A hotel in the heart of Singkawang's market district, close to coffee shops, the Hong Kong Market, and a variety of culinary delights. Breakfast is also delicious, just a short walk away. The hotel boasts a vintage feel and furnishings, yet is well maintained. It feels like home. The hotel staff are very friendly and responsive. The rooms are clean, with cool air conditioning and clean, flowing water. The hotel grounds are also cleaned regularly. On the 2nd and 3rd floors, there is a balcony in front of the rooms, so you can relax outside and enjoy the view of Singkawang. Children also enjoy watching the odong-odong (traditional musical instrument) passing by. For those who don't like noise, you can choose a room in the hallway. Navigating the dining scene in West Singkawang is a rewarding experience, but a few practical tips can enhance your enjoyment. Meal times are generally similar to Western schedules, though locals may eat more frequently throughout the day. Tipping is not customary in most local eateries, but a small gesture of appreciation for exceptional service is always welcome. It's advisable to try local specialties and be open to new flavours. Learning a few basic Indonesian phrases can also greatly assist in ordering and interacting with restaurant staff.

Local Etiquette & Safety in West Singkawang

Understanding and respecting local customs is key to a smooth and enjoyable visit to West Singkawang. While Indonesians are generally known for their politeness and hospitality, being aware of certain etiquette norms can prevent misunderstandings. For instance, it's customary to use your right hand when giving or receiving items, as the left hand is considered unclean. When visiting homes or more traditional establishments, it's polite to remove your shoes before entering. A friendly smile and a respectful demeanor go a long way in fostering positive interactions.

When visiting prominent landmarks like the Singkawang Grand Mall or the Singkawang Cultural Center, maintaining a respectful attitude is important. Dress modestly, especially when visiting cultural sites; covering shoulders and knees is advisable. Photography is usually permitted, but it's always courteous to ask for permission before taking pictures of individuals, particularly locals engaged in daily activities or religious practices. Queueing is generally orderly, and patience is appreciated in busy areas.

For international travellers, safety in West Singkawang is comparable to many other tourist destinations in Southeast Asia. It's wise to be mindful of your belongings, especially in crowded markets or public transport, and to use reputable taxi services or ride-hailing apps like Grab. While petty theft can occur, violent crime is rare. It's also recommended to stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and be cautious with street food if you have a sensitive stomach. Familiarising yourself with offline maps and essential travel apps can also be very helpful for navigation.

In case of emergencies, local police can be reached at 110. For medical assistance, contact the nearest hospital or clinic. Filipino travellers should note that the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta is the primary diplomatic mission, though local consulates may be available for specific services. It is always prudent to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and unforeseen events. Checking the latest travel advisories from the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) before your trip is also a recommended safety measure.

Visa Information for Indonesia

For Philippine passport holders planning to visit West Singkawang, understanding the visa requirements for Indonesia is crucial. As of current regulations, Philippine citizens are typically granted visa-free entry into Indonesia for short stays, usually up to 30 days, for tourism purposes. This allows for a convenient and straightforward entry process, eliminating the need for a pre-arranged visa for most tourist visits. It is always recommended to confirm the latest visa policies with official Indonesian immigration sources before your travel dates.

The visa-free entry for Filipinos generally requires a passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay and proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket. While no visa fee is charged for this visa-free facility, travellers may be asked to present proof of sufficient funds to cover their expenses during their stay. The immigration officers at the point of entry have the final discretion on granting entry. It is essential to adhere to the permitted length of stay to avoid any penalties or complications.

While visa-free entry is common, policies can change, and it is the traveller's responsibility to verify the most up-to-date information. Before booking your flight, it is highly recommended to check the official website of the Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration or contact the Indonesian Embassy in the Philippines for the latest visa regulations and any specific requirements that may apply to your nationality or travel purpose. This proactive approach ensures a smooth and hassle-free journey to West Singkawang.

Overall, it was satisfying. The location is in the center of the city. The parking lot is quite big. The view was very nice, the water was fresh, the food was various and delicious, and especially the time for breakfast was so sharp. The receptionists and workers were friendly and fast response. The things missed from this place were the price and maintenance. It was quite pricy for ⭐⭐⭐ old hotel. The bedroom was not suit with the picture, and also quite dirty. The sink and shower were broken. There was no mini fridge inside. Extra bed costed 200k. Sorry for not taking picture of the bedroom. The pool was also quite dirty. Hopefully, it will improve or at least maintain its quality. Thank you so much🙏🤗
