The property has an expectacular view. Highly recommend to visit for the view and get a bite at the restaurant. I won recommend to stay. There is no A/C anywhere and in March it is hot. Upgrade is needed and room amenities are low quality. Be prepare to use tons of stairs because there is no elevator.

The staff are absolutely wonderful. Would really prefer that they have a website with more details & menus. An information card or something to tell me, when is breakfast? when is lunch? what is the wifi password? other basics would be nice. Don't come here if you're looking for a conveniently walkable spot, not that you really should because the property is gorgeous and if you have a quiet stay it's a great place to be. Uber everywhere, uber eats everything (but be ready for hefty delivery/service cost). The room was fine, view was INCREDIBLE. Bathroom meh and floor starting to crack, but the building is also a 100 year old plantation. Nice place to recover from a surgery but lack of info could be improved :) Pamphlets in the room would be perfect - bonus points for more history on the building.

I was going to leave a nasty review again about Fogo but decided to say our visit was acceptable and perhaps will stay again. We arrived shortly after 1 pm knowing that the published checkin time was 3 pm. Reception and the female manager said our room was ready but we would need to pay 13 dollars x 3 people if we wanted an early checkin. I lost it! After much verbal discussion, they agreed to waive their early checkin fee. Will eating an overpriced soup lunch on property, a staff person came to the table and said we were upgraded to the penthouse which was about 4 stories high via stairs. The stay was OK but initial observations to extract more money from us not so much! They did carry our heavy bags up and down from their penthouse which as appreciated.

Do not fall for the photos. This place is a dump. I have plenty of photos to show you. After one night we left as we felt unsafe. No smoke detector in the room, floors buckeling, torn curtains- the list goes on.

The hotel is very beautiful with comfortable rooms, the staff is very professional and respectful. Besides that, the restaurant is great with a good menu and a wonderful landscape. It is also close to many other places you can visit in Escazú, Santa Ana and San José.

Entire rooms have no a/c. I reserved a room which upon arrival they stated they had a problem with room so they we’re switching rooms which the room didn’t look anywhere near the rooms showed on web site They charged my credit card and wouldn’t issue a credit stating it was Expedia who issue’s credit. And no where on website states no a/c in sleeping rooms No happy now needed to reserve another room and call for car service again. Complete disaster

We stayed at the Fogo Resort for one night before departing Costa Rica. The hotel is in a privileged location up in the mountains above San José. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff, especially Evelyn, is knowledgeable and very helpful. The restaurant's breakfast was excellent. The views from the hotel are just wonderful. There is no A/C but since the property is at an elevation of 4500 ft no A/C is needed. Make sure to book a room with a view of the city; you will not regret it. Would definitely stay there on my next trip.

We had the Villa for our stay. The Villa had a kitchen but, we didn't use it. The living room had big windows with great views of the city. Unfortunately the street in front of the villa was a popular place for locals to party with loud music and some creaming. The partying only went on until two in the morning though. The bedroom had two king beds that were very comfortable. Also, the outside noises were not as bad from the bedroom and I had no trouble sleeping. Overall the place had been neglected and will take a lot of work to bring it back to it's former glory. The pool was open and refreshing but, the hot tub looks like a free one from Craigslist. The restaurant had good food although I thought was a bit pricey and limited in selection.

The old hotel is beautiful, sort of like a southern mansion. Don't expect perfection, but the staff and view make the place quite nice. Easy to get a taxi if you are not driving, and the restaurant and bar on the premises are fine. Amazing views make a lovely place for and evening drink. Best thing was the staff--check-in, bar staff, and everyone else were fantastic.

BEWARE. The hotel re-configured the 2 bedroom villa into one sleeping room with 2 King beds. Photo posted here in no longer accurate. No privacy for 4 adult people. When I inquired about the adjoining door which we had used previously their response was there would be an extra charge for this.
