Great location and very near Odori Park. But I think the highlight for me was the Breakfast Buffet. Probably one of the best breakfast buffets in Japan. I loved the eggs benedict with smoked salmon and the katsu burger. The best. Will definitely book this hotel again.

Spacious room for Japan, everything needed is there, connected to Sapporo or Odori station via underground. Very pleasant. We got a room with a view of the hotel garden and there is a small pool. The window can be opened. The bed is comfortable and big enough for two. The staff is very friendly. The price is cheap for the size of the room and the facilities. The best. Don't hesitate to choose this hotel.

The hotel is in a very strategic location at Tanukikoji Shopping Street. The room is comfortable and clean, and it is cleaned every day. The location is very close to the subway, and the hotel can be accessed through Poletown (the underground mall), which makes it easy to avoid the cold weather outside and is very convenient when carrying luggage. We also received Knot Coin that can be exchanged for drinks or snacks at the lounge

The hotel is located about a 5-minute walk from the west exit of Sapporo Station. Having worked part-time at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku during my student days, I'd always wanted to stay there, and I finally made it happen – it was absolutely fantastic! I stayed for two nights and three days. On the first day, I arrived a little early due to work. After leaving my luggage and taking care of some errands, I waited in the lobby for the 3 PM check-in time. A hotel staff member approached me and said, "It's a little early, but your room is ready, so please come in." I was able to check in a little early, and my luggage had already been taken to my room. These little thoughtful touches are so appreciated. The room was spacious enough, and of course, impeccably clean. The amenities were plentiful, including slippers, toothbrush, shampoo, body soap, conditioner, razor, and shower cap – I was very satisfied! It was very quiet, and I was able to relax completely during my stay. Another thing worth mentioning is the breakfast buffet. Not only was there a wide variety of food, but I was also able to enjoy dishes unique to Hokkaido. It was so delicious that I ate until I was completely full! (lol) They also had a takeaway coffee service in the room, which was a nice touch. I was completely satisfied! I would love to stay there again if I have the chance.

More about hotels in Hokkaido

Hokkaido: A Winter destination and Culinary Frontier for the Discerning Traveller

Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island, presents a captivating duality that sets it apart from the bustling metropolises of Honshu. It is a realm where nature's grandeur takes centre stage, offering vast, unspoiled landscapes that transform dramatically with the seasons. For international travellers seeking an escape that blends breathtaking natural beauty with unique cultural experiences, Hokkaido provides an unparalleled destination. Its appeal lies in its raw, untamed wilderness, from the snow-capped peaks perfect for winter sports to the fertile plains yielding some of Japan's most prized produce.

The island's diverse geography translates into a diverse mix of experiences, ensuring that no two visits are quite the same. Whether you are drawn to the world-renowned ski slopes of Niseko, the vibrant urban pulse of Sapporo, the serene lavender fields of Furano in summer, or the steaming volcanic landscapes of Noboribetsu, Hokkaido offers distinct enclaves each with its own character. This variety means that choosing your base within Hokkaido is a crucial step in crafting your ideal itinerary, allowing you to tailor your adventure to your specific interests, whether they lean towards outdoor pursuits, gastronomic exploration, or cultural immersion.

From a value perspective, Hokkaido presents an attractive proposition for a wide range of international visitors. With starting prices around ₱ 1,029.69 per night, it offers a more accessible entry point into Japan compared to some of its more densely populated counterparts. The abundance of fresh, high-quality produce and seafood, central to its renowned culinary scene, is often more affordably priced here. This makes Hokkaido a compelling choice for travellers from the US, Europe, and India who are looking for an authentic Japanese experience without the premium price tag often associated with Tokyo or Kyoto.

The accommodation landscape in Hokkaido mirrors its diverse offerings, ranging from world-class luxury resorts to charming, locally-run inns. Properties like the Hilton Niseko Village exemplify the island's commitment to providing exceptional service and amenities, catering to international standards with features like golf courses and extensive fitness facilities. Similarly, the Grand Mercure Sapporo Odori Park offers a sophisticated urban retreat, highlighting the blend of comfort and convenience available. For travellers planning their trip, exploring these options on Traveloka allows for easy comparison and the ability to book hotel stays that perfectly match their needs and budget.

Ultimately, Hokkaido is a destination that appeals to a broad spectrum of international travellers. US visitors might be drawn to the adventure sports and pristine natural beauty, while European travellers may find themselves captivated by the unique blend of Japanese tradition and modern comfort, perhaps with a focus on its culinary heritage. Indian travellers often seek value, excellent food, and efficient transport, all of which Hokkaido delivers. For travellers from Africa, the allure might lie in the distinct seasonal beauty and the opportunity to experience a different facet of Asian culture, with Hokkaido offering a unique, less-trodden path.

Best Areas to Stay in Hokkaido

Hokkaido is a vast island, and its appeal lies in its distinct regions and neighbourhoods, each offering a unique flavour of Japanese island life. For international visitors, understanding these differences is key to selecting the perfect base for their adventure. Whether you're seeking the thrill of world-class ski resorts, the vibrant energy of a major city, or the tranquil beauty of rural landscapes, Hokkaido has a district tailored to your desires, shaping your entire travel experience from arrival to departure.

