The staff was amazing and very helpful and accommodating. Arrived an hour early and checked in immediately. I was only there for 1 day and staff told me to go to Tops in the evening and that was the most beautiful place on top of a mountain overlooking Cebu. Your Travel Guide to Cebu City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Cebu City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For the most convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For most Filipino travelers, flying is the most efficient way to reach Cebu City from Manila and other major Philippine hubs. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia operate numerous daily flights to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). Flight durations from Manila are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Fares can vary significantly, but booking in advance can secure tickets for as low as PHP 1,500 to PHP 3,000 for a one-way trip during off-peak seasons.

Alternatively, for those who prefer a more scenic, albeit much longer, journey, inter-island ferry services are available from various ports in Luzon and Mindanao. Companies like 2GO Travel offer routes that can take anywhere from 20 to 36 hours, depending on the origin port and itinerary. While this option is considerably slower, it can be a more budget-friendly choice for some, with ticket prices ranging from PHP 1,000 to PHP 4,000 for a standard seat. Planning your trip well in advance is key for ferry travel.

While less common for reaching Cebu City from distant islands due to the extensive travel time, bus services are available for those traveling within the Visayas region. Major bus terminals in Cebu City connect to various provincial towns. If you are coming from nearby islands like Bohol or Negros, ferry services are frequent and relatively short, making them a practical option before connecting to land transport. Remember to book your flight early for the best deals.

Best Time to Visit Cebu City

The ideal time to visit Cebu City for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which generally runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and lower chances of rain, making it perfect for exploring the city's outdoor attractions and nearby islands. The cooler months within this period, from December to February, offer particularly pleasant weather, with average temperatures ranging from 24°C to 31°C.

The period from June to October is considered the wet season, characterized by higher humidity and a greater likelihood of rainfall, including occasional typhoons. While you might find lower accommodation prices and fewer crowds during these months, it’s essential to be prepared for potential disruptions to outdoor activities. If you decide to travel during this time, it’s wise to have indoor alternatives planned and to monitor weather forecasts closely.

For those looking to experience local festivals, the Sinulog Festival, held every third Sunday of January, is a major draw. This is Cebu’s grandest celebration, honoring the Santo Niño. While it’s a spectacular event, expect massive crowds and higher prices for flights and accommodation during this period. If you’re not specifically aiming for the festival, it’s best to avoid this time to experience Cebu City with more ease.

Food and Dining Near Cebu City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Cebu is celebrated for its culinary contributions to Filipino cuisine, and one dish that stands out is Lechon. Often hailed as the best in the Philippines, Cebuano Lechon is known for its crispy skin and flavorful, tender meat, typically seasoned with a blend of spices. You can find excellent Lechon stalls and restaurants throughout Cebu City, with many locals recommending places like CNT Lechon or Rico's Lechon for an authentic taste.

Another must-try is Kinilaw, Cebu's version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, usually tuna or tanigue, is "cooked" in vinegar, often with ginger, onions, chili, and calamansi juice. It’s a refreshing appetizer that perfectly complements the tropical climate. Many local eateries and even higher-end restaurants offer their own take on this classic dish, providing a zesty start to any meal.

For seafood lovers, grilled items are a staple in Cebu. Freshly caught fish, squid, and prawns are often grilled to perfection, served with soy sauce, calamansi, and chili for dipping. You can find numerous seafood restaurants, especially along the coast or in markets where you can pick your own catch. This simple yet delicious preparation highlights the freshness of the ingredients.

Don't leave Cebu without trying Chorizo de Cebu. These small, sweet, and slightly spicy pork sausages are a local delicacy, often pan-fried until slightly caramelized. They are a popular breakfast item or a savory snack. Many local markets and specialty food stores sell them, and they are a delightful taste of Cebuano flavor that you can even take home as pasalubong.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Cebu City

Cebuanos are known for their hospitality and friendly nature. While generally relaxed, it’s always appreciated if visitors show respect for local customs. Dress modestly when visiting religious sites like churches or temples. It’s also common for locals to speak Cebuano (Visayan), but English and Tagalog are widely understood, especially in tourist areas and commercial establishments.

