Loved staying at the Marison. The staff had perfect customer service, room was nice n sheets felt crisp like a five star hotel should feel. Breakfast buffet wasn’t huge but large enough to offer a great variety with even a Bicol food experience. We had the best view on the 4the floor bar n restaurant of the Mayon Volcano. One of the main reasons we came to Legazpi. It was majestic. If you go to Legazpi I highly recommend staying here. It’s even close to the shopping malls. You still need to take a taxi but it’s not far away.

I have no problems with my stay at this hotel. In my senior moments, I booked the wrong dates.. I changed the dates to the right date but was charged an extra $134 for the same room and without breakfast. I’ve been a loyal customer of Expedia. I was advised to cancel my booking and use last minute.com to get a similar booking. Should have followed the advise. $139 more for loyalty does not make sense.

Your Travel Guide to Legazpi City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Legazpi City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from Manila and other major Philippine cities, flying is the most efficient way to reach Legazpi City. Several airlines operate regular flights to Legazpi International Airport (LGP). Flight durations typically range from 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes. Fares can vary depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but budget-friendly options are often available, especially during off-peak periods.

Alternatively, bus travel is a more economical option for those coming from Luzon, particularly Manila. Buses depart from various terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao and Pasay. The journey is considerably longer, typically taking around 10 to 12 hours, depending on traffic and stops. Bus fares usually range from PHP 800 to PHP 1,500, offering a more budget-conscious way to reach Legazpi City for wallet-conscious travelers.

For those who prefer to drive, Legazpi City is accessible via the Pan-Philippine Highway. The road conditions are generally good, making it a feasible option for road trips. The drive from Manila is extensive, spanning over 500 kilometers and taking approximately 9 to 11 hours without significant stops. Toll fees will apply along the route, so factor these into your travel budget. This option provides the most flexibility for exploring the region at your own pace.

Best Time to Visit Legazpi City

The ideal time to visit Legazpi City generally falls within the dry season, from November to May. During these months, the weather is typically sunny with less rainfall, making it perfect for outdoor activities and sightseeing, including trips to Mayon Volcano and nearby beaches. The temperatures are warm, averaging around 28-30 degrees Celsius, so light clothing is recommended.

The period from June to October marks the wet season, characterized by increased chances of typhoons and heavy rainfall. While you might find fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices during this time, outdoor activities can be significantly impacted. If you choose to visit during these months, it’s advisable to monitor weather forecasts closely and have flexible plans. For the most pleasant weather, aim for the dry season to fully enjoy what Legazpi City and Albay have to offer.

Food and Dining Near Legazpi City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Bicolano cuisine is celebrated for its bold flavors, often featuring a delightful combination of spicy chilies, creamy coconut milk, and savory ingredients. A must-try dish is Bicol Express, a rich stew made with pork, shrimp paste, coconut milk, and an abundance of siling labuyo (bird's eye chilies). Its fiery kick is balanced by the creamy coconut milk, creating a truly satisfying flavor profile that many Filipino travelers seek out.

Another local delicacy is Laing, which consists of dried taro leaves simmered in coconut milk with pork or fish. The slow cooking process allows the flavors to meld beautifully, resulting in a tender and flavorful dish. The subtle heat from the chilies adds a pleasant warmth, making it a comforting and authentic taste of the region. You can find excellent versions of both Bicol Express and Laing in local eateries around Legazpi City.

For seafood lovers, fresh catches from the nearby seas are a highlight. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid are prepared simply to let the natural flavors shine. Many restaurants in Legazpi City offer these, often served with a side of soy sauce, calamansi, and chili. Enjoying these fresh seafood dishes, perhaps with a view of the coast, is a delightful culinary experience.

Don't forget to try Pinangat, a dish similar to Laing but often wrapped in gabi leaves and steamed. It can contain fish, shrimp, or meat, all cooked in coconut milk with spices. The preparation results in a moist and flavorful parcel that is a true representation of Bicolano cooking. Exploring the local markets and smaller carinderias can lead you to some of the most authentic and delicious versions of these regional specialties.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Legazpi City

The people of Legazpi City, like most Filipinos, are known for their warmth and hospitality. A simple "po" and "opo" when addressing elders, and a friendly smile go a long way in fostering positive interactions. Respecting local customs, such as dressing modestly when visiting churches or religious sites, is appreciated. The local dialect is Bicolano, but Tagalog and English are widely understood, especially in tourist areas and hotels.

Safety in Legazpi City is generally good, but as with any travel, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded places. It's advisable to use reputable transportation services and be cautious of unsolicited offers. For emergencies, local police can be reached at 911, and it's good to have the hotel's contact number readily available. Staying informed about local conditions is always a smart practice.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around the city and finding your way to attractions. Ride-hailing apps can be useful for convenient transport, and a translation app might be helpful if you plan to venture into more remote areas where English might be less common. Having these tools on your smartphone can make your trip smoother and more enjoyable.

For booking accommodations and activities, Traveloka is your go-to app. It allows you to easily compare prices, read reviews, and secure bookings for hotels and attractions, ensuring you get the best value for your money. Modern hotel with pretensions of being a really top class hotel. Room was clean and functional. Had to wait a few minutes for check in while receptionist dealt with phone calls. Cookies in the cafe were excellent.

The room was spacious with nice view of Mayon volcano. The water pressure and hot water supply in bathroom area left something to be desired. Rooms in general could use updating. Breakfast buffet options were good but found a insect inside one of the juices. Staff were not as friendly as what I am used to. In general, it was a good place to stay though in this non tourist town.

Stayed here before for convenience- same Moldy toilet and bathroom, carpet hallway in dire need of cleaning but this time around missing tv remote control on the 2nd day is added with a 2k charge. We have no idea how the remote conttol is missing in the room after housekeepinh service. So go somewhere else if there is another option.

Room was very clean. The staff person/receptionist seemed to not treat people equally. We show up 2 hours before check in and am told the room is not yet available. Some other couple Walk up to the counter shortly afterwards and are checked in / given their key to there room. My wife asks why are the checked in and we're still waiting and is told they are a different condition - whatever that means, but the manager steps in and gets us checked in. Then we ask about the shuttle transportation to airport. They told us it was first come first serve in regards to space for the 0500 ride to the airport and the shuttle was already booked. Then they when we get to our room 10 minutes later they call and tell us space has opened up. At 0500 the next morning we find we were the only couple going to the airport.

I love that they provide airport pickup and drop-off. Their staff are very welcoming and helpful. Hotel still needs a lot of improvement in terms of keeping the rooms clean and the walls repainted. Breakfast buffet is good but their coffee shop menu and food quality are so disappointing.

Modern hotel with pretensions of being a really top class hotel. Room was clean and functional. Had to wait a few minutes for check in while receptionist dealt with phone calls. Cookies in the cafe were excellent.
