Great location and very near Odori Park. But I think the highlight for me was the Breakfast Buffet. Probably one of the best breakfast buffets in Japan. I loved the eggs benedict with smoked salmon and the katsu burger. The best. Will definitely book this hotel again.

Spacious room for Japan, everything needed is there, connected to Sapporo or Odori station via underground. Very pleasant. We got a room with a view of the hotel garden and there is a small pool. The window can be opened. The bed is comfortable and big enough for two. The staff is very friendly. The price is cheap for the size of the room and the facilities. The best. Don't hesitate to choose this hotel.

More about hotels in Kita

Discover Kita: A Gateway to Japan's Northern Charms

For travellers from the Philippines seeking an authentic Japanese experience beyond the usual tourist trails, Kita offers a compelling blend of urban convenience and access to Hokkaido's stunning natural beauty. While Japan is renowned for its efficient transport and rich cultural heritage, Kita, as a significant district within Sapporo, provides a unique entry point to this northern island. It’s a place where you can experience the pulse of a modern city while remaining close to serene landscapes, making it an ideal destination for those looking for a balanced itinerary that caters to both exploration and relaxation.

Kita itself is not a monolithic entity; it's a dynamic region with distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a different flavour of Sapporo life. From the bustling commercial hubs to quieter residential pockets, understanding these variations is key to crafting your perfect stay. For instance, areas like Sapporo Station offer unparalleled transit convenience, while districts closer to Odori Park provide a more central, accessible urban experience. Nakajimakun, on the other hand, might offer a glimpse into a more local, perhaps residential, side of the city. This internal diversity means your choice of where to base yourself in Kita can significantly shape your entire trip.

When considering value for international travellers, Kita presents an attractive proposition. While specific pricing for N/A/night is not provided, Japan generally offers a range of accommodation options. For travellers from the Philippines, where the exchange rate can make international travel costs fluctuate, Kita's potential for offering competitive rates compared to more established tourist hotspots in Japan is a significant draw. This allows for a more extended stay or the allocation of more budget towards experiencing local cuisine and activities, making it a smart choice for budget-conscious explorers.

The accommodation landscape in Kita reflects this diversity, offering options for every preference and budget. From the practicalities of the Tabist Hokkaido Daiichi Hotel Sapporo, a 2-star establishment known for its spa and picnic area, to the more upscale Art Inn 24 Sapporo, a 5-star property boasting a fitness center, spa, and bar, the range is evident. These hotels serve as excellent starting points for understanding the type of stays available, whether you're looking for essential comfort or a touch of luxury. You can easily book hotel rooms that suit your needs.

Ultimately, Kita is a destination that appeals to a broad spectrum of international travellers. For US and European visitors, it offers a gateway to Japan's unique culture, with opportunities for both urban exploration and natural excursions. Indian travellers will find excellent value, good connectivity, and a diverse culinary scene to explore. While direct regional proximity might be less of a factor for African travellers, the allure of Japan's distinct culture, advanced infrastructure, and the specific charm of Hokkaido makes Kita a worthwhile consideration for any global adventurer seeking a memorable journey.

Best Areas to Stay in Kita

Kita, while a district within Sapporo, is comprised of several distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a unique atmosphere and set of amenities. For international visitors, understanding these areas is crucial as it directly impacts your travel experience, from proximity to attractions to the overall vibe of your stay. Choosing the right base within Kita can transform your trip from ordinary to exceptional, ensuring you're well-positioned to explore the best of what this part of Japan has to offer.

Kita

The central Kita district itself serves as a primary hub, offering a dynamic urban environment that appeals to travellers who enjoy being in the thick of things. It's a place where modern city life meets accessible Japanese culture, making it a comfortable base for first-time visitors. This area is particularly well-suited for travellers from the Philippines and other parts of Asia who appreciate convenience and a lively atmosphere, with many hotels and amenities readily available.

Within the Kita district, you'll find a good mix of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Its proximity to major transport links makes it easy to explore further afield. For those interested in local experiences, exploring the smaller streets can reveal hidden culinary delights. Getting to Kita from New Chitose Airport (CTS), the main gateway to Hokkaido, typically involves a train journey of about 40-50 minutes, placing you directly in the heart of the city.

