Staff very friendly. Fast to take action when I report there are no shower gel in my room. They are willing to wait for me and not just burst in when I'm not around. There are many options to eat around the hotel. Mixue is just beside the hotel, and the briyani rice at Nasi Kandar store is very delicious. During the night, you can go to the opposite hotel where there are restaurants with so many options. It's a 10-minute walking distance to reach KTMB.

More about hotels in Perlis

Discover Perlis: Malaysia's Northernmost Charm for the Discerning Filipino Traveller

Perlis, Malaysia's smallest state, offers a tranquil escape that contrasts sharply with the bustling metropolises often found elsewhere in Southeast Asia. For Filipino travellers seeking a different pace, Perlis presents an authentic slice of Malaysian life, characterized by verdant paddy fields, serene coastlines, and a rich cultural heritage. Unlike the more frequented tourist hubs, Perlis invites exploration at a leisurely speed, allowing for genuine connection with its landscapes and people. Its proximity to Thailand also lends a unique cross-cultural flavour, evident in its cuisine and local customs, making it a fascinating destination for those looking beyond the usual.

The state's charm lies in its distinct geographical and cultural pockets, each offering a unique flavour to your visit. From the administrative heart of Kangar to the royal town of Arau, the fishing village atmosphere of Kuala Perlis, and the border town of Padang Besar, Perlis unfolds as a mosaic of experiences. Understanding these differences is key to crafting your ideal itinerary. Whether you seek the convenience of urban amenities in Kangar or the coastal breeze in Kuala Perlis, choosing your base within Perlis will significantly shape your journey, highlighting the importance of selecting the right neighbourhood for your stay.

For the budget-conscious Filipino traveller, Perlis stands out as an exceptional value proposition. With an average starting price of approximately ₱ 773.92 per night and an overall review score of 7.7 from over 7,658 reviews, it offers affordability without compromising on the quality of experience. This makes it an attractive option for travellers from the US, Europe, and India, who often find Malaysia to be a more accessible and cost-effective destination compared to some of its neighbours. The value extends beyond accommodation, encompassing food, local transport, and activities, allowing for a richer exploration on a manageable budget.

When considering accommodation, Perlis offers a spectrum that caters to various preferences and budgets. For instance, The Putra Regency Hotel Kangar Perlis, a 4-star establishment, provides a comfortable and well-appointed stay, reflecting the higher end of the market available here. On the other hand, Hotel Seri Malaysia Kangar, a 3-star option, offers reliable comfort and local hospitality, embodying the accessible and friendly nature of Perlis's lodging scene. These examples illustrate the diverse range of choices available, ensuring that every traveller can find a suitable place to rest and recharge, making it easier to book hotel stays that fit your needs.

Perlis is a destination that appeals to a broad range of international travellers. For those from the United States and Europe, its laid-back atmosphere and natural beauty offer a refreshing contrast to their busy lives, with opportunities for cultural immersion and exploring unique landscapes. Indian travellers will appreciate the connectivity, the familiar flavours in its diverse cuisine, and the excellent value for money. While direct connections might be less common for travellers from Africa, the regional accessibility within Southeast Asia makes Perlis a viable and rewarding addition to a broader Malaysian itinerary, offering a glimpse into a less-explored facet of the country.

For transportation, ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and reliable in Kangar and other main towns, offering a convenient and safe way to get around. Local taxis are also an option, though it's advisable to agree on a fare beforehand. For navigation, offline map applications are useful, especially when exploring more remote areas or the Perlis State Park.

In case of emergencies, the national emergency number in Malaysia is 999, which connects to police, ambulance, and fire services. While Perlis is a safe state, it's always wise to have contact information for your country's embassy or consulate in Malaysia readily available. For Filipino travellers, the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur is the primary point of contact for consular assistance. It is also recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, ensuring peace of mind throughout your journey.

Getting to Perlis and Getting Around

For Filipino travellers planning a trip to Perlis, the journey typically begins with a flight from major Philippine hubs like Manila (MNL) or Cebu (CEB) to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) in Malaysia. From KUL, you can then take a domestic flight to the nearest airport serving Perlis, which is primarily Kangar's own small airport or the larger Alor Setar Airport in the neighbouring state of Kedah, followed by a bus or taxi ride. Alternatively, for a more scenic and potentially budget-friendly option, you can take an overnight bus directly from Kuala Lumpur to Kangar. Booking your flight well in advance through Traveloka can secure better fares, with prices from Manila to Kuala Lumpur often starting around ₱ 5,000 to ₱ 10,000 depending on the season and airline.

Once you arrive in Perlis, getting around is relatively straightforward. Kangar, the state capital, has a local bus system, but its reach can be limited. For more flexibility, especially when exploring attractions like the Perlis State Park or travelling between towns like Kangar, Arau, and Kuala Perlis, using ride-hailing services like Grab is highly recommended. Taxis are also available, particularly at transport hubs. Renting a car or a motorbike can offer the most freedom, especially for venturing into rural areas or accessing trailheads for hiking, with rental costs varying but generally affordable for international visitors.

The best time to visit Perlis is generally during the dry season, which runs from December to March. During these months, the weather is typically sunny and less humid, making it ideal for outdoor activities such as exploring the natural landscapes or visiting historical sites. The shoulder seasons, from April to June and September to November, can also be pleasant with fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. While Perlis experiences rain throughout the year, the monsoon season from October to November might see heavier downpours, which could impact outdoor plans.

Before you depart for Perlis, ensure you have a few essentials sorted. The local currency is the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR), and while major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, carrying some cash is advisable for smaller shops, markets, and local eateries. You can exchange currency at the airport or in Kangar. Purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) is recommended for easy data access and communication. Essential apps to download include Grab for transport, Google Maps for navigation, and a translation app if needed. Use Traveloka to find the best flights — book flight.

Visa Information

For Philippine passport holders planning to visit Malaysia, including the state of Perlis, the visa requirements are straightforward and generally favourable. Philippine citizens are granted visa-free entry into Malaysia for tourism purposes, allowing for stays of up to 30 days. This visa exemption simplifies travel planning significantly, as no prior visa application is required before your departure from the Philippines. It is essential, however, to ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Malaysia.

When entering Malaysia, immigration officials may request proof of onward travel, such as a return flight ticket, and sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay. While not always asked, having these documents readily available can expedite the immigration process. The length of stay granted is at the discretion of the immigration officer, but for typical tourist visits to Perlis, the 30-day allowance is usually sufficient. It is crucial to adhere to the permitted duration of stay to avoid any immigration issues upon departure or future entries.

While visa-free entry is a significant convenience, policies can change. Therefore, it is always recommended for travellers to verify the latest visa regulations and entry requirements with the official immigration department of Malaysia or the Malaysian Embassy in the Philippines before making any travel arrangements. Confirming your entry status and the duration of stay permitted ensures a smooth and hassle-free journey to Perlis and other parts of Malaysia, allowing you to focus on enjoying your trip.
