The hotel staff was very friendly and attended to our needs promptly. We were upgraded to a larger and nicer room at no additional cost due to renovations being carried out on the room we booked. The views are also stunning, with a wide selection of rooms and meals, and a hot tub. Overall, it was a great experience and I was very satisfied.

BEST! The design is so cute and clean! There's also a public pool, with two pools: one cold and one warm. The detail in the bathroom, where the shower floor is lowered, is a huge plus. The sheets are also cool and comfortable. I'll be back if I go to Kintamani again!

Really like Skylake. Came here with my family. The staff is super helpful and friendly. Met Ms. Yuli who helped me during check-in, I asked for this and that and she still helped me. During checkout, Ms. Suci helped me, took great photos and videos. Thank you. One night but it was truly memorable. The view is very beautiful, they try very hard to maintain cleanliness, even though the flies are impossible to prevent. The jacuzzi is very comfortable 😭 Warm water, can soak until night. Thank you Skylake for the experience ❤️ Oh yeah, maybe the breakfast can be varied again. The kids ate all their breakfast 😆

This was my second time staying at Villa Dangka Kintamani, and it certainly won’t be my last. This time, we booked 6 rooms for our group, and everything was absolutely perfect. The villa is incredibly cozy, but what truly makes this place special is the owner—who is genuinely kind and goes above and beyond for the guests. Since Kintamani can get quite chilly, the hot spring pool was a total lifesaver and a wonderful way to relax. If you’re looking for comfort and great hospitality, this is the place to be!

The staff was really friendly and helpful, the cabin was very unique, made from bamboo, very beautiful view especially during the sunrise, followed by relaxing in the jacuzzi while seeing the amazing view of volcanoes and Batur Lake, really good place to escape from your routine and get closer to nature. They can help you arrange for your activities, providing the transport and guide for nearby attractions. My favorite food is sop ikan, it's really delicious, breakfast also very good. Thanks again to all the staff, my stay wouldn't be perfect without their amazing service🙏 Tips: bring insect repellent

For travellers seeking an authentic Indonesian experience beyond the usual tourist trails, Bangli offers a compelling alternative. This highland region in Bali, Indonesia, presents a unique blend of natural beauty, spiritual tranquility, and cultural depth that resonates with international visitors. Unlike the bustling coastal resorts, Bangli invites a slower pace, allowing for genuine connection with the landscape and local life. Its volcanic vistas, serene crater lakes, and ancient temples provide a backdrop for exploration that feels both adventurous and deeply peaceful, a stark contrast to the more developed areas of the island.

Within Bangli itself, a remarkable diversity of environments awaits. The Kintamani area, for instance, is renowned for its breathtaking views of Mount Batur and Lake Batur, drawing visitors who seek dramatic natural scenery and outdoor activities. Further afield, areas like Toya Bungkah offer access to natural hot springs and a more laid-back atmosphere, perfect for relaxation. This geographical variation means that where you choose to base yourself in Bangli significantly shapes your entire travel experience, from the activities available to the overall ambiance of your stay.

Bangli stands out as an exceptional value destination for international travellers. With starting prices around ₱ 565.52 per night, it offers incredible affordability without compromising on the quality of experience. The region's focus on nature, temples, and mountains means that many of its prime attractions are accessible and relatively inexpensive. For travellers from the US, Europe, and India, Bangli presents an opportunity to experience Indonesia's rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes at a fraction of the cost typically associated with similar destinations elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

The accommodation landscape in Bangli mirrors its diverse appeal. Properties like the highly-rated EL LAGO HOTEL in Kintamani offer a comfortable retreat with excellent amenities, while the unique setting of Pinggan Everest Bali provides a more intimate connection with the surrounding environment. These establishments, alongside many others, cater to a range of preferences and budgets, ensuring that every international visitor can find a suitable base. Through Traveloka, you can easily book hotel options that perfectly match your desired experience in this captivating region.

