We stayed here during our layover otw to Jakarta. The staff was helpful to order a taxi (twice, as the first one left us; completely our mistake). Our room was super spacious with two larger single beds. The bathroom was also super big. All in all, it was a recharging stay there. Will definitely go back.

The hotel's location is excellent, right next to the LRT station. My suite on the 8th floor directly overlooked the airport. Breakfast was also good, and the room amenities were excellent.

First trip at Zhongli for me. I can just say wow! I thought the hotel inside the building didn't have anything special, but oh my god, inside they decorated very, very well. If next time I visit Zhongli one more time, this place is still my first choice.

More about hotels in Yangmei

Yangmei: A Gateway to Taiwan's Diverse Charms

For travellers from the Philippines seeking an authentic Taiwanese experience beyond the usual tourist trails, Yangmei offers a compelling blend of local life, burgeoning industry, and accessible natural beauty. While Taiwan is renowned for its bustling metropolises and serene mountain landscapes, Yangmei, situated within the dynamic Taoyuan City, presents a more grounded yet equally rewarding exploration. It’s a place where you can witness the pulse of modern Taiwanese development alongside pockets of traditional charm, making it an ideal destination for those who appreciate a destination with depth and character.

This region is not a monolithic entity; Yangmei itself is a district within the larger Taoyuan City, which encompasses several distinct areas, each with its own flavour. From the commercial hubs of Zhongli and Taoyuan to the more tranquil settings of Longtan and the proximity to the airport in Dayuan, choosing where to base yourself in the greater Yangmei area significantly shapes your travel experience. Understanding these nuances allows for a more tailored and enjoyable trip, whether you're drawn to urban exploration or a more relaxed pace.

With an average starting price of approximately ₱ 2,850.56 per night and a solid review score of 7.8 from over 568 guests, Yangmei presents itself as a destination offering considerable value for international visitors. For travellers from the United States, Europe, India, and Africa, this translates into an opportunity to experience Taiwanese culture and hospitality without the premium price tags often associated with more established tourist hotspots. It’s a chance to explore a region that provides a genuine glimpse into Taiwanese daily life.

The accommodation landscape in Yangmei mirrors its diverse character, offering options that cater to various preferences and budgets. From the family-friendly amenities at Lido Forest Resort Hotel, a 3.5-star property with a rating of 8 and 342 reviews, to the more budget-conscious yet well-regarded Good Night Hotel, a 3-star establishment with a 7.2 rating from 77 guests, there's a clear indication of the range available. These hotels serve as excellent starting points for travellers looking to book hotel stays that align with their travel plans.

Yangmei is particularly well-suited for a variety of international travellers. For American and European visitors, it offers a chance to delve into a less-trodden path, exploring local markets and experiencing authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Indian travellers will appreciate the connectivity and the potential for diverse culinary experiences, often at favourable prices. While direct connections for African travellers might be less common, the region's accessibility and value proposition make it an attractive option for those seeking a unique Asian adventure.

Best Areas to Stay in Yangmei

Yangmei, while a distinct district, is part of the larger Taoyuan City, a region characterized by its diverse urban and suburban landscapes. For international visitors, understanding the different neighbourhoods and districts within this area is crucial, as each offers a unique atmosphere, set of attractions, and convenience factors. Choosing the right base can significantly enhance your exploration, whether you prioritize proximity to transport hubs, cultural sites, or a more relaxed local vibe.

Yangmei District

The heart of Yangmei district itself offers a compelling mix of local life and developing commercial areas, making it a practical choice for many international visitors. It’s here that you can experience the authentic rhythm of Taiwanese daily life, with bustling local markets and a strong sense of community. This area would particularly appeal to travellers from India and other parts of Asia who are accustomed to vibrant street life and a wide array of local eateries, offering a familiar yet distinctly Taiwanese environment.

