Your Travel Guide to Pasay as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Pasay from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For the most convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is the most common method. NAIA is located in Pasay itself, making it incredibly convenient. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia operate numerous flights daily from key cities such as Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo. Fares can range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 8,000 or more, depending on the origin city, airline, and how far in advance you book your flight.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces or regions accessible by land, bus travel is a viable and economical option. Major bus terminals in Pasay serve routes from Northern Luzon (e.g., Baguio, Pangasinan) and Southern Luzon (e.g., Batangas, Quezon). Bus fares typically range from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500, with travel times varying significantly based on distance and traffic. This mode of transport is ideal for those who prefer a more scenic journey or are traveling on a tighter budget.

Driving to Pasay is also an option for those coming from Luzon. Major expressways like the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) connect to Metro Manila's road network, leading to Pasay. Toll fees will apply, and travel time can be heavily influenced by traffic, especially during peak hours. Having your own vehicle offers flexibility but requires navigating the city's complex road systems and finding parking, which the Midas Hotel & Casino does provide.

Best Time to Visit Pasay

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Pasay is no exception. The dry season, generally from November to April, is considered the most favorable time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, perfect for outdoor activities and exploring the city. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 35°C. This period, however, also coincides with peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices.

The wet season runs from May to October. While this period brings occasional rainfall, it doesn't mean you should avoid Pasay. Often, the rain comes in short, heavy bursts, usually in the afternoon, leaving the rest of the day clear. Visiting during the wet season can offer a more relaxed atmosphere with fewer tourists and potentially better deals on hotels and flights. It's advisable to pack an umbrella and waterproof gear if you plan to travel during these months.

For a balance of good weather and manageable crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as November or February. These periods often provide pleasant weather conditions without the intensity of the peak season. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Pasay offers a dynamic urban experience year-round, with indoor attractions and entertainment options available regardless of the weather.

Food and Dining Near Pasay — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in its rich culinary heritage. Adobo, often considered the national dish, is a savory stew typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and black peppercorns. You can find excellent versions in many local eateries and restaurants around Pasay, often served with steamed rice.

Another Filipino favorite is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, usually made with tamarind broth, meat (pork, beef, or fish), and a variety of vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. Its comforting, tangy flavor is a unique taste of Filipino home cooking. Many restaurants near the Midas Hotel & Casino will offer this dish, providing a warm and satisfying meal.

For those with a sweet tooth, Halo-Halo is a popular dessert that is perfect for the tropical climate. This refreshing concoction is a mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a delightful treat that offers a burst of flavors and textures, and you can find it at various dessert stalls and restaurants throughout Pasay.

Lechon, a whole roasted pig with crispy skin and tender meat, is a celebratory dish that is a must-try if you have the opportunity. While often found at special occasions, some restaurants offer lechon portions. Its rich flavor and satisfying crunch make it a truly Filipino culinary experience. Exploring the local food scene in Pasay will undoubtedly lead you to these and many other delicious dishes.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Pasay

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) is always appreciated. Filipinos are generally respectful, and it's customary to show deference to elders. Understanding basic etiquette, such as not pointing with your finger but rather with your chin or an open hand, can enhance your interactions.

Safety in Pasay, as in any major city, requires awareness. It's advisable to be mindful of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets or public transport, to avoid petty theft. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. Having the contact details of your hotel, the Midas Hotel & Casino, readily accessible is also a good practice.

To navigate Pasay and Metro Manila more easily, several mobile applications can be very useful. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are essential for convenient transportation, allowing you to book cars or motorcycle taxis. Navigation apps such as Google Maps are indispensable for finding your way around the city and estimating travel times. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Viber are widely used by locals.

Consider downloading a currency converter app if you plan to shop extensively or are unfamiliar with the Philippine Peso (PHP). Additionally, having a translation app can be helpful, although English is widely spoken in Metro Manila. These digital tools can significantly enhance your travel experience, making it smoother and more enjoyable as you explore the many facets of Pasay.

I stayed at Midal Hotel for two nights and found the experience to be decent but with several areas that need attention. The room itself was spacious and comfortable enough for two people working, and overall it fits the “budget-friendly” category. However, I was assigned to a room connected to another unit by a locked adjoining door. This raised a privacy concern; not so much for me, but for the guests on the other side. Since I’m often on calls late at night until early morning, the sound easily traveled. If I could hear them, then they could definitely hear me. The bed was another issue. It’s noticeably worn out, and I woke up with shoulder and hip pain from the uneven surface. The bathroom also needs maintenance; the bathtub was clogged, and I even spotted a small cockroach on the floor. I tend to notice these things quickly, probably because I’ve been hopping across multiple hotels during my month-long stay in the Philippines. On the positive side, the reception area is pleasant. I wasn’t moved to another room, but since my stay was short, I didn’t push for a transfer. Location-wise, it’s near Mall of Asia, but not exactly along the main route. Expect a short walk to the main road to catch public transport, or simply use Grab for convenience. Overall, Midal Hotel works if you’re on a budget and need a spacious room, but I hope they can improve their room maintenance and reconsider assigning guests to adjoining rooms unless requested.

1st time got a shock that you can bring alcohol to the hotel. They call a few times to check if we are consuming alcohol. No shops nearby and they check whatever u purchase. Not stepping back into this hotel ever again

our booking was canceled by the Midas hotel lucky we checked about a airport pick up because they didn't let us know, and the reply was sorry but because of a power issue, we are unable to honor this booking and we also waiting for a refund as we paid in advance.

Rooms were horrible. Smelly and stains of carpet that looked like blood. Wall paper falling off the wall and aircon vent hole was too big for aircon vent making it feel dirty and unfinished. I don’t do a lot of reviews but this one should be done. Very old and overpriced

The Casino was closed. That’s a bummer For lunch it would have been nice to have more American dishes. Service was ok. Servers were really nice and polite.
