The location is perfect. Walking distance from eateries and my favourite bar - Ah Chong, that serves amazing cocktails and the nicest sunset view. Although Cenang can get crowded and rowdy, but if you’re on a budget and looking for a place that is exactly on the beach, this is it. I wasn’t too particular about the food but breakfast was decent, enough to make me full past lunchtime. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was decent, I still had a good sleep :) This place is value for money.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Westin Langkawi Hotel. A totally recommended accommodation when visiting Langkawi! The hotel is reasonably priced. We paid for Garden View room but got upgraded to Partial Ocean View room. It's also kids-friendly. Our toddler loved the kids’ pool and kids’ club so much. Staffs were also warm and friendly. The beach view from the resort is amazing, from morning until the sun was down. Early yoga at the beach is complementary for all guests.

Great location, not in the middle of the chaotic Cenang area but close enough to be near food and shopping. Even the beach was not a problem as the hotel buggy ferries guests to the beach and it 's walking distance anyway. The rooms are spacious and clean, beds are very comfortable, and well equipped with good wifi signals. Breakfast is about one of the best experiences, from the excellent variety of food choices, to the fast service (for cleaning plates off the table) to speedy replenishment of the buffet spreads. Finally, the staff, from the front desk to the housekeeping, to the concierge, to the bartender and restaurant staff, all really wonderful, friendly, cheerful and helpful people. So, so impressed with the team there. Will certainly stay again!

A stay that truly felt warm, personal, and memorable. Stay Experience: From the moment I arrived, my stay at PARKROYAL Langkawi felt genuinely welcoming and relaxing. Everything flowed smoothly, and it didn’t feel like a typical “hotel stay” — it felt personal and comfortable, like being well taken care of throughout the trip. Ambiance/Facilities: The hotel has a calm, modern, and soothing vibe with beautiful sea views and well-kept facilities. The infinity pool was a favourite spot, and the overall environment made it easy to unwind and enjoy the island atmosphere. Food: Food was enjoyable with a good selection, especially during breakfast. The variety and quality were just nice — comforting without being over the top. Staff Assistance: The staff really made a difference, especially Azril, who was extremely friendly, helpful, and approachable. He went the extra mile by upgrading my room for free, which was such a pleasant surprise and truly made my stay feel special. Highlights: The standout moments were the stunning sunset views, the relaxing infinity pool, and the thoughtful service that made everything feel effortless. The complimentary room upgrade was definitely a highlight that I truly appreciated. Price: For the level of comfort, service, and experience provided, the price felt very worthwhile and fair. Location: Located near Pantai Tengah, the hotel is perfectly situated — close enough to restaurants and attractions, yet peaceful enough to enjoy a quiet and relaxing stay.

This is my 2nd time staying in this hotel. I spent for 2 nights. This hotel very comfortable, clean and nice view from the room, friendly staff, good service, this hotel have a good facilities like restaurant, swimming pool, water sport package (jet ski, banana boat, etc), spa package (foot massage, etc). The position of this hotel very strategic, close to the main beach because they have connecting door direct to the beach. Opposite you can found Warisan Duty Free which is you can buy beer, cig, chocolate, etc. Near by ATM also only 7 min by walk (Cenang Mall). They serve breakfast 7/10 they should serve spaghetti instead of yellow noodle and please serve fresh juices. But overall rating for this hotel 8.5/10.

More about hotels in Langkawi

Langkawi: Malaysia's Island Jewel for the Discerning Filipino Traveller

For Filipino travellers seeking an international escape that blends natural beauty with accessible luxury, Langkawi in Malaysia presents a compelling proposition. Unlike the bustling metropolises or the more commonly visited islands, Langkawi offers a unique tranquility, a UNESCO Global Geopark status, and a distinctively laid-back atmosphere that sets it apart. Its archipelago nature, comprising over 99 islands, provides a diverse landscape of pristine beaches, verdant rainforests, and dramatic limestone formations, creating a picturesque backdrop for a memorable holiday. This island destination is easily reachable from the Philippines, making it an attractive option for those looking to explore beyond familiar shores.