Niseko

Niseko is globally renowned as a premier winter sports destination, drawing skiers and snowboarders from around the world to its powdery slopes. The atmosphere here is international, with a strong presence of Western visitors and a corresponding infrastructure that caters to them, including English-speaking staff and a variety of international dining options. For those who prioritize exceptional skiing and snowboarding, Niseko offers an unparalleled experience, making it a top choice for adventure enthusiasts and families looking for a snow-filled holiday.

From Niseko, you can easily access the famous Niseko Mountain Resort Grand Hirafu, offering extensive ski runs and breathtaking views. The area is also a gateway to other resorts like Annupuri and Hanazono, providing diverse terrain. Getting to Niseko typically involves flying into New Chitose Airport (CTS) and then taking a bus or private transfer, a journey of about 2.5 to 3 hours. While winter is its peak season, Niseko also offers hiking and outdoor activities in the warmer months, and it's a fantastic base to book attractions for both seasons.

Sapporo

Sapporo, Hokkaido's capital, is a dynamic urban centre that offers a sophisticated blend of city life, culture, and culinary delights. It's a hub for shopping, dining, and entertainment, making it an ideal base for travellers who want to experience the pulse of Hokkaido without sacrificing access to nature. The city is known for its wide, tree-lined avenues, its famous beer, and its annual Snow Festival, attracting a diverse range of international visitors who appreciate its convenience and cosmopolitan feel.

Within Sapporo, areas like Odori Park and Susukino offer distinct experiences. Odori Park is a green retreat in the city centre, hosting events throughout the year, while Susukino is the entertainment district, alive with neon lights, restaurants, and bars. Sapporo is easily accessible via New Chitose Airport (CTS), with frequent train services connecting the airport to the city centre in about 40 minutes. It serves as an excellent starting point for day trips to nearby natural attractions or as a destination in itself for those seeking urban exploration.

Minamifurano

Minamifurano, located in the central part of Hokkaido, is synonymous with the vibrant colours of its summer flower fields, particularly the iconic lavender that blankets the region. While it transforms into a winter sports area with ski resorts, its summer persona is what draws many international visitors seeking picturesque landscapes and a more tranquil, rural escape. This area appeals to photographers, nature lovers, and those looking for a serene getaway away from the larger crowds of the major cities.

The area is home to the Shin Furano Prince Hotel and Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, offering excellent accommodation options. Minamifurano is best reached by flying into New Chitose Airport (CTS) and then taking a train or bus, with the journey taking approximately 2 to 3 hours. Visitors can explore the Furano region's flower farms, enjoy local produce, and experience the slower pace of life. It's a perfect base for exploring central Hokkaido's natural beauty and agricultural charm.

Noboribetsu

Noboribetsu is Hokkaido's premier hot spring resort town, famous for its dramatic volcanic landscapes and therapeutic onsen (hot springs). The Jigokudani (Hell Valley) is a must-see, with its steaming vents and colourful sulfurous terrain, offering a unique geological spectacle. This area is suited to travellers who want relaxation and wellness, with many ryokans and hotels offering traditional Japanese bathing experiences. It provides a distinct natural wonder that sets it apart from other regions on the island.

The main draw here is the opportunity to soak in mineral-rich hot springs, believed to have healing properties. Many hotels in Noboribetsu offer extensive onsen facilities, allowing guests to unwind after a day of exploring. Noboribetsu is accessible from New Chitose Airport (CTS) via train to Noboribetsu Station, followed by a short bus ride. It's a destination that offers a different kind of natural beauty, focusing on geothermal activity and the restorative power of hot springs, appealing to those seeking a unique wellness retreat.

Asahikawa

Asahikawa, Hokkaido's second-largest city, offers a more laid-back urban experience compared to Sapporo, serving as a gateway to the Daisetsuzan National Park, Hokkaido's largest national park. It's a city known for its local crafts, its excellent ramen, and its zoo, making it a good base for travellers interested in exploring the northern parts of the island and its natural wonders. The city provides a more authentic, less tourist-centric feel, appealing to those who want to experience local life.

From Asahikawa, visitors can easily embark on excursions to the stunning landscapes of Daisetsuzan, known for its hiking trails and diverse wildlife. The city itself boasts attractions like the Asahiyama Zoo, famous for its innovative enclosures. Asahikawa is well-connected by train, with direct services from Sapporo and New Chitose Airport (CTS), making it relatively easy to reach. It's a practical choice for travellers looking to explore Hokkaido's natural beauty while enjoying the amenities of a comfortable city.

Hakodate

Hakodate, located at the southern tip of Hokkaido, is a historic port city with a rich cultural heritage, offering a different perspective from the island's more northern regions. It's known for its stunning night view from Mount Hakodate, its well-preserved Western-style buildings in the Motomachi district, and its vibrant morning market. This city appeals to travellers interested in history, scenic views, and a charming, slightly more European-influenced atmosphere within Japan.

Hakodate's attractions include the Goryokaku Fort, a star-shaped citadel, and the bustling Hakodate Morning Market, a worth visiting for seafood lovers. The city is accessible via its own airport (HKD) or by Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo, and also by ferry. Great location and very near Odori Park. But I think the highlight for me was the Breakfast Buffet. Probably one of the best breakfast buffets in Japan. I loved the eggs benedict with smoked salmon and the katsu burger. The best. Will definitely book this hotel again.
