I paid for a corner room with partial lake view and a king bed upon arrival I was notified that the a/c for that room was not working. They gave me a much smaller room with no views and a queen bed. They offered choice reward points for the inconvenience but never gave them to us.

The Courthouse Hotel, an Ascend Collection Hotel, looks great in photos, but our experience was disappointing. We encountered an issue with our reservation dates, and the hotel was unable to assist us in adjusting them. Attempts to contact management were unsuccessful, which was frustrating. I hope they can improve their customer service in the future.

I love the idea of repurposing older buildings for new uses. The Courthouse Hotel did that in spades. It was clean and well organized and had a very good breakfast.

Upon arrival I was told there was no AC in my room and there were no other rooms available. I was assured I could have a full refund but after 48 hours I still have nothing.

No air conditioning, all the furniture needs a wipe down. Carpets were not vacuumed well at all.

The room was clean as were the linen and bedding. The TV/remote was comber some to use and not intuitive. Unfortunately someone left my window opened and the room I was in had issues with strong smoke smell(possibly from the recent forrest fires?) and made me feel very uncomfortable. The floors were carpet over possibly the original wood floors so they did squeak but being on the top floor did not affect me.

We've stayed here many times previously without issue. We apparently were messaged about an hour to an hour and a half before check-in that the A/C was not working. Quickly checking Expedia, of course there were no rooms available at any Thunder Bay / Expedia properties (likely due to wildfire evacuations/general status of Thunder Bay accommodations/vacancy now). Quick search of the other hotel branded websites yielded the same result, nothing available anywhere. While checking in we overheard someone else say the A/C was out the previous week when they stayed there and they were wondering if it had been fixed yet. This same revelation was also confirmed when reading other recent Expedia users comments, later that night. So in the end I accepted the room without A/C on the tail end of a heatwave and poor air quality due to wildfire smoke. Where else was I going to stay? They did eventually provide a fan and I also went and purchased one on my own. Staff were as helpful and professional as they could be, given the situation. They did provide a discount/refund of 10% upon request when checking out so I guess that counts for something. Frustrating part is if they potentially knew the A/C was going to be out for a long period, had they reached out earlier other arrangements might have been possible. That and still charging full premium rate, despite a pretty important amenity being unavailable.

The air conditioning didn't work in our room. They knew about it before we checked in and didn't tell us. When we tried to open the windows, the screens were broken off and not replaced.