The island's charm lies in its varied character, with each district offering a different facet of the Langkawi experience. From the lively energy of Pantai Cenang, known for its vibrant beachfront and water sports, to the more serene and upscale ambiance of Tanjung Rhu, or the convenient hub of Kuah with its duty-free shopping, Langkawi caters to a spectrum of preferences. Even quieter locales like Burau Bay and Pantai Tengah offer their own unique appeals, from secluded resorts to family-friendly resorts. Understanding these nuances is key to crafting an itinerary that perfectly matches your travel style and desires.

For travellers from the Philippines, Langkawi stands out as a destination offering exceptional value. With starting prices around ₱ 401.38 per night for accommodation, it provides an affordable entry into a world-class tropical getaway. The island's reputation for stunning Beaches, abundant Nature, and Wellness offerings means that visitors can indulge in rejuvenating experiences without breaking the bank. This makes Langkawi an attractive choice for those who appreciate natural beauty and opportunities for relaxation, all within a budget-friendly framework compared to many other international destinations.

The accommodation landscape in Langkawi is as diverse as its natural scenery, ranging from charming budget-friendly resorts to opulent five-star establishments. For instance, Malibest Resort offers a more casual, family-oriented experience with its water slide and play areas, while the renowned Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa Langkawi provides a more luxurious escape with extensive facilities like tennis courts and a spa. These examples highlight the spectrum of choices available, ensuring that whether you're looking for simple comfort or lavish indulgence, you can book hotel options that fit your needs.

Langkawi's appeal is broad, drawing in travellers from various global markets. For US and European travellers, the island offers a blend of exotic landscapes and opportunities for cultural immersion, with its rich natural heritage and proximity to historical sites. Indian travellers often find Langkawi appealing due to its relatively short flight times from major Indian hubs, the availability of diverse culinary options, and a wide range of accommodation prices that suit different budgets. For travellers from African nations, Langkawi represents an accessible yet distinct tropical destination, offering a unique Southeast Asian experience.

Best Areas to Stay in Langkawi

Langkawi, while an island, is a region with distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a unique atmosphere and set of attractions. For international visitors, particularly those from the Philippines, choosing the right base is crucial as it significantly shapes the overall holiday experience. From the bustling hubs of activity to tranquil retreats, understanding these areas will help you find the perfect spot that aligns with your travel preferences and desired pace.

Pantai Cenang

Pantai Cenang is the undisputed heart of Langkawi's tourist activity, a vibrant stretch of coastline buzzing with energy. For travellers who enjoy a lively atmosphere, this is the place to be. It's particularly appealing to younger travellers and those seeking a dynamic holiday with plenty of entertainment options. The beach itself is stunning, lined with resorts, restaurants, and shops, offering a classic tropical beach experience that many international visitors seek.

This area is a hub for water sports, duty-free shopping, and a diverse culinary scene, making it easy to book attractions and activities. Getting to Pantai Cenang from Langkawi International Airport (LGK) is straightforward, typically a 15-20 minute taxi or ride-hailing service. Its proximity to many popular landmarks ensures that you're never far from the island's main draws, providing a convenient and exciting base for exploration.

Kuah

Kuah serves as Langkawi's main town and administrative centre, offering a different flavour compared to the beach-centric areas. It's a hub for duty-free shopping, local markets, and a more authentic glimpse into Malaysian island life. This area is ideal for travellers who appreciate convenience, a wider range of dining options beyond tourist traps, and easy access to essential services. It's a practical choice for those who want to balance relaxation with exploration and shopping.

From Kuah, visitors can easily access the Eagle Square (Dataran Lang) and explore the numerous duty-free outlets. The town is well-connected, with Langkawi International Airport (LGK) being a short drive away, making it a convenient arrival and departure point. While not directly on the beach, Kuah offers a solid base for day trips to other parts of the island, including boat tours and excursions to nearby attractions, providing a well-rounded Langkawi experience.

Tanjung Rhu

Tanjung Rhu offers a more serene and upscale experience, known for its picturesque beaches, clear waters, and dramatic limestone karsts. This area is perfect for travellers seeking tranquility, natural beauty, and a touch of luxury away from the crowds. It appeals to couples, families looking for a peaceful retreat, and those who appreciate a more refined island atmosphere. The natural scenery here is particularly breathtaking, offering a more secluded and exclusive feel.

The main draw here is the stunning beach itself, often cited as one of Langkawi's most beautiful. It's also a great starting point for exploring the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park via boat tours, offering a chance to witness the island's unique geological wonders. While less developed in terms of commercial activity compared to Pantai Cenang, Tanjung Rhu provides a peaceful escape with access to nature-focused activities and a more relaxed pace of life, ideal for unwinding.