When it comes to safety, Cebu City is generally safe for tourists, but like any urban center, it’s wise to be aware of your surroundings. Avoid displaying expensive items openly, and be cautious of petty theft, especially in crowded places like markets or public transport. It’s advisable to use reputable taxi services or ride-sharing apps for transportation. Keep emergency contact numbers handy, such as the local police hotline.

For navigating the city and staying connected, several apps can be very useful. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are widely used for convenient and often more affordable transportation compared to traditional taxis. Google Maps is essential for directions, and communication apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are popular for staying in touch. Having a local SIM card can also be beneficial for data access.

Understanding basic Cebuano phrases can enhance your interactions, though English is sufficient for most tourist needs. Always be polite and respectful, and you’ll find Cebuanos to be warm and welcoming. Familiarizing yourself with the local currency (Philippine Peso, PHP) and common payment methods will also make your transactions smoother.

I arrived at 8:30pm, I went to the room and it hadn't been cleaned. The receptionists tried to put me on a standard room even I had paid for a VIP room. 5 min later I was told the VIP room was ready, which was clearly not ok. How come they could clean a room in 5 min.

On Wednesday I asked if I could have my room cleaned. They said it was too late because it was after 3. I said fine, I'll ask again tomorrow. Thursday morning, I go to breakfast, I'm gone literally 5 minutes and they decide that's the time to clean my room. Sounds normal, except I had the do not disturb light on. I have very expensive electronics with me. I need to be there if someone is cleaning my room. I don't think they meant to look shady, but it looks shady. Why wait until I leave? And I know it happened exactly that way because I have it on camera. I always bring a camera with me to hotels just in case. It's internet enabled. I receive the notification as soon as it happens. I tell them to get out of my room from the speaker on the camera and they continue cleaning the room. I had to leave the restaurant and hurry back just to kick them out of my room because they didn't listen to me when I said it through the camera. And they heard me. You can see them check the do not disturb light when I said, get out, the do not disturb light is on. So the staff is either completely stupid or up to no good. It's up to you to decide.

The staffs were accommodating and helpful. The property is newly built. The only issue I had was their elevator not working due to it's under maintenance. So I had to go up and down from and to my room at 3rd floor.

The staff was very courteous and respectful. The transportation and shopping was very close. The elevator was broken and it would've been nice to have fixed. The hot water was difficult to get just right. It was either too cold or too hot. Overall, I appreciated the warm and inviting atmosphere that the staff created. It was the trip of a life time.

Good hotel for short transit. Girls at the front desk are very pretty and very helpful. The hotel is located near to a mall (JY mall at JY square) and super market with good food choices around. Or you can take those little bus things for 8 PHP to get wherever you want(bus-04m to get to Ayala mall) most of the big attractions are a lot farther down south , and to do a tour to get to them you need to be in a group.there are only churches and 1 or 2 temples nearby. So if you have some time to spare then just go further south near Moalboal and Oslob . But if your just looking for a nice hotel with good transportation and food nearby then this hotel is just fine. One small issue that I also found with my hotel in puerta princessa, I thought it was just my hotel at the time but seeing it here I think it’s just in the philipenes, random people slamming the doors is really loud and you get random sounds from the ceiling even though my room is on the top floor. It’s not something that will keep you up at night or disturb you very much but it’s just something you will notice and wonder what that could possibly be lol. Oh and to get to the hotel from the airport is about 300-310 PHP. When looking for hotels I’ve tried to give detailed reviews because it’s really hard to find a hotel and odd reviews make it even harder, so wherever you stay please try to give a detailed review like this one. Safe travels

I arrived at 8:30pm, I went to the room and it hadn't been cleaned. The receptionists tried to put me on a standard room even I had paid for a VIP room. 5 min later I was told the VIP room was ready, which was clearly not ok. How come they could clean a room in 5 min.

The staff was amazing and very helpful and accommodating. Arrived an hour early and checked in immediately. I was only there for 1 day and staff told me to go to Tops in the evening and that was the most beautiful place on top of a mountain overlooking Cebu. If you are ever in Cebu I highly recommend 18 Suites Cebu and visiting Tops. A
