Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, Philippines

Fort Bonifacio is a slice of Manhattan in the heart of Metro Manila. Although it is home to a thriving business district, the atmosphere is distinctly geared to a younger and more urbane crowd rather than suits and ties.

At A Glance

Fort Bonifacio, also known as the Global City, was part of the headquarters of the Philippine Army before it was developed to be an upscale commercial area. It is a melding of commerce and culture that would attract the hip and tech savvy traveller.

How to Go

By land transportation

Fort Bonifacio is immediately accessible via land. Right between EDSA and C-5 roads, major thoroughfares that go right across Metro Manila, Fort Bonifacio is just an Uber or taxi ride away. Buses also regularly ply both routes although another shuttle or bus may be necessary to reach the city.

Getting Around

BGC is just small enough that everything can be reached on foot and is probably the best way to go around the City. Bring an umbrella for the occasional thunderstorm or to protect yourself from the sun.

A well-organized shuttle system also ferries you from one corner of the city to the other.

Tourist Attractions

BGC is one of the best shopping locations in the Philippines as it is home to a diverse set of malls. Market Market is houses a marketplace that features local and organic produce from different parts of the Philippines. Serendra and Bonifacio High Street offer an open air approach to upscale shopping. SM Aura houses an IMAX Theater and is one the tallest malls in the country. The Venice Piazza is a beautiful replica of the canals of Venice.

The young and the young at heart will definitely enjoy The Mind Museum which is a quirky approach to teaching the sciences, allowing visitors to learn while having tons of fun.

For a bit of military history, the Manila American Memorial Cemetery and the Heroes Cemetery can be toured for a fee.

Finally, for those who want escape from the hustle and bustle of urban living, the Kalikasan Garden is a small park tucked away in a quiet corner of the city.

Top Things to Do

On weekends, Bonifacio High Street is home to some of the most talented musicians busking along the strip. Sit back and relax at one of the many cafes and restaurants as you enjoy some of the music on display.

Dotted along a multitude of parks is a number of beautiful art installations and pieces which you can visit. Beautiful graffiti pieces can be found alongside the buildings and would tickle the fancy of urban art aficionado.

For a unique spa experience, try the traditional hilot of the Mandara Spa. Using traditional Filipino techniques, Mang Robert can unknot the most tired of muscles.

Where to Eat

BGC is home to some of the best fine dining in Metro Manila. L'Aubergine, L'Entrecote and Mamou offer some of the best menus in the business.

For the best fusion Japanese cuisine south of Tokyo, Mecha Uma would be the place to go. For the best Mecha Uma experience, go for Chef Bruce Ricketts' omakase menu.

For more local flavor, Abe offers the finest selection of Kapampangan delicacies. For the adventurous, try eating their sauteed locusts or fried frogs.

Fort Bonifacio is home to Valkyrie and the Palace Pool Club, two of the most popular nightclubs in the country. Be prepared to dress to impress however.

Burgos Circle and the Fort Strip is also home to some of the best bars in the Metro. The local music scene also gets featured at Unit 27, a brunch cafe that transforms into a bar at night.