Bangli's allure spans across various international markets. For American travellers, it offers an off-the-beaten-path adventure with stunning natural landscapes. European visitors often appreciate the region's cultural and historical significance, with its numerous temples and traditional villages providing a glimpse into Balinese life. Indian travellers will find Bangli to be a budget-friendly destination with familiar hospitality nuances and delicious food options. While direct travel from Africa might be less common, the region's natural beauty and spiritual atmosphere hold universal appeal for those seeking a tranquil escape.

Best Areas to Stay in Bangli

Bangli, while a region rather than a single city, is comprised of distinct neighbourhoods and districts, each offering a unique flavour and set of experiences for international visitors. Understanding these areas is crucial for crafting an itinerary that aligns with your travel style, whether you prioritize dramatic volcanic views, serene lakeside relaxation, or cultural immersion. Choosing the right base within Bangli can transform your trip, providing convenient access to key attractions and shaping the overall ambiance of your stay.

Kintamani

Kintamani is arguably the most iconic area within Bangli, primarily known for its spectacular panoramic views of Mount Batur, an active volcano, and the vast, serene Lake Batur. This region offers a dramatic, almost otherworldly landscape that captivates visitors from around the globe. Travellers seeking dramatic natural scenery, hiking opportunities, and a cooler highland climate will find Kintamani particularly appealing. Its elevated position provides a refreshing escape from the coastal heat, making it a favoured spot for those who appreciate grand vistas and outdoor adventures.

From Kintamani, you have direct access to the Mount Batur caldera, a popular destination for sunrise treks and exploring the volcanic terrain. The lake itself offers opportunities for boat trips and visiting lakeside villages. Many accommodations here provide stunning views, allowing you to enjoy the scenery from your room or balcony. Getting to Kintamani from Denpasar International Airport (DPS) typically involves a scenic drive of about 1.5 to 2 hours, with private car hire being the most convenient option. For those looking to explore the natural wonders, you can easily book attractions like guided treks or boat tours.

Toya Bungkah

located on the shores of Lake Batur, Toya Bungkah offers a more tranquil and water-centric experience compared to the higher vantage points of Kintamani. This village is particularly famous for its natural hot springs, providing a perfect setting for relaxation and rejuvenation amidst stunning natural beauty. The vibe here is laid-back, with a focus on wellness and enjoying the serene lakeside environment. It appeals to travellers looking to unwind, soak in therapeutic waters, and enjoy a slower pace of life, away from the more active trekking crowds.

The main draw in Toya Bungkah is undoubtedly the natural hot springs, where visitors can soak in mineral-rich waters with views of the lake and surrounding mountains. It's also a starting point for some Mount Batur treks, though often less crowded than Kintamani. Local eateries offer fresh fish from the lake and traditional Indonesian fare. Access to Toya Bungkah is similar to Kintamani, involving a drive from the airport, and it's often combined with a stay in the broader Kintamani region. This area is suited to travellers who want a peaceful retreat with therapeutic benefits.

Pinggan Village

Pinggan Village, situated within the Kintamani highlands, offers a more rustic and authentic glimpse into rural Balinese life, often characterized by its sweeping rice paddies and traditional village structures. It provides a quieter alternative to the main Kintamani tourist hub, appealing to travellers seeking a more immersive cultural experience and a closer connection to the local community. The landscape here is picturesque, with rolling hills and distant volcanic views, offering a sense of peace and seclusion that is highly sought after by international visitors.

This village is an excellent base for exploring the less-trodden paths around Mount Batur and Lake Batur, offering opportunities for village walks and interacting with local farmers. It’s a great spot for photography enthusiasts who appreciate the natural beauty and traditional architecture. While dining options might be simpler, they offer genuine local flavours. Pinggan Village is best reached by private car from the airport, and its charm lies in its simplicity and the genuine hospitality of its residents, making it suitable for cultural explorers and those seeking tranquility.

Batur

The area around Batur, encompassing the caldera and its immediate surroundings, is central to the region's natural wonders, most notably Mount Batur and Lake Batur. This district is a magnet for adventure seekers and nature lovers, offering unparalleled access to hiking trails, volcanic landscapes, and the expansive lake. The atmosphere here is dynamic, driven by the allure of outdoor activities and the raw beauty of the volcanic terrain. It’s a prime location for those who want to be at the heart of the region's most famous natural attractions.

