10 out of 10 stars from us (coming from an Indonesian and a Dane)! This is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in so far in Indonesia. The style, interior, and design of the hotel are marvelous-from the lobby, hallway, restaurant, and the room too. It definitely has a colonial vibe, with elegant touches. The pool was so spectacular, overlooking the sea. There were not many guests during our stay, which I think was to our advantage, but this resort deserves a shout-out and better publicity! Breakfast was served ala carte and the taste and presentation were great. I mean, in our experience, not many hotels in Indonesia can do a great job in providing both tasty Indonesian and Western dishes. But Rumah Luwih proved that they can! This hotel also provides afternoon tea and you can just pay to swim there without staying, should these can be of any interest to you. We would definitely consider returning to this hotel next time we travel to Bali. Keep up the good work and maybe this resort can attract more guests if they have some live music or entertainment by the restaurant or lobby area.

This is first time we stay here after see the review from many resources. And we found ‘wow’ moment during our stay, 2 wonderful nights. Start from we arrived, warm welcoming from staff, was very sincere and good to know what we need. Quick check in process, arrange our car & luggages, as well as take us to the amazing villa, very smoothly. Most important thing is they intentionally put until detail things that we requested, which was very clean bed/pillow and also entire room, so my boy was very comfortable without having dust allergic. They also showing many times about sincere attention: what else that we need, is it need to clean the room, even they quickly replace my boy’s meal when we asked them due to a bit hot taste instead of plain taste. They also really care of my boy, and boy very happy to stay here. Unfortunately, we don't have much time to join interesting activities in here, but someday we must try at least 1 activity. Breakfast was awesome, either in cafe or in villa. Service was very good! When we checked out, also with high standard service to ensure we had smoothly process & happy feeling when leaving the villa. Thank you very much for everything you have done, we are satisfy with villa and service as well! Very high recommended villa!

More about hotels in Keramas

Keramas: Bali's Coastal Charm Beyond the Usual Tourist Trail

For travellers seeking a slice of Bali that offers both serene coastal beauty and vibrant local life, Keramas presents a compelling proposition. While Indonesia is a vast archipelago brimming with diverse destinations, Keramas, situated on Bali's southeastern coast, carves out its own niche. It’s a place where the rhythm of the ocean dictates the pace of life, offering a refreshing alternative to the more crowded tourist hubs. Here, you can experience the authentic spirit of Bali, from its spiritual traditions to its burgeoning surf scene, all within a landscape that feels both wild and welcoming.

The charm of Keramas lies in its distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a unique flavour of Balinese life. From the tranquil shores of Ketewel to the surf-centric vibes of Saba and the burgeoning appeal of Keramas itself, the area provides a spectrum of experiences. Ketewel often appeals to those seeking a quieter escape, with its lush landscapes and proximity to cultural sites. Saba, on the other hand, is known for its black sand beaches and a more laid-back, surf-oriented atmosphere. Keramas, the central hub, blends these elements, offering a growing array of accommodations and dining options that cater to international visitors.

Understanding the value proposition is key for international travellers, and Keramas shines in this regard. With an average starting price around ₱ 883.61 per night, it offers a significantly more accessible entry point into the Balinese experience compared to some of its more developed neighbours. For travellers from the US, Europe, and India, this translates into greater flexibility for longer stays or the ability to indulge in higher-quality accommodations and experiences without exceeding their budget. The presence of attractions like the Bali Safari Park and the Bali United Training Center also adds to its appeal as a destination offering diverse activities.

The accommodation landscape in Keramas is as varied as its coastline, with options ranging from intimate guest houses to luxurious villas. Ketewel, for instance, is home to several charming villas and resorts that provide a peaceful retreat, while Saba offers a more rustic, surf-friendly vibe with guesthouses and smaller hotels. Exploring these options allows travellers to tailor their stay to their preferences, whether they seek a private sanctuary or a more social atmosphere. For those ready to explore these diverse offerings, it's easy to book hotel rooms that fit their needs.

Keramas is a destination that speaks to a variety of international travellers. For those from the United States and Europe, it offers an authentic cultural immersion, a chance to connect with Balinese traditions and enjoy stunning natural beauty away from the masses. Indian travellers will find a familiar warmth and hospitality, with a range of budget-friendly to mid-range options that make extended stays feasible, alongside delicious local cuisine. While direct connections might be less common for African travellers, the allure of Bali's unique culture and the value offered by Keramas make it a worthwhile consideration for those exploring Southeast Asia.

Best Areas to Stay in Keramas

Keramas, while a specific region, encompasses distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a unique atmosphere and set of attractions for international visitors. Choosing where to base yourself within Keramas can significantly shape your entire Balinese experience, from the pace of your days to the ease of accessing local culture and natural beauty. Understanding these differences is crucial for first-time visitors aiming to find their perfect Balinese home away from home.

Ketewel

Ketewel offers a tranquil and somewhat secluded atmosphere, appealing to travellers seeking a peaceful escape from the more bustling parts of Bali. This area is characterized by its black sand beaches, lush rice paddies, and a slower pace of life, making it ideal for those who want to unwind and reconnect with nature. International visitors, particularly from Europe and North America, often gravitate towards Ketewel for its serene environment and the opportunity to experience a more authentic, less commercialized side of Bali.

