I stayed at Duta Hotel Tarakan and parked my motorcycle and helmet in the designated parking area. When I returned to my motorcycle, I discovered that my helmet was missing.
I immediately approached the receptionist to report the incident and expected the hotel staff to at least assist me in checking what had happened. Unfortunately, the receptionist did not seem concerned or make any meaningful effort to help. She did not offer to check the CCTV footage or ask the security staff for assistance.
Instead, she told me: “Bapak nggak baca ada tulisan di situ kalau bawa helm dibawa masuk ke kamar?”
I was honestly surprised by this response. I did not notice the sign at the time, but even if there was such a notice, I believe the hotel should have handled the situation more professionally once a guest reported that their belongings had gone missing.
What is the purpose of having a hotel parking area and security if guests are simply told to bring their helmets into their rooms? At the very least, I expected the hotel to help investigate the incident, check the CCTV, or ask the security staff whether they had seen anything.
I left my phone number with the receptionist in case the helmet was found and asked them to contact me. It has now been more than two weeks, and I have received absolutely no update, not even a simple apology or follow-up from the hotel.
For me, the biggest disappointment is not only the loss of my helmet, but also the lack of concern, assistance, and follow-up from the hotel staff after I reported the incident.
I hope the management of Duta Hotel Tarakan takes this complaint seriously and reviews how guest complaints and security incidents are handled.
Guests deserve to feel that their belongings and concerns are taken seriously.
