Ignore the bad reviews. This is the second year running I’ve came here with my children. The hotel is clean and the staff are really polite and helpful it’s cheaper than the other hotels in the area as it’s being refurbished the rooms are decent and lovely views if you get a sea room.

Mohamed in reception made us feel very welcome. So did his young colleague - I didn't catch his name. We were there for 5 nights and had two rooms. There was not much car parking space but we were able to park for most of our stay on site. The rooms were clean and the shower worked perfectly. The hotel's decor could use a lick of paint but other than that we all had an enjoyable stay.

Arrived at 9.00 Fri evening t He couldn't find any record of my booking, even after showing booking confirmation and reference. The place had a musty smell and a unclean feel to it. It looks as if there has been no attempts of upkeep at the property for years. I did not stay and found somewhere else to stay

The "breakfast" was some pastries that were bought wholesale, loaves of cheap toast bread, butter and jam, and sparkling squash. This wasn't a breakfast and if I had known it was this I wouldn't have booked here. The receptionist was incredibly hard to understand, you have to pay £10 per night to park your car in the worst and dodgiest car park all the time, and the whole site feels unsafe with loud and strange characters in every corner. There was hair on the shower curtain. There was a weird couple of drawers in the desk that were bolted. The roof as you walk past the window is littered with rubbish.

For the price we paid I was only expecting very basic accommodation - I think a comfortable bed and a warm shower are a minimum expectation whatever the price and on that basis it just about delivers. However, there was a very uncomfortable feeling throughout the whole stay, not helped by other residents coming and going noisily at all hours of the day and night, the shady looking characters hanging around nearby and the barely disguised drug deals we witnessed in the vicinity involving those residents. I don’t believe the hotel or staff had any involvement, but they may want to consider what sort of clientele they want to attract.

We booked this for just a night away, we saw only 1 staff member (lady on reception) very helpful but other then that we saw no-one, the room we had was clean but very dated, toilet didnt flush properly, the lino on the floor wasnt fitted properly and had bubbles-persumable from an old leak, beckfast was free but the dining area put us off so decided against it, its a shame because it could be a lovely hotel if it had monry invested to make it more upto date. We visut torquay every few months but we wont be visiting this hotel again.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! On arrival at the hotel in the evening we were told that the parking was £10 per night even though the website I booked through said free parking. We were then told that the lift was out of order, I have read reviews since stating other guests were also told this, but I don't believe that there even IS a lift at the hotel and the staff are told to lie. The girl at the reception was pleasant and polite and I felt sorry for her. There was a man skulking around reception acting strangly and staring at us the whole time we were checking in. We presumed was a member of staff, it was unnerving. We were then told we had to pay for the room (I had to check my bank to find that Expedia had only taken £8 when I thought that I had paid in full) I really wish I had checked the room before paying. As we struggled up the stairs with our luggage, the closer we got alongthe corridor, the dirtier the carpets and walls became. Our room was dingy, smelly and the carpet was disgusting. Old stains on the walls and carpets and cigarette burns on the bathroom window sill. All the furniture was damaged or broken. The bed sheets were dirty and smelt damp. There were lots of dodgy looking men hanging around in the corridor outside our room and we didn't feel safe. We felt that we couldn't stay and left after 10 minutes and booked into the local Travelodge which thankfully had a room available. I can't believe that this place is allowed to run as a hotel, its disgusting and needs

There is limited parking space and no disable parking space. Inside tge building, it smell musty the front desk surface dusty and sticky. Only one person operate at the counter. Not able to speak to manager. The whole building looked dated, peeling paint, half hanging curtain at certain rooms( can see it from outside ). Guests are mostly drunk and loud even during day time. Outside the main door, there is a man keep approaching guests to give him cigarettes. Very intimidating. Receptionist not very helpful and knowledge able. Can't really answer my questions. Have to call Hotels.com if i require further helps.

I recently stayed at this hotel and had a very mixed experience. The gentleman on the night shift was extremely rude and arrogant – without doubt the most unpleasant member of staff I’ve ever come across in a hotel. However, the lady on reception in the morning was the complete opposite: very polite, helpful, and welcoming. The owner was also friendly and made an effort, which I really appreciated. That being said, they charge £10 per night for parking, which feels like daylight robbery, especially since you don’t even get a guaranteed parking space for that fee. The condition of the hotel itself isn’t great – it’s definitely in need of some attention – but for the price you pay, it’s decent value. Overall, the stay was acceptable thanks to the morning staff and the owner, but the night staff really lets the place down.

I’m not sure if it’s called the Richmond Hotel or Diamond Hotel, but either way, I would not recommend staying here. The place felt very dingy and was extremely noisy, making it hard to get a decent night’s sleep. The breakfast was disappointing, just toast and croissants, so if you want any real variety, you’ll need to go elsewhere. The worst part was the shower. It was like playing Russian roulette, swinging from scalding hot (the kind that burns your skin) to freezing cold without warning. Definitely not safe or comfortable. I wasn’t expecting luxury by any means, but wow… this was a real letdown. Save yourself the trouble and book somewhere else.

Before our stay I received an email confirming our booking for a Deluxe Double Ensuite room with a sea view. One day before our trip I received a call from HH Hotels informing me that if I had any questions just to call them. On our journey to the hotel I received another call telling me that the sea view room was no longer available. She said "You haven't paid yet and you booked with Hotels.com" I could have a Deluxe Double Ensuite room. We were given what could only be described as a hell hole in the basement near the fire escape. The route to exit was flooded. The carpet worn, the sink had major cracks which were black with mould and lack of cleaning, the shower had no door or curtain and again was disgusting. The velour headboard was thick with dust. I reported this and was moved to a small but slightly cleaner room. The door handle in the bathroom was broken and couldn't be used, therefore could not be closed. The shower was just no good at all , either scalding or very cold. The bed was comfortable. There were ample plug sockets. The chap on reception was there when we arrived at 2035 again for breakfast and late that same day. He was helpful and polite.