From this central district, exploring attractions like the Yangmei Market provides a sensory immersion into local produce, street food, and crafts. The Taiwan Sports Lottery, a popular spot for locals, is also within reach, offering a glimpse into local leisure activities. Getting to Yangmei district is straightforward, with regular train services connecting it to major cities and Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), making it a convenient base for those who want to be in the midst of local activity.

Longtan District

Longtan District offers a more serene and nature-oriented experience compared to the bustling urban centres. It's an area that appeals to travellers seeking a respite from city life, with its reservoirs and green spaces providing opportunities for outdoor activities. This district would resonate well with European travellers who appreciate scenic beauty and a slower pace, offering a chance to unwind and connect with Taiwan's natural landscapes, perhaps after a busy itinerary in other parts of the island.

Attractions in Longtan include the scenic Daxi Reservoir and various hiking trails, providing a refreshing contrast to urban exploration. For those interested in local culture, smaller temples and traditional craft shops can be found. While not directly served by a major airport, Longtan is accessible via public transport from Taoyuan City, and from here, travellers can easily book attractions that showcase the region's natural beauty and agricultural heritage, offering a peaceful escape. Dayuan District

Dayuan District is primarily known for its proximity to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), making it an exceptionally convenient choice for travellers with early morning or late-night flights, or those on short layovers. This area caters to a transient population but also offers modern amenities and business-oriented hotels. It's a practical base for travellers from all regions, especially those from the Philippines, who value efficiency and ease of access to international travel connections.

The main draw of Dayuan is its airport connectivity, with numerous hotels offering shuttle services. Beyond the airport, the district has some industrial parks and commercial zones. For travellers staying here, exploring nearby attractions might involve a short trip into Taoyuan City or Zhongli. Its primary appeal lies in its function as a gateway, ensuring smooth transitions for international journeys and offering a comfortable, albeit less culturally immersive, stay.

Zhongli District

Zhongli District stands out as a major commercial and transportation hub within Taoyuan City, offering a dynamic urban environment with a wide array of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. It's a district that appeals to a broad range of international travellers, including those from the Philippines and other Asian countries, who enjoy the convenience of a well-developed city with excellent public transport links and a lively atmosphere. The presence of numerous hotels and amenities makes it a popular choice.

As a significant urban centre, Zhongli boasts numerous shopping malls, department stores, and a vibrant night market scene, providing ample opportunities for retail therapy and culinary exploration. It's also a key transit point, with the TRA Zhongli Station offering extensive rail connections. Travellers can easily access attractions within the district and beyond, making it a strategic base for exploring the wider Taoyuan region and experiencing the energetic side of Taiwanese city life.

Guishan District

Guishan District presents a more mixed character, blending industrial zones with residential areas and some notable educational institutions. It offers a glimpse into a different facet of Taoyuan's development, often characterized by a more local feel than the primary commercial centres. This district might appeal to travellers who are visiting for specific business purposes or who are interested in exploring areas that are less frequented by mass tourism, offering a more authentic, everyday Taiwanese experience.

Within Guishan, visitors might find local parks and community centres that offer insights into local life. Its proximity to some of Taoyuan City's main thoroughfares means that other attractions are still relatively accessible. For those seeking a quieter, more residential base away from the main tourist crowds, Guishan can provide a comfortable and practical option, allowing for a more in-depth understanding of the region's diverse urban fabric.

Taoyuan District

Taoyuan District, the administrative capital of Taoyuan City, is a significant urban centre with a blend of commercial activity, cultural sites, and modern infrastructure. It serves as a key gateway to the region and offers a comprehensive range of services and attractions for international visitors. The district is well-served by public transportation, including bus routes and proximity to major train lines, facilitating easy exploration of the city and surrounding areas. While Luzhu may not have major tourist landmarks, it offers a genuine slice of Taiwanese suburban life. Its accessibility to other parts of Taoyuan City means that attractions are still within reach. For those seeking Halal options, it's advisable to look for restaurants that explicitly state Halal certification or focus on vegetarian dishes, as traditional Taiwanese cuisine often incorporates pork. Researching specific Halal-certified eateries in Taoyuan City or Zhongli beforehand is recommended for Muslim travellers.

