What Guests Say About Their Stay

We appreciated being allowed to check in early and being given a room on the top floor as requested in advance. We also particularly liked the quiet and walkable neighborhood, the proximity to the docks, the dining and relaxation areas, the complete breakfast, and several of the dinner selections which we enjoyed both of our 2 nights at the hotel. The only negative aspect was the extremely small size of our room in which we could barely open and make use of our luggage.

As usual, IBIS provided a small room that somehow has a place for all of our possessions. Hooks, shelves, hangers, small tables, good lighting and a large comfortable lobby/entertainment area. The staff were very helpful including storing our luggage for 12 hours on our last day. The carpet in our room did have several nasty spills on it that should be corrected before the room is rented again. We liked the Hideout for coffee and fresh pastries, one block. There are quite a few cafes and shops by the Guildhall, and an extensive shopping area a few blocks beyond that. The cafe across the road on the 5th floor of the university building was not operational. Walking to Southsea or Gunwharf Quay is about 15 minutes. The Millenium Promenade was one of our favorite things in Portsmouth and it's free. Also, Osborne House on the Isle of Wight was pretty great.

Breakfast was nice, except the bacon, which was overcooked and chewy, possibly as a result of being out too long. Everything else was fine and, as it's a buffet, you can help yourself to whatever you want. The room was OK, although the bathroom is rather compact; I wouldn't want to have to towel dry myself with the bathroom door closed. These are minor issues, though. The staff were all very polite and helpful and everything was clean.

Despite the efforts of the crew / staff, the hotel feels tired, even against newer Ibis Budget fpr example. It was not even cheap. Bit disapponting all together.

Absolutely tiny room/shower room. No room to move in the shower room. Signs of black mould on the ceiling. Random fake rock face walls in corridors felt very claustrophobic. Noisy at the weekend due to a nightclub across the road - loud music until 3am. Other guests were also very noisy late at night. Doors didn't help as it was impossible to close them quietly. Convenient location for city centre, harbour and train station. Good breakfast and very nice staff, but unfortunately we won't be staying here again unless the rooms have a total redesign and makeover.

Great location for sightseeing/shopping.All within a 15-20 min walk or 5 minutes by car. Very basic welcome on reception. If a welcome at all!Departure was just the same.A simple “I hope you enjoyed your stay “ would have been appreciated but all the young man said was thanks when handing back the room cards. The room was clean and compact.Space is an issue particularly in the shower/toilet.The toilet itself is at an awkward angle in the corner which I imagine would not be easy to use especially if you are of a larger build. The port hole window in the shower room amused me as it looks like a washing machine door and opens like one. Bed was comfy with extra pillow provided if needed. We had booked in for 2 nights and dined at the restaurant the 2nd night and can not fault the food we ordered. It was delicious and fairly priced. Overall the stay was okay.Would I stay again, most probably yes.Would I recommend, yes I would with the emphasis on the very tight tiny toilet.:)
