The hotel staff provided prompt service, and the water park was perfect for children. There's also a games area and other family activities. The rooms were clean and the amenities were adequate. Hopefully, next time, they'll provide baby cots for families with infants.

Very kid-friendly, with a great outdoor area for toddlers to roam, and a swimming pool surrounded by gardens. Many luxury hotels in Jakarta have limited outdoor space and gardens. What's special is the written information about restaurant crowds at breakfast, so you can be better prepared.

We had a wonderful one-night stay at MaxOne Sabang Jakarta. Our family room comfortably accommodated four people, and it quickly became more than just a place to rest. We enjoyed eating together in the room, making the evening warm, lively, and full of great family conversations. The hotel’s biggest highlight is its location on Jalan Sabang. The street is lined with so many amazing food vendors that choosing where to eat was surprisingly difficult. There were simply too many tempting options, so we ended up having a second dinner just to try more of the delicious local food. The staff were also friendly and welcoming, making our short stay even more enjoyable. Even though we only stayed for one night, MaxOne Sabang Jakarta left a great impression. It’s a perfect choice for families and especially for anyone who loves exploring Jakarta’s famous street food scene.

More about hotels in Jaksa Street

Menteng: A Cultural Crossroads for the Discerning International Traveller

Menteng, a district within the sprawling metropolis of Jakarta, offers a unique blend of historical charm and modern vibrancy that appeals to a diverse range of international visitors. Unlike the more tourist-centric islands of Bali or the bustling commercial hubs of other Indonesian cities, Menteng presents a more nuanced and authentic urban experience. It’s a place where colonial-era architecture stands alongside contemporary art galleries, and where the pulse of Indonesian life can be felt in its tree-lined avenues and bustling local markets. For travellers seeking to understand the multifaceted identity of Indonesia beyond the typical postcard imagery, Menteng provides an invaluable window into its rich cultural tapestry and dynamic urban evolution.

The district itself is a fascinating mosaic of distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a different flavour of Jakarta life. From the backpacker-friendly lanes of Jaksa Street, buzzing with affordable eateries and guesthouses, to the more sophisticated and artistic enclave of Cikini, known for its galleries and cafes, Menteng caters to varied tastes and budgets. Kebon Sirih offers a glimpse into the city’s administrative and business heart, while the eponymous Menteng area itself is characterized by its leafy streets and grander residences, reflecting a more affluent side of the city. Gondangdia, another key area, bridges these worlds, providing a convenient base with good access to both commercial and cultural attractions. Understanding these nuances is key to crafting an itinerary that truly resonates.

From a value perspective, Menteng presents an attractive proposition for international travellers. With an average starting price of around ₱ 869.54 per night and an impressive overall review score of 8.1 from over 6,600 reviews, the district offers a compelling balance of affordability and quality. For travellers from the United States, Europe, or India, this translates into a cost-effective way to experience a major Southeast Asian capital without compromising on comfort or access to amenities. The sheer volume of reviews indicates a well-established tourism infrastructure, assuring visitors of a certain standard of service and a wealth of options to explore.

The accommodation landscape in Menteng mirrors this diversity, offering something for every type of traveller. For those seeking a lively and budget-friendly atmosphere, hotels like Dafam Express Jaksa Jakarta on Jaksa Street provide a comfortable and well-reviewed base, often featuring amenities that cater to international guests. On the other end of the spectrum, or for those seeking a more established and reliable option, Hotel Istana Ratu, also in the Jaksa Street area, offers a different, though still accessible, lodging experience. These examples highlight the range available, allowing visitors to book hotel accommodations that perfectly suit their travel style and budget.

Menteng is a destination that speaks to a broad spectrum of international visitors. For American travellers, it offers an accessible entry point into Southeast Asian urban culture, with a mix of modern conveniences and historical depth. European travellers, often drawn to cultural and historical narratives, will find Menteng’s colonial past and artistic present particularly engaging. Indian travellers will appreciate the relative affordability, the availability of diverse culinary options, and the connectivity that Jakarta offers as a regional hub. While direct comparisons for African travellers might be less common, the urban dynamism and the opportunity to experience a rapidly developing Asian economy can be a significant draw.

Best Areas to Stay in Menteng

Menteng, while a single district, is a varied mix of distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a unique atmosphere and set of attractions. For international visitors, choosing the right base within Menteng can significantly shape their overall experience, influencing everything from daily commutes to the local ambiance they immerse themselves in. Understanding these sub-districts is crucial for tailoring your stay to your preferences, whether you seek a bustling social scene, a tranquil retreat, or a convenient hub for exploration.