Sapporo

While "Sapporo" is a broader designation, it encompasses areas within Kita that are highly sought after by international visitors. These areas often centre around major transit points like Sapporo Station or popular urban parks like Odori Park, offering a blend of commercial activity and green spaces. This makes it an attractive base for travellers from the US and Europe who appreciate well-organized cities with plenty of amenities and cultural attractions within easy reach.

Staying in the Sapporo-centric parts of Kita means you're never far from key landmarks and excellent dining. Areas around Odori Park, for instance, are known for their seasonal festivals and vibrant atmosphere, with a high review score of 8.8 from 13 reviews for nearby attractions. From here, you can easily access a wide array of local eateries and shops. The convenience of public transport from these central locations allows for effortless exploration, and you can easily book attractions to fill your itinerary.

Nakajimakun

Nakajimakun, often associated with the Chuo Ward, offers a slightly different perspective within the broader Kita region. It can present a more residential feel, yet still provides access to urban conveniences and a sense of local life. This area might appeal to travellers from India or those seeking a slightly less tourist-centric experience, offering a chance to see a more everyday side of Sapporo while still being well-connected to the city's main attractions.

This neighbourhood provides a good balance for those who want to be close to the city's pulse but also appreciate a quieter environment. You might find more local eateries and smaller shops here, offering a more intimate glimpse into Sapporo's culture. Its accessibility from the city centre means that while it feels a bit removed, you're still only a short transit ride away from major sights and transport hubs, making it a practical choice for extended stays.

Susukino

Kita, as part of Sapporo, is a culinary delight, offering a diverse range of flavours that reflect Hokkaido's rich agricultural and seafood bounty. For international visitors, especially those from the Philippines, exploring the local food scene is a highlight. Signature dishes like Miso Ramen, a hearty noodle soup, and Genghis Khan, grilled lamb, are must-tries. Hokkaido is also famous for its fresh seafood, including crab, scallops, and sea urchin, often served in sushi or sashimi form, providing a taste of the ocean's finest.

When it comes to dining locations, the neighbourhoods mentioned in Section 2 offer varied experiences. Susukino, for instance, is a vibrant district packed with restaurants, izakayas (Japanese pubs), and bars, perfect for evening exploration. Areas around Sapporo Station and Odori Park also provide numerous dining options, from casual eateries to more refined establishments. For Muslim travellers, finding Halal-certified restaurants might require some research, but many establishments are becoming more accommodating, and looking for vegetarian or seafood options can be a good strategy.

The cost of dining in Kita offers good value, especially when compared to major international cities. Street food and casual ramen shops might cost around ₱300-₱600 per person. Mid-range restaurants offering set meals or izakaya fare could range from ₱1,000-₱2,500 per person. High-end dining, particularly for fresh seafood or multi-course kaiseki meals, can go upwards of ₱5,000 per person. This pricing structure allows travellers from the US, Europe, and India to enjoy a variety of culinary experiences without excessive spending.

Navigating dining etiquette in Kita is straightforward for most international visitors. Tipping is not customary in Japan; excellent service is standard. It's polite to say "Itadakimasu" before eating and "Gochisosama deshita" after finishing your meal. While many restaurants have English menus, having a translation app handy can be useful. Be mindful of noise levels in restaurants, and always wait to be seated. Enjoying the local cuisine is a key part of the travel experience, so embrace the opportunity to try new dishes.

Local Etiquette & Safety in Kita

Understanding local etiquette is key to a smooth and respectful visit to Kita. Japanese culture places a high value on politeness, consideration for others, and orderliness. This translates into customs like quiet behaviour on public transport, queuing patiently, and removing shoes before entering homes or certain establishments. While tourist-facing areas are generally accustomed to international visitors, observing and respecting these norms will greatly enhance your interactions and overall experience in Kita.

When visiting popular landmarks, such as those that might have garnered an 8.8 from 13 reviews, it's important to be mindful of local customs. Dress codes are generally relaxed in most tourist spots, but modest attire is appreciated, especially when visiting temples or shrines. Photography is usually permitted, but always check for signs indicating otherwise. Entering establishments often involves a slight bow or a polite greeting. Respecting personal space and avoiding loud conversations are also important aspects of Japanese social etiquette.

