May 26, 2017 - Backpacking
Pros: 1. Location - strategic. Just a stone throw away from victory liner, and very accessible to all available modes of transportation in baguio. You can easily get a cab, and every cab driver knows this hotel. Also close to some good restaurants! 2. Room - I requested for a room that's on the highest floor upon check in (to avoid road noise, since the hotel is beside the main road) and I was not disappointed. They gave me room 405 which has 2 double sized beds and was quite spacious. The cable tv was ok, the ac unit cooled the room was perfectly and didn't produce noises. 3. Hot and cold shower - worked liked a charm. I couldn't even adjust the handle more to the left because it was too hot (almost like boiling) but I guess other guests would like that, haha. You only need to wait for 1-2 seconds for the hot water to kick in. 4. Breakfast - you'll have your buffet breakfast at their restaurant (te quiero tapas bar and restaurant) which is just a few meters away from the hotel. Breakfast starts at 6:30am to 10:00am. We went there around 8:30am and not all tables were full. The selection was pretty basic: bacon, sausages, (rather awful) omelettes, fried/plain rice, dried fish, cereals, fruits, cold cuts, coffee and juices. Breakfast wasn't extraordinary, but overall passable. 5. (bonus) hotel guard - I forgot to get the name of the guard on duty from may 17-18, but he was so courteous and polite. He would always greet me, and all guests with a warm smile. He makes guests feel welcome. Something your management should teach your hotel staff. The guard on duty on the above mentioned dates should get a raise. Cons: 1. Check in - upon arriving at the hotel, I requested for early check in (if possible). The hotel was fully booked the morning I went, but I saw a guest checking out the same time (around 5:30am) and was told by front desk that after the guest checks out, cleaning will be at 8:30am, and guest check in will be an hour after (9:30am). I asked the front desk lady to contact me around 9:30am so I can go back and check in my room properly. She said yes, she'll contact me. I then left my bags to grab breakfast and tour the town. 9:30am came but no one contacted me. 2 hours later, still no one contacted me. I then went back to your hotel to find out what's going on. To my surprise, the next people in charge of manning the front desk said they were not informed by the last person on duty of the task and apologized for having me wait for nothing. Just wow. 2. (some) hotel staff - there was not only one but quite a few instances I got to meet hotel staff at the hallways in the eye and they didn't really let me feel welcome and warm - no smile or greeting whatsoever. One staff I got to meet eyes with just looked and walked away. The only person that I felt was doing his job perfectly was the hotel guard. And in rare instances, the front desk. 2. Towels - not 100% cotton (maybe). When you try dry yourself using any of their towels in the shower, a percent of water will just spread on your skin (poor towel quality), something a 100% cotton towel would instantly solve. Not a big issue for me, but this is the first time I used this type of towel in a 3 star hotel. All other 3 star hotels I stayed at had good quality towels. 3. Check out - the lady on duty at the front desk asked me to pay for my stay. Wait, what? I thought I already paid for it when I booked online? I asked her to check again. A few minutes later she said everything is good and the room was already paid. What a waste of time. Overall, I would stay here again, but I do hope all the things i've mentioned get appropriate improvement and action.