This district is the primary gateway for the popular Mount Batur sunrise trek, a must-do for many visitors. Lake Batur itself provides opportunities for swimming, kayaking, and visiting local fishing villages. The region also boasts natural hot springs, particularly in areas like Toya Bungkah. Accommodations range from simple guesthouses to more established hotels, many offering direct views of the volcano or lake. Its strategic position makes it ideal for travellers prioritizing adventure and direct access to the iconic natural landmarks of Bangli.

What to Eat and Where to Find It in Bangli

Bangli's culinary landscape is deeply rooted in Indonesian traditions, offering a delightful array of flavours that reflect its highland setting and cultural heritage. A must-try dish is Babi Guling, a whole roasted suckling pig, a Balinese specialty that is rich and flavourful, often served with rice and various side dishes. Another local favourite is Bebek Betutu, slow-cooked duck or chicken seasoned with a complex blend of spices, wrapped in banana leaves, and roasted or smoked to perfection. For those seeking vegetarian options, Lawar, a traditional mix of vegetables, coconut, and spices, is widely available and can be prepared with or without meat.

For an authentic dining experience, exploring the local markets and warungs (small, family-run eateries) is highly recommended. In Kintamani, you'll find numerous restaurants offering stunning views of Mount Batur and Lake Batur, many serving fresh fish from the lake and traditional Balinese dishes. For Muslim travellers, seeking out Halal-certified eateries is important. While Bali is predominantly Hindu, many restaurants in tourist areas and larger towns will offer Halal options, and it's advisable to look for the Halal certification mark or inquire directly. Street food stalls also offer a variety of local snacks and meals, providing a true taste of Indonesian street cuisine.

The cost of dining in Bangli offers excellent value for international travellers. Street food and meals at local warungs can be incredibly affordable, often costing as little as ₱ 50 to ₱ 150 per person for a substantial meal. Mid-range restaurants, particularly those with scenic views in Kintamani, might charge between ₱ 300 to ₱ 700 per person for a main course and drink. Upscale dining experiences are less common in Bangli compared to more developed tourist hubs, but where available, expect to pay around ₱ 800 to ₱ 1,500 or more for a multi-course meal. This affordability allows travellers to sample a wide variety of local dishes without significant budget strain.

When dining in Bangli, understanding local customs enhances the experience. It's customary to eat with your right hand, especially when dining at warungs or from communal dishes, though utensils are readily available in most restaurants. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, typically around 5-10% of the bill. Meal times are generally flexible, with lunch being the main meal of the day, often enjoyed between 12 PM and 2 PM. Be open to trying new flavours and don't hesitate to ask for recommendations from your server; they are usually happy to guide you through the menu.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Bangli

Understanding local etiquette is key to a respectful and enjoyable visit to Bangli. As in most of Indonesia, politeness and humility are highly valued. When visiting temples or traditional villages, dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees; sarongs are often available for rent or provided at temple entrances. It's considered polite to use your right hand for giving and receiving items, and avoid pointing with your index finger, instead using an open hand. Public displays of affection should be kept to a minimum. Observing these customs demonstrates respect for the local culture and will be greatly appreciated by the community.

When visiting natural landmarks like Mount Batur or the shores of Lake Batur, it's important to be mindful of local customs and environmental respect. While trekking Mount Batur, especially for sunrise, follow designated paths to prevent erosion and ensure safety. Guides are often recommended and can provide insights into local beliefs associated with the mountain. At temples, maintain a quiet and respectful demeanor. Photography is generally permitted, but always ask for permission before taking close-up photos of people, especially elders or during ceremonies. Respecting these guidelines ensures the preservation of the sites and the cultural integrity of the region.