Burau Bay

set between the airport and the popular Telaga Tujuh waterfall, Burau Bay is a tranquil cove that offers a more secluded resort experience. It's an excellent choice for travellers looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in nature, with lush rainforest surroundings and a sense of peaceful isolation. This area is particularly suited for those who prioritize relaxation and a close connection with the natural environment, away from the hustle and bustle of more developed tourist spots.

Burau Bay is strategically located for accessing natural attractions like the Seven Wells Waterfall (Telaga Tujuh) and the Langkawi Cable Car and SkyBridge, which are relatively close by. The resorts here often focus on providing a serene escape, with many offering private beaches or lush garden settings. It’s a good base for exploring the western side of the island and enjoying the quieter aspects of Langkawi's natural beauty, offering a different perspective from the more popular southern coast.

Pantai Tengah

Pantai Tengah is a popular alternative to the more energetic Pantai Cenang, offering a slightly more relaxed vibe while still providing a good range of amenities and activities. It's a favourite among families and couples who want to be close to the action but prefer a slightly quieter beachfront. The beach here is long and beautiful, perfect for leisurely strolls and enjoying the sunset, with a good selection of restaurants and shops lining the main road.

This area benefits from its proximity to Pantai Cenang, allowing easy access to its vibrant nightlife and extensive dining options, while offering a more peaceful retreat. Pantai Tengah also provides convenient access to various island tours and activities. For travellers arriving by air, it's a relatively short transfer from Langkawi International Airport (LGK), making it a practical and comfortable choice for a well-rounded Langkawi holiday experience.

Kampung Kuala Muda

Kampung Kuala Muda offers a glimpse into a more traditional Langkawi, a charming fishing village that provides a peaceful and authentic experience. This area is suited to travellers who want a quieter, more local immersion, away from the main tourist hubs. It's a place to experience the slower pace of island life, enjoy fresh seafood, and appreciate the natural surroundings without the commercial intensity found elsewhere on the island.

While less developed for mass tourism, Kampung Kuala Muda is known for its excellent seafood restaurants, offering fresh catches directly from the sea. It provides a unique perspective on Langkawi's heritage and local culture. For those interested in exploring the northern coast or seeking a tranquil base, this village offers a distinctive charm. It's a good starting point for exploring the less-visited parts of the island and experiencing a more authentic side of Langkawi.

Food & Dining in Langkawi

Langkawi's culinary landscape is a delightful fusion of Malay, Chinese, and Indian influences, reflecting Malaysia's rich cultural tapestry. For Filipino travellers, the island offers a chance to explore new flavours while finding familiar comforts. Iconic dishes include Nasi Lemak, the national dish of Malaysia, often served with spicy sambal, fried anchovies, and a hard-boiled egg. Seafood is, of course, a star attraction, with fresh catches grilled, steamed, or stir-fried to perfection, often seasoned with local herbs and spices that create a unique island taste.

The best places to savour Langkawi's cuisine range from bustling night markets and local hawker stalls to beachfront restaurants. Pantai Cenang is a hotspot for diverse dining, offering everything from casual eateries to more upscale establishments. Kuah town also boasts numerous local restaurants and food courts where one can find authentic Malay dishes. For Muslim travellers, finding Halal-certified eateries is generally straightforward, as Islam is the dominant religion in Malaysia, and most restaurants cater to Halal requirements.

Dining in Langkawi offers excellent value for international travellers. Street food and local eateries can provide a hearty meal for as little as ₱ 100-200. Mid-range restaurants typically charge between ₱ 300-600 per person for a full meal, while fine dining experiences can range from ₱ 1,000 upwards. Compared to many Western countries, these prices are remarkably affordable, allowing travellers to indulge in a variety of culinary experiences without significant financial strain.

When dining in Langkawi, it's helpful to be aware of local customs. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for exceptional service, usually around 10%. Meals are often communal, with dishes shared among diners. It's polite to use your right hand for eating if dining without cutlery. While many restaurants have English-speaking staff, learning a few basic Malay phrases like "Terima kasih" (thank you) can be a nice gesture. Be adventurous and try local specialties – it's part of the Langkawi experience.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Langkawi

Understanding local customs is key to a respectful and enjoyable trip to Langkawi. As a predominantly Muslim region, modest dress is appreciated, especially when visiting religious sites or venturing away from tourist beaches. While beachwear is acceptable at resorts and on the sand, covering shoulders and knees is advisable when exploring towns or local villages. Public displays of affection should be kept to a minimum. Greetings are typically warm, with a handshake being common, though it's polite to wait for a woman to extend her hand first.