Jaksa Street

Jaksa Street and its surrounding lanes are synonymous with Menteng's backpacker and budget-friendly scene. This area pulses with a youthful energy, characterized by a dense concentration of hostels, guesthouses, and affordable eateries catering to travellers from around the globe. It’s a place where you can easily strike up conversations with fellow explorers, share travel tips, and soak in a lively, unpretentious atmosphere. For solo travellers or those on a tighter budget, Jaksa Street offers an immersive and social introduction to Jakarta.

This neighbourhood is a practical choice for those prioritizing cost-effectiveness and a vibrant social scene. You'll find numerous travel agencies offering tours and transport, alongside shops selling souvenirs and essentials. While not directly home to major landmarks like Mekanik 24 jam jakarta pusat or MOVI - Ministry Of Vape Indonesia, its central location means these are accessible via a short ride. Getting to Jaksa Street from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) typically involves a taxi or ride-hailing service, taking approximately 45-60 minutes depending on traffic.

Cikini

Cikini offers a more bohemian and artistic vibe, making it a favourite among creatives and those seeking a slightly more laid-back yet culturally rich environment. This area is dotted with art galleries, independent boutiques, and charming cafes, providing a relaxed counterpoint to the city's more frenetic pace. It attracts a crowd that appreciates a blend of local culture and contemporary urban cool, appealing particularly to European travellers interested in art and design, as well as younger Filipino travellers looking for trendy spots.

Cikini is a hub for cultural exploration, with numerous art spaces and historical sites. It's also a fantastic area to sample diverse Indonesian cuisine, from traditional warungs to modern fusion restaurants. Visitors can easily book attractions related to art and culture in this vicinity. Access from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) is via taxi or ride-hailing service, with a travel time of around 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Kebon Sirih

Kebon Sirih represents Menteng's more established and sophisticated side, often associated with business and government institutions. This area features a mix of modern office buildings, upscale hotels, and some of the district's more refined residential areas. It offers a sense of order and professionalism, making it a comfortable base for business travellers or those who prefer a quieter, more polished environment. The presence of international-standard hotels here also appeals to travellers seeking premium amenities and services.

While Kebon Sirih is primarily a business district, it offers convenient access to shopping centres and dining establishments. Its strategic position means that key landmarks and entertainment areas are within easy reach. For travellers arriving at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), Kebon Sirih is a relatively straightforward destination, typically reachable by taxi or ride-hailing service in about 45-60 minutes, making it a practical choice for those prioritizing efficient transit.

Menteng (Central)

The central Menteng area, often considered the heart of the district, is characterized by its wide, tree-lined boulevards, grand colonial-era houses, and numerous embassies and diplomatic residences. This neighbourhood exudes an air of old-world elegance and tranquility, offering a more upscale and residential feel. It’s an area that appeals to travellers seeking a peaceful retreat within the city, with a touch of historical grandeur, and is particularly suited for those who appreciate a more serene urban environment.

This part of Menteng is ideal for leisurely strolls, exploring its beautiful architecture, and enjoying the relative quiet. It’s also home to several parks and green spaces, offering a welcome respite from the urban bustle. While it may not have the immediate buzz of Jaksa Street, its central location provides good access to other parts of Menteng and Jakarta. From Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), reaching central Menteng typically takes 45-60 minutes by taxi or ride-hailing service, depending on traffic.

Gondangdia

Gondangdia serves as a dynamic intersection, blending residential pockets with commercial activity and offering a well-rounded Jakarta experience. It’s an area that feels lived-in and authentic, with a mix of local businesses, eateries, and community spaces. This neighbourhood is particularly appealing to travellers who want to experience a slice of everyday Jakarta life, away from the more tourist-focused zones, and it offers a good balance of convenience and local flavour, suiting those who enjoy exploring beyond the obvious.

Gondangdia is a practical base for exploring Menteng, offering good connectivity to other parts of the city. You’ll find a variety of local food stalls and restaurants here, providing an authentic taste of Indonesian cuisine. Its accessibility from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) is comparable to other central Menteng areas, with travel times around 45-60 minutes via taxi or ride-hailing service, making it a convenient and well-connected choice for many international visitors.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Menteng

Navigating the cultural landscape of Menteng requires an awareness of local customs to ensure respectful interactions. While Jakarta is a cosmopolitan city, Indonesia, in general, places a high value on politeness and respect, particularly towards elders. It's customary to greet people with a smile and a polite nod. When visiting religious sites or more traditional areas, dressing modestly, covering shoulders and knees, is advisable. Understanding these nuances will foster positive connections with the local community and enrich your travel experience.

