Your Travel Guide to Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Island from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) is the primary gateway, serving numerous domestic flights daily. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia Philippines operate frequent flights from Manila (MNL) to CEB. Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Fares can vary significantly based on booking time and season, but budget-conscious travelers can often find round-trip tickets for as low as PHP 3,000 to PHP 6,000 if booked in advance during promotional periods. Booking your book flight early is key to securing the best prices.

For those preferring land and sea travel, reaching Cebu involves a longer journey. From Manila, you can take a bus to various ferry terminals (like those in Batangas) for a ferry trip to Cebu. This sea voyage can take anywhere from 20 to 36 hours, depending on the ferry operator and route. Bus fares to ferry ports range from PHP 800 to PHP 1,500, and ferry tickets can cost between PHP 2,000 to PHP 4,000 for an economy or tourist class seat. This option is considerably more time-consuming but can be a more scenic and economical choice for some.

Driving to Mactan Island is possible if you are coming from other parts of Cebu or nearby Visayas islands accessible by ferry. The island is connected to mainland Cebu by bridges. If driving from Luzon, you would need to combine driving with ferry services. Toll fees will apply on expressways and bridges. The travel time can be extensive, spanning multiple days, and requires careful planning of ferry schedules and overnight stops. For most travelers from major cities like Manila, flying remains the most practical and time-efficient method.

Best Time to Visit Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Island

Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Island, enjoys a tropical climate year-round, characterized by warm temperatures and high humidity. The best time to visit for most Filipino travelers seeking sunny skies and calm seas is during the dry season, which generally runs from December to May. During these months, rainfall is less frequent, and the weather is typically more conducive to outdoor activities, beach lounging, and island hopping. The period between March and May is particularly warm and sunny, ideal for those who love the heat.

The wet season, from June to November, brings a higher chance of rain, often in the form of short, intense downpours, though extended periods of rain are also possible. While this season might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it can also bring about rougher seas, which might affect boat trips and water sports. For travelers who are flexible and don't mind occasional rain showers, visiting during the shoulder months of the wet season (e.g., June or November) can offer a good balance of decent weather and fewer crowds.

Food and Dining Near Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Cebuano cuisine is renowned for its distinct flavors, and Mactan Island offers ample opportunities to savor these local delights. A must-try is the famous Cebu Lechon, often hailed as the best in the Philippines. Unlike other versions, Cebu Lechon is typically roasted with a simpler blend of salt, pepper, and garlic, allowing the natural flavor of the pork to shine. Look for local eateries or restaurants specializing in Lechon for an authentic taste.

Another local specialty is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, usually tuna or tanigue, is "cooked" in vinegar, often with ginger, onions, chili, and calamansi juice. It’s a refreshing and tangy dish, perfect as an appetizer, especially in a tropical climate. Many seaside restaurants and local carinderias will offer their own take on this popular dish.

For seafood lovers, grilled seafood is a staple in coastal areas like Mactan. Freshly caught fish, prawns, squid, and shellfish are grilled to perfection, often seasoned simply to highlight their natural flavors. Many restaurants offer a "paluto" service where you can select your fresh seafood and have it cooked according to your preference. This is a fantastic way to enjoy the bounty of the ocean.

Don't leave Cebu without trying Puto Maya and Sikwate. Puto Maya is a sticky rice cake, often served with a rich, thick hot chocolate known as Sikwate. This combination is a popular breakfast or merienda treat. You can find this delightful pairing in local markets and some cafes, offering a comforting and traditional taste of Cebuano mornings. Exploring these culinary offerings will enrich your travel experience in Lapu-Lapu City.

The front desk provided no wifi passwords, information about the resort, its restaurants or really anything. The food and drinks are overpriced. The snorkelling wasn’t very good at all, only grasses and a few fish and start fish. When checking out they said my taxi was called. 20 minutes later I found out they hadn’t called my taxi to the airport. Everyone just stands around and hides around the resort. It was the laziest employees and the poorest value out of any hotel I’ve ever witnessed anywhere.

Chose Tambuli coz it got recommended to us, but got POOR service. We checked in for a night with 3 rooms pax of 10 ( including 3 kids ) . Our room info. Are 2 rooms with twin bed and 1 queen bed. Got there to check in. Provided my I.D. they asked us to write down the names and age of people who will stay. They keep insisting the the 2 kids age 13 and 15 are adults. And can't place in same room where I originally booked them. I told them no one informed me about the policy of 2 adults 1 kid only per room , when I booked it. I showed them that in expedia app 0-17 is considered child, also, I payed extra in that room with 2 kids and 2 adults. I also aware I added 1 more adult, contacted them ahead of time. They told me thru messaging that extra adult/bed will be Php 2300. I want to emphasize (/) means or. Only to find out that we felt disturbed the whole stay because they keep wanting to set up additional bed. The fact that I agreed only to pay for additional person not bed. We even about to sleep and they called from front desk want us to sign awave about this issue. Welcome drinks are horrible! Full of sugar. Staff at welcome desk keep going back and fort to ask me about same thing. We need attentiveness and stop confusing guests that wants to relax. Our room smells musky or molds. So much staffs but they say same thing to call at front desk for any complaints. The fact the there's like 20 of them cannot even rely it to the person in charge. All in all don't book here.

A lot of my stay was excellent, and it would have been 5 stars given all the personal touches. Unfortunately, I was price-gouged for a lid to a pot that I accidentally broke. I was charged $50 (after talking them down from $85) to replace an $18 pot (I looked up the price). It was already heavily scratched... Also, I would strongly recommend they extend the pool bar hours well into the night. It was wildly popular compared to the actual bar, but it shut down way too early when there were still bar patrons. They should also sell drinks and snacks in the lobby (dried fruit from Cebu, cookies, nuts, literally anything) 24 hours a day. I would find myself waking up craving a midnight snack or just wanting something simple to bring to the beach. Given how locked down the property is, a mini convenience store or even a simple vending machine is necessary.

These are the facts. Was not told the complementary breakfast was only for 2 adults until we went for breakfast. Dialing zero for assistance doesn’t work. The only number we where able to get to answer was house keeping. First night there at the Cafe’ went to order and half of what we wanted wasn’t available. Ok we found alternatives off the extremely limited menu. Next day tried the other choice and the same thing happened. Literally half the menu isn’t available. Usually when you sit down and the waiter offers water it’s free. Not here. 90pesos each. Checkout takes forever as they inspect the room before you can leave. Supposedly we stained a hand towel. Ok maybe. But we waited 45 minutes and then still had to ask if they where finished. And when we asked the attendance pulled the paperwork from under the counter. Kind of shady. 333pesos for a hand towel. Pretty exact and expensive. The pools are nice. Beach leaves something to be desired. We didn’t do any water sports as we didn’t have time. It’s a one lane street to get there that is usually very busy. But spend some time and you can eat somewhere else for much less. The house keeping staff is fast and polite. Actually all the staff is polite. Just crappy policies in my opinion. All the pools but 1 close at 5pm. I will never return here. But take this and decide for yourself. This was cheaper than others and it shows. Also the spa was closed from the tropical storm 2 years ago.

Curbs are cracked and missing large chunks or stone that need repairing. The pools were designed without surface water skimmers so nothing is filtered that doesn't sink to the bottom of the pool or removed manually. Food was excellent at both restaurants!