Safety in Kita is generally very high, with low crime rates making it a secure destination for all travellers, including those from the Philippines. Standard precautions like keeping valuables secure and being aware of your surroundings are always advisable, especially in crowded areas. Public transportation is reliable and safe. For navigation, apps like Google Maps are excellent. Ride-sharing services are available, though local taxi services are also efficient and widely used. Emergency services are prompt and well-organized.

In case of emergencies, the general emergency number in Japan is 110 for police and 119 for fire and ambulance. For Filipino travellers, it's advisable to have the contact details for the Philippine Embassy in Japan readily available. While there isn't a Philippine Consulate in Sapporo itself, the embassy in Tokyo can provide assistance. It's also wise to consider travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, as healthcare costs can be significant. Staying informed about any advisories from the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) before your trip is also recommended.

Travel Guide to Kita

For travellers from the Philippines planning a trip to Kita, the journey typically begins with a flight to New Chitose Airport (CTS), Sapporo's main gateway. While direct flights from Manila (MNL) or Cebu (CEB) might be limited, connecting flights through major Asian hubs like Seoul (ICN), Tokyo (NRT/HND), or Taipei (TPE) are common. Flight durations can range from 8 to 12 hours or more, depending on the layover. Booking your book flight in advance, especially during peak seasons, is recommended for better fares. From CTS, the JR Rapid Airport train offers a convenient and efficient transfer to Sapporo Station in about 40 minutes.

Getting around Kita and Sapporo is made easy by an excellent public transportation system. The Sapporo Municipal Subway is the primary mode of transport for tourists, with several lines connecting key areas. Buses are also extensive, covering routes not reached by the subway. For travellers staying in areas like Kita or near Sapporo Station, purchasing a day pass for the subway can be cost-effective if you plan on multiple journeys. Taxis are readily available but can be more expensive. The cost for a subway ride typically ranges from ₱80 to ₱250, making it an affordable way to explore.

The best time to visit Kita largely depends on what you wish to experience. Summer (June to August) offers pleasant temperatures, ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's parks, with average highs around 20-25°C. Autumn (September to November) brings beautiful fall foliage and crisp air. Winter (December to February) is famous for its snow festivals and winter sports, with temperatures dropping well below freezing. Spring (March to May) sees the cherry blossoms, though they bloom later in Hokkaido than in mainland Japan. Shoulder seasons like late spring and early autumn often provide a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

Before departing for Kita, ensure you have your passport with at least six months of validity remaining. The local currency is the Japanese Yen (JPY). While credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, larger stores, and restaurants, carrying some cash is advisable for smaller shops, local markets, and transport. Purchasing a local SIM card or pocket Wi-Fi device at the airport or in the city is recommended for staying connected. Essential apps include Google Maps for navigation, Google Translate for communication, and potentially a local transport app.

Visa Information for Japan (to visit Kita)

For Philippine passport holders planning to visit Japan, including the Kita region, visa requirements are a crucial consideration. As of current regulations, Philippine citizens are generally required to obtain a visa to enter Japan for tourism or business purposes. The standard tourist visa allows for a stay of up to 90 days. The application process involves submitting an application form, passport, photographs, and supporting documents such as proof of financial capacity and a detailed itinerary to the Embassy of Japan or its designated visa application centre.

The application process for a Japanese tourist visa typically requires a minimum passport validity of six months beyond the intended stay. Essential documents include a completed visa application form, passport-sized photos, a flight itinerary, a hotel booking confirmation, and a Certificate of Employment or proof of business ownership. For students, a school certificate is needed. Proof of sufficient funds, such as bank statements or a Certificate of Bank Balance, is also mandatory. Processing times can vary, but it is advisable to apply at least 4-6 weeks before your planned travel date.

While visa policies can change, it is imperative for all travellers to verify the latest requirements directly with the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines or their official immigration website before making any travel arrangements. Confirming your visa status and understanding all entry requirements is a critical step before booking flights or accommodation. This proactive approach ensures a smooth and stress-free journey to Kita and other parts of Japan.