Safety in Bangli is generally good, but as with any travel, it's wise to take precautions. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, particularly in crowded markets or during popular activities. For transportation, while ride-hailing apps like Grab are available in some parts of Bali, they may have limited coverage in more remote areas of Bangli. Negotiate taxi fares before starting your journey or opt for hotels that offer reliable transport services. It's also advisable to have a local SIM card for easier communication and access to navigation apps, which can be purchased at the airport or in local shops.

In case of emergencies, the general emergency number in Indonesia is 112. For specific tourist assistance, local police numbers can be found through your accommodation. The nearest Philippine Embassy is located in Jakarta, and the Consulate General is in Denpasar, Bali, which can provide assistance to Filipino citizens abroad. It is highly recommended for all travellers to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and unforeseen events. For Filipino travellers, checking the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) website for any travel advisories before departure is also a prudent step.

Getting to Bangli and Getting Around

Reaching Bangli from the Philippines involves flying into Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar, as there are no direct flights to Bangli itself. Travellers from Manila (MNL), Cebu (CEB), or other Philippine hubs will typically find connecting flights through major Asian hubs like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, or Hong Kong.

The total flight time, including layovers, can range from 8 to 15 hours, with costs varying significantly based on the season and booking time, but generally falling between ₱ 15,000 to ₱ 30,000 for a round trip. From DPS, Bangli is approximately a 1.5 to 2-hour drive, best managed via pre-booked private car or airport transfer services to ensure a smooth journey to your accommodation. You can book flight options that best suit your schedule and budget on Traveloka.

Once you are in Bangli, getting around the region requires some planning. Public transportation within Bangli is limited, especially for reaching specific natural attractions or more remote villages. Taxis and ride-hailing services like Grab may be available in the main tourist areas like Kintamani, but their reach can be inconsistent. The most practical and recommended way to explore Bangli is by hiring a private car with a driver for the day or for your entire stay. This offers flexibility, comfort, and the ability to visit multiple sites, including Mount Batur and Lake Batur, at your own pace. Scooter rental is also an option for experienced riders, but roads can be challenging.

The best time to visit Bangli is generally during the dry season, which runs from April to September. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking Mount Batur or exploring the landscapes around Lake Batur. While this period is also the peak tourist season, meaning potentially larger crowds and slightly higher prices, the weather is most conducive to sightseeing. The shoulder months of April-May and September-October can offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer tourists. The wet season, from October to March, brings higher rainfall, which can impact outdoor plans.

Before you depart for Bangli, ensure you have a few essentials sorted. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). While major hotels and some restaurants may accept credit cards, it's wise to carry cash for smaller establishments, markets, and local transport. ATMs are available in larger towns, but it's good to have some cash on hand. Consider purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival at DPS airport for affordable data and local calls, which will be invaluable for navigation and communication. Essential apps include Google Maps, a translation app, and ride-hailing apps if available in your chosen area.

Visa Information

For Philippine passport holders planning to visit Bangli, which is located in Indonesia, understanding the visa requirements is crucial. As of current regulations, Philippine passport holders are generally granted visa-free entry into Indonesia for short stays, typically up to 30 days. This allows for convenient travel for tourism purposes. It is essential to ensure your Philippine passport has at least six months of validity remaining from your intended date of entry into Indonesia. While visa-free, it is always recommended to check the latest immigration policies with the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines before your trip, as regulations can change.

The application process for visa-free entry is straightforward, requiring only a valid Philippine passport with sufficient remaining validity. While no specific visa fee is charged for this visa-free facility, travellers may be asked to show proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket, and sometimes proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay. These requirements are standard for many international travel destinations and help immigration officials confirm that visitors intend to leave the country within the permitted timeframe. Having these documents readily available will ensure a smooth immigration process upon arrival in Indonesia.

While visa-free entry is a significant convenience, policies can be subject to change. Therefore, it is strongly advised for all travellers to verify the most current visa regulations directly with the official immigration authority of Indonesia or the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate in the Philippines well in advance of booking flights or making travel arrangements. Confirming your entry requirements ensures a hassle-free journey to Bangli and avoids any last-minute complications. This proactive approach is essential for all international travel planning. cheap hotels