From Ketewel, you can easily access the stunning Aishwarya Exclusive Villas, known for its luxurious amenities and beautiful surroundings. The area is also a good starting point for exploring local temples and enjoying the natural beauty of the coastline. Getting to Ketewel from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) typically involves a scenic drive of about 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic. While public transport is limited, taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available for exploring the wider region.

Saba

Saba is a neighbourhood that resonates with surfers and those who appreciate a more rugged, natural coastline. Its black sand beaches are renowned for their consistent waves, attracting a crowd that enjoys an active, beach-centric lifestyle. The vibe here is more laid-back and less developed than some other Balinese locales, offering a genuine glimpse into local life. Travellers from Australia, and indeed any surf enthusiast from around the globe, will find Saba a welcoming base.

Ayers Hotel&Resto, a well-regarded 3-star option, is located in Saba, offering a comfortable stay with good amenities. The area is also close to the Bali Safari Park, providing a fantastic day trip option for families. For those looking to explore the diverse activities Bali has to offer, Saba serves as a convenient launchpad. You can easily book attractions and tours from here, making it a practical choice for adventure seekers.

Keramas

Keramas itself, the namesake of the region, is emerging as a dynamic destination that balances its natural beauty with a growing infrastructure for tourism. It's known for its world-class surf breaks, particularly for intermediate to advanced surfers, and its stunning beachfront resorts. This area attracts a mix of travellers, from surf enthusiasts to families looking for upscale accommodations and couples seeking a romantic escape. Its central location also makes it a convenient base for exploring other parts of Gianyar.

The Keramas area is home to several high-end resorts and villas, including the luxurious Rumah Luwih Bali and Desa Swan Villas & SPA, Keramas, offering exceptional service and amenities. Visitors can enjoy beachfront dining, spa treatments, and water sports. The drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) to Keramas is approximately 40-50 minutes, making it relatively accessible. The area’s development means a good selection of restaurants and shops are also within easy reach.

Gianyar (as a broader context for Keramas)

While Keramas is a specific area, it falls under the larger Gianyar Regency, which is known as Bali's artistic heartland. Staying within the broader Gianyar context, which includes Keramas, Ketewel, and Saba, allows visitors to immerse themselves in Balinese culture, art, and traditional crafts. This region is less about mass tourism and more about experiencing the island's soul, making it attractive to travellers seeking cultural depth and artistic inspiration, particularly those from Europe and North America.

Within Gianyar, you'll find a wealth of cultural experiences, from traditional dance performances to artisan workshops. The region is dotted with temples, art galleries, and craft villages. For accommodation, you can find everything from charming homestays to luxurious resorts like Komaneka at Keramas Beach, which offers a high-end experience. From succulent satays to fragrant rice dishes and vibrant tropical fruits, the flavours of Keramas are an integral part of the travel experience, offering a delicious journey for the palate that is distinct from other Indonesian regions.

For an authentic taste of Keramas, exploring local warungs (small, family-run eateries) and markets is highly recommended. Areas around Ketewel and Saba often have hidden culinary gems where you can sample dishes like Nasi Goreng (fried rice) or Mie Goreng (fried noodles) prepared with local flair. For Muslim travellers, finding Halal-certified eateries is generally straightforward in Bali, as many establishments are mindful of dietary needs, and local dishes are often naturally Halal. Look for signs indicating Halal preparation or inquire with staff.

Dining in Keramas offers a range of price points, making it accessible for various budgets. Street food and local warungs can offer delicious meals for as little as ₱ 50-150 (approximately $1-3 USD), providing incredible value. Mid-range restaurants might charge between ₱ 200-500 (approximately $4-10 USD) per person for a meal, while more upscale dining experiences at resorts or specialized restaurants can range from ₱ 700-1500 (approximately $14-30 USD) or more. Meals are often enjoyed at a leisurely pace, and it's polite to wait for your host or the eldest person at the table to begin eating. Using your right hand to eat is customary, especially when dining in more traditional settings. Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Keramas

Understanding local customs is key to a respectful and enriching visit to Keramas. Balinese culture is deeply rooted in Hinduism, and this influences daily life, from religious ceremonies to social interactions. While Keramas is generally more relaxed than some of Bali's busier tourist hubs, it's important to dress modestly when visiting temples or rural villages, covering shoulders and knees. Public displays of affection should be kept to a minimum, and it's considered polite to use your right hand when giving or receiving items.

When visiting specific landmarks or accommodations like Aishwarya Exclusive Villas or Ayers Hotel&Resto, observe any posted rules regarding photography, especially in private areas or during ceremonies. Entry to temples usually requires a sarong, which is often available for rent or provided by the accommodation. While queuing is not always strictly observed, patience and politeness are appreciated. Being mindful of these nuances will foster positive interactions with locals and contribute to a more harmonious travel experience.

Practical safety in Keramas is generally good, but standard precautions apply. Keep valuables secure and avoid displaying large amounts of cash. For transportation, ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and offer a convenient and relatively safe way to get around, often more so than unmetered taxis. It's advisable to have a local SIM card for easy access to these services and for navigation. Familiarizing yourself with offline maps can also be helpful in areas with spotty internet connectivity.

For Filipino travellers, it's important to know emergency contact numbers. In Indonesia, the general emergency number is 112. For specific assistance, local police can be reached, and it's wise to have the contact details for the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta or the Consulate General in Denpasar readily available. Considering travel insurance is also a prudent step, covering potential medical emergencies or unforeseen events. Staying informed about any advisories from the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is also recommended before your trip.
