by card at check-in. The staff member even said, “If you don’t pay, I have to use my own money,” which is both unprofessional and inappropriate. Only after I strongly insisted and refused to pay twice did they finally process my departure. This stay was a complete nightmare from start to finish. Overbooking, hidden conditions, unprofessional handling of payment disputes, and misleading 4-star claims all make this hotel a place I will never return to. If you value your money, time, and peace of mind — stay away.

very happy to stay @ berjaya penang hotel

Just across the Penang Adventist Hospital, approximately 3 minutes walk only. The room is clean, and the staff are very friendly and helpful! Especially since there's a plenty of stairs from the drop off until we reach the lobby so the staff helping us to bring our luggage is very helpful! The foods are tasty especially the noodle soup! It was a great stay ♡

Location was great, just across Adventist Hospital & walking distance to Pulau Tikus & Gurney Drive. Staff were friendly & helpful.

For those who want to check up at Adventis Hospital, this hotel is highly recommended, just across the street.

It's an old hotel; my parents have been taking me here since I was little. I expected its 4-star status to be more upscale, keeping with the times, but it turned out to be the same, haha.

The staff were very nice. They were so helpful. Always have a good breakfast to start a day. Berjaya Hotel is located near Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon mall, you can just walk to get there. Also, it’s close to Pulau Tikus Wet Market, where you can get all local and street food. Such a good place to stay. And if you were coming to Penang to have a medical tour (just like I did), it’s a good place to stay because it is located in front of Adventist Hospital.

Always my go to hotel whenever medical trip to Penang. Near Gurney at walking distance and near kopitiam, Wellings, and hospitals.

Staffs are ok. Location is ok. Bfast is ok. Overall are ok.

I like this hotel.. maybe from the first time I went to Penang in 2015.. because I can walk to Gurney, and there are also many places to eat around this hotel.. everyone who works at this hotel is very friendly and helpful.. satisfied with this hotel.. and will return to Penang to stay at this hotel.. continued success in making the hotel successful.. 😍😍👍