At popular landmarks like Cenang Beach and the Langkawi Sky Cab, general tourist etiquette applies. Be mindful of noise levels, especially in quieter areas. Photography is usually permitted, but it's always courteous to ask permission before taking close-up photos of individuals. Queuing is generally orderly. For the Sky Cab, booking tickets in advance can save time, and being patient during peak hours is appreciated. Respecting the natural environment by not littering is also paramount.

Langkawi is generally a safe destination for international travellers, including those from the Philippines. Standard precautions apply: keep valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas late at night. For transportation, ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and reliable, offering transparent pricing. Taxis are also plentiful, but it's advisable to agree on a fare beforehand if a meter isn't used. Stick to reputable transport providers for peace of mind.

In case of emergencies, the general emergency number in Malaysia is 999 for police and ambulance. For health concerns, ensure you have adequate travel insurance. The nearest Philippine Embassy is located in Kuala Lumpur, which is a significant distance from Langkawi; however, for urgent consular assistance, you can contact their hotline. It's always wise to register your travel plans with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) or the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) if applicable, and keep their contact details handy.

Getting to Langkawi and Getting Around

Reaching Langkawi from the Philippines is a straightforward journey, typically involving a flight from Manila (MNL) or Cebu (CEB) with a layover in Kuala Lumpur (KUL). Direct flights are rare, so expect a connecting flight, with total travel time usually ranging from 6 to 10 hours depending on the layover duration. Flight prices can vary significantly, but budget around ₱ 8,000 to ₱ 15,000 for a round trip if booked in advance. Langkawi International Airport (LGK) is the primary gateway, located about 20-30 minutes from popular areas like Pantai Cenang and Kuah.

Once you've arrived in Langkawi, getting around is relatively easy and affordable. Taxis and ride-hailing services like Grab are readily available and are the most convenient options for reaching your accommodation and exploring the island. For shorter distances, especially along Pantai Cenang, walking is feasible. Car and motorbike rentals are also popular for those who prefer the freedom to explore at their own pace, with rental costs being quite reasonable for daily or weekly hires. Public buses exist but are less frequent and cover limited routes.

The best time to visit Langkawi is generally during the dry season, which runs from December to February. During these months, you can expect sunny days and pleasant temperatures, ideal for beach activities and sightseeing. The shoulder seasons, from March to May and September to November, can also offer good weather with fewer crowds and potentially lower prices. The monsoon season, from June to August, sees more rainfall, which might impact outdoor activities, though prices are typically at their lowest.

Before you depart for Langkawi, ensure you have a few essentials sorted. The local currency is the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR). While major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, it's wise to carry some cash for smaller vendors and local markets. Consider purchasing a local SIM card at the airport for affordable data access. Essential apps include Grab for transport, Google Maps for navigation, and a translation app. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

Visa Information for Langkawi

For Philippine passport holders planning a trip to Langkawi, Malaysia, the visa requirements are generally straightforward. Philippine citizens are typically granted visa-free entry into Malaysia for tourism purposes, allowing for stays of up to 30 days. This makes it a convenient destination for short getaways. It is crucial, however, to ensure your passport has at least six months of validity remaining from your date of entry and that you possess proof of onward travel, such as a return flight ticket.

While visa-free entry is standard, it is always recommended to verify the latest immigration policies directly with the Malaysian Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines or through their official immigration department website before your travel dates. Requirements can change, and staying updated ensures a smooth entry process. Having a confirmed hotel booking for your stay in Langkawi is also often a requirement for visa-free entry, demonstrating your intention for a legitimate tourist visit.

To confirm the most current visa regulations and any specific entry requirements, travellers should consult the official website of the Immigration Department of Malaysia or the Malaysian Embassy in the Philippines. This proactive step is essential, as immigration policies can be updated without prior notice. Confirming your entry status before booking your book flight and accommodation will prevent any last-minute complications and ensure a stress-free journey to Langkawi.