Dining in Yangmei offers excellent value for money, aligning well with the budgets of international travellers. Street food snacks can be enjoyed for as little as ₱ 50-100, while a satisfying meal at a local restaurant might range from ₱ 200-400. Even more upscale dining experiences are generally more affordable than in many Western countries, with a three-course meal at a mid-range restaurant costing around ₱ 800-1,500. This affordability allows travellers to indulge in a wide array of local delicacies.

When dining in Yangmei, embracing local customs enhances the experience. Tipping is not customary in Taiwan, so the prices listed are generally what you will pay. Meal times are similar to Western schedules, with breakfast typically from 7-9 AM, lunch from 12-2 PM, and dinner from 6-8 PM. It's polite to wait for your host to begin eating, and finishing your food is seen as a compliment to the cook. Many establishments offer free tea, and it's common to refill your own cup.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Yangmei

Navigating a new culture involves understanding its social cues and safety practices, and Yangmei, like any destination, has its own set of norms. While Taiwanese society is generally polite and welcoming, being aware of local etiquette can prevent misunderstandings and foster more positive interactions. This is particularly important for international visitors who may not be familiar with the nuances of East Asian customs, ensuring a smoother and more respectful travel experience.

When visiting places like the Yangmei Market or the Taiwan Sports Lottery, maintaining a respectful demeanour is key. Dress modestly, especially when visiting temples or more traditional areas, avoiding overly revealing clothing. Photography is usually permitted in markets, but it's always courteous to ask permission before taking close-up shots of individuals or their stalls. Queuing is orderly, and patience is appreciated, reflecting a general respect for public space and shared resources.

For travellers from the Philippines and other nations, Yangmei is considered a safe destination. Standard precautions for managing valuables, such as using hotel safes and being aware of your surroundings in crowded areas, are advisable. Public transportation is reliable and safe, and ride-hailing apps are available, though local taxi services are also common and generally trustworthy. Having offline maps and translation apps on your smartphone can be incredibly useful for navigation and communication.

In case of emergencies, the general emergency number in Taiwan is 110 for police and 119 for fire and ambulance services. While there isn't a Philippine Embassy in Taoyuan, the Philippine Economic and Cultural Office (PECO) in Taipei serves as the de facto embassy for Filipinos in Taiwan. It's wise to have their contact details readily available, along with information on travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, ensuring peace of mind during your stay.

Getting to Yangmei and Getting Around

For travellers from the Philippines, reaching Yangmei involves a flight to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), the primary gateway serving the region. Direct flights from Manila (MNL) and Cebu (CEB) are available with various airlines, typically taking around 2 to 3 hours. Connecting flights from other Philippine hubs might involve a layover. The cost of flights can vary significantly based on the season and booking time, but budget around ₱ 8,000 to ₱ 15,000 for a round trip.

Once you land at TPE, getting to Yangmei is straightforward. Airport MRT services connect you to Taoyuan City and Zhongli, from where you can take local buses or taxis to Yangmei district. Alternatively, direct bus services or pre-booked private transfers are available. Within Yangmei and the surrounding Taoyuan City area, public transportation is efficient. The local bus network is extensive, and the TRA (Taiwan Railways Administration) provides convenient links between districts like Yangmei, Zhongli, and Taoyuan.

The best time to visit Yangmei generally falls during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months. During these periods, the weather is pleasant, with mild temperatures and lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor exploration. Summer (June to August) can be hot and humid with a risk of typhoons, while winter (December to February) is cooler and can be damp. Visiting during the shoulder seasons often means fewer crowds and potentially better hotel rates.

Before your trip to Yangmei, ensure you have your passport with at least six months of validity. The local currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (NTD), and while major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, carrying some cash is essential for markets and smaller vendors. Purchasing a local SIM card at the airport is recommended for easy data access. Essential apps include Google Maps for navigation, Google Translate for communication, and potentially a local transport app.
