I understand this was one of the first properties developed in Solmar Beach. Yes, the room interiors are a little dated, but all the more charming for it! Everything works, everything is clean and the amenities are full service. The staff are accommodating, courteous and efficient. And the location is amazing: right on the sand and an easy walk to the hustle and bustle of central Cabo. Easily a 4 star resort.

My experience at Solmar Resort was highly disappointing due to a pervasive culture of neglect and an unprofessional staff. From check-in onward, I felt consistently ignored at the front desk, restaurants, and bars, quickly realizing that service quality is entirely dictated by the size of your tip; if tips are small, staff members frequently ignore your requests altogether. This was incredibly obvious at the pool bar, where I sat unacknowledged for 15 minutes while other guests received completely different, prompt treatment. The attitude at the restaurants was particularly frustrating, as some servers openly rolled their eyes and gave me rude looks for asking for minor menu modifications, flatly telling me "no" without even checking with the kitchen. Despite paying for an all-inclusive package, the menu was very limited, and the meal timing windows were extremely strict with absolutely no flexibility for vegetarian guests. For eg, You can’t order fresh juice or fruits after noon. The sole exception was a fantastic dinner manager (an absolute 11/10) who listened to my requests for vegetarian alternatives and worked with the kitchen to ensure I got an amazing veggie dinner; tellingly, the staff only treated me fairly when he was actively standing there. To make matters worse, the property is completely dead with zero day or night activities, turning into a ghost town with no music or entertainment after 8:00 PM. I would not recommend this resort to anyone.

Easy place to stay from check-in to check out. $24/ person airport shuttle was easy to set up when we checked in. Room and common areas were very clean and well maintained. The staff at Solmar were so gracious and helpful to someone like me that doesn’t speak Spanish. Housekeeping did a great job as well! This vibe at Solmar was very chill. The upper pool was virtually silent all day. The main pool area was calm and inviting. The swim up bar had great drinks and the house music playing was just the right volume to enjoy but not interrupt a conversation. If you are looking for the club vibe this is not for you. This place is for relaxing and enjoying time with your friend or spouse. The room had a regular size fridge that wasn’t in the pictures so it was a nice surprise. Easy walk to town. Very nice walking on the beach at sunset. The water is rough so don’t plan on swimming in the ocean but the pools are great! There were only 2 small negatives we had. 1. Our air conditioning didn’t get the room as cool as we like. (It did take the edge off the heat when the blackout blinds were pulled though). 2. The sliding glass door rattled when the wind blew or the waves crashed really hard. (I was able to dull it with some tissue between the 2 panels though). Other than that it was a great place and we will stay here again for sure.

I've been visiting the original Solmar since the 70's. It definitely feels like a budget property next to Grand Solmar. Would be nice to see the rooms updated/freshened...same tile work since the 80's-90's. Also update/upgrade dining/menus in the primary restaurant adjoining the pool. The A/C worked great, however, whenever I had it on while sleeping, I woke up with scratchy throat and runny nose. Makes me wonder when the vents were last cleaned. I had friends stayinging in the Grand Solmar so was able to join them for dinner. The restaurants are stunning, but food I had two nights was just OK. Nothing I'd reorder, and disappointed in the seafood...surprising considering the location. Best things I had there were breakfast burrito in the Deli and chicken and cheese quesadilla by the pool. That being said, the Solmar is in one of the best locations in all of Mexico. Glad it hasn't been ruined by all the neighboring growth over the years.

Enjoyed the pool. Location was good but downside was that it doesn’t tell you it’s up on a hill and if you don’t want to pay taxi/shuttle daily, it is a hilly long walk.

The doorknob to our front door came off and the hot water knob also came off. We made them work to avoid having workers in our space. The pluses of this place: location and price. Drawback: you get what you pay for. If you don’t mind dated rooms that may or may not have broken parts, go for it. The pool and hot tub are nice and if you want, you can pay for a day at the neighboring property.
