We were checked in by a very polite and friendly young lady who gave us full information about the hotel We spoke with her again later when a further family member checked in and she had allocated them and adjoining room - such a classy act as the other guest is around 80 years old Well done and thank you

They use an older form of key card to unlock the door. It's a swipe card, it did not swipe which ment returning to reception to get it programmed again, very inconvenient when I had 3 bags with me. Everything else was good, including the breakfast. Just one thing I don't like is taking a deposit to cover any expenses, I am always worried that they or I will forget and I don't get my money back.

Very old and dated. Staff first night very helpful and friendly unfortunately not for rest of stay. Was emailed about upgrade which I wanted as it was for my wedding . Email Said that the f available you could do when checked in. When I checked in I asked about upgrade I was told it had been done automatically because it was my wedding . When got to my room. It was the room that I had paid for. Breakfast was very tasty . Highly light of stay . Second morning there was a dirty folk left on the floor by were I sat. Such a shame as there is a lot of potential here. The grounds are lovely . Need to be completely updated as some areas have been like new chairs next to ones that have just had bad fitted covers put on.

I stayed at the Great Danes Hotel in Maidstone and was extremely disappointed. On arrival, the reception desk was completely unstaffed, and after a long wait the check‑in was rushed with no information about the leisure facilities and only vague directions to my room. The first room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, with stained, worn curtains. I requested a room change and was initially told it wasn’t possible, though another room was eventually offered. The leisure facilities were dated, poorly supervised, and the shower area had visible black mould. Dinner was acceptable, but service was slow and staff seemed undertrained. Basic questions about bar options became unnecessarily long exchanges because staff didn’t know what was stocked. Returning to the room, I noticed a damp smell and clear signs of neglect: cracked plaster, dirty curtains, sticky furniture, peeling wallpaper, and visible mould and damp near the door. The carpet also looked unhoovered. The next morning, I discovered the shower had no showerhead at all—just an open pipe, making it unusable.

Hotel staff were amazing. Dinner was great. Now the negatives. There was a huge coach party staying over. The dining area was out of bounds for usual guests and signs were up to say 2 larger areas were reserved. The bar area itself only has a few tables so there was no where for other guests to sit. The bar area needs additional tables and get rid of the piano. I asked about seating to the waitress, she said for other guests the bar would stop taking food orders from 7-8. So I ordered in time, I chased my food 45 minutes later. The ticket hadn’t printed, but it came out quickly after this. Why didn’t reception tell me about the coach part my or that we need to order before 7. Other negatives the door swipe card kept playing up so had to visit reception 3 times for a new card. But I think the reader is faulty room 208. Also in my room randomly sticking out of the floor was a capped off pipe. I discovered it with my toe early this morning. Whilst staff were exceptional and dinner was when I got it. I would not stay here again!!