When visiting specific landmarks like Mekanik 24 jam jakarta pusat or MOVI - Ministry Of Vape Indonesia, it's important to observe any posted rules regarding photography and behaviour. Generally, asking for permission before taking photos of individuals is a sign of respect. Queuing culture is present but can sometimes be less orderly than in Western countries; patience and politeness are key. For places like MOVI - Ministry Of Vape Indonesia, which might have a specific niche appeal, understanding the context of the establishment can help in appreciating the local scene.

For international travellers, safety in Menteng is generally good, especially in well-trafficked tourist areas. However, like any major city, it's wise to be vigilant about your belongings, particularly in crowded markets or on public transport. Utilizing reputable ride-hailing apps like Grab or Gojek is a safe and convenient way to get around, offering transparent pricing. It's also advisable to have offline maps downloaded and to keep your hotel address handy, especially if you're exploring unfamiliar parts of the district.

In case of emergencies, the general emergency number in Indonesia is 112. For specific needs, local police can be contacted through their stations. For Filipino travellers, the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta is located at Jl. Imam Bonjol No. 8, Jakarta Pusat, and can be a resource for consular assistance. It's always recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and to be aware of any advisories issued by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) before your trip.

Getting to Menteng and Getting Around

For Filipino travellers planning a trip to Menteng, the journey typically begins with a flight from major Philippine hubs like Manila (MNL), Cebu (CEB), or Clark (CRK) to Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK). While direct flights are less common, connecting routes through hubs like Singapore or Kuala Lumpur are readily available, with total travel times usually ranging from 6 to 10 hours. The estimated cost for a round-trip ticket can vary significantly, but budget around ₱ 15,000 to ₱ 25,000, depending on the season and booking time. Upon arrival at CGK, you can book flight connections or arrange for ground transport to Menteng.

Once you've arrived in Jakarta, reaching Menteng from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) is most conveniently done via taxi or ride-hailing services like Grab or Gojek. The journey typically takes between 45 to 60 minutes, depending heavily on Jakarta's notorious traffic conditions, and can cost approximately ₱ 150,000 to ₱ 250,000 (around USD 10-16). Within Menteng itself, getting around is relatively easy. Ride-hailing apps are ubiquitous and affordable for short to medium distances. For exploring specific neighbourhoods, walking is often the best way to discover lesser-known destinations, while local buses and the TransJakarta bus rapid transit system offer budget-friendly options for longer commutes.

The best time to visit Menteng generally aligns with Jakarta's dry season, which runs from June to September. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, making it ideal for exploring the city's outdoor attractions and enjoying its vibrant street life. While this period can be considered peak season, leading to slightly higher hotel prices, the weather is generally more pleasant for sightseeing. Shoulder seasons, such as April-May and October-November, can offer a good balance of favourable weather and fewer crowds, with potentially better deals on accommodation.

Before you depart for Menteng, ensure you have a few essentials sorted. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). While major hotels and some larger establishments may accept credit cards, it's always wise to carry some cash for street food, local markets, and smaller vendors. You can exchange currency at the airport or in the city. Purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival at CGK is highly recommended for easy access to data for navigation and communication. Essential apps to download include Google Maps, Grab/Gojek for transport, and a translation app.

Visa Information for Indonesia (Menteng)

For Philippine passport holders planning to visit Indonesia, including the Menteng district of Jakarta, visa requirements are generally straightforward. As of current regulations, Filipino citizens are typically granted visa-free entry for short stays, usually up to 30 days, for tourism purposes. This allows for a convenient and hassle-free arrival, provided your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay and you possess proof of onward travel, such as a return flight ticket. It is always prudent to confirm the latest visa policies with the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines before your travel dates.

The process for visa-free entry involves presenting your valid Philippine passport and potentially a return or onward ticket to immigration officials upon arrival at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK). While no visa fee is charged for this visa-exempt entry, ensure your passport has sufficient blank pages for entry and exit stamps. It is also advisable to carry some proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay, although this is not always rigorously checked for visa-free travellers. Adhering to the permitted length of stay is crucial to avoid any penalties or complications.

While visa-free entry is common for many nationalities, policies can change, and it is imperative for all travellers to verify the most up-to-date visa regulations directly with the official immigration authorities of Indonesia or the Indonesian Embassy in the Philippines. Confirming your entry requirements before booking flights is a recommended practice to ensure a smooth travel experience. This proactive approach will help you avoid any last-minute issues and allow you to focus on enjoying your trip to Menteng.
