I choose this hotel because it was cheap, and i was very pleased and surprised with how nice it was. I did upgrade my room to a double of $6 USD a night extra. I was very pleased, and Ximen is a great area, with great bars and places to eat.

I took a gamble with staying at this place, and this was a gamble firstly in terms of the lack of reviews, and secondly, in terms of the price. I have to say it is one my less pleasurable experiences in a hotel. The room is absolutely tiny. It feels a little claustrophobic. This would obviously vary depending on room, but the window view I had was just of a wall about 2m away of all the piping. I actually think I might prefer no window to a view of the wall. The bathroom had its own problems too. For example, the showerhead couldn't really be secured in a fixed position because the holder (or the showerhead) itself was a little damaged. The toilet was also very small, and it is also not properly concealed as there is no lock. The windows are also glazed mostly through the middle, with the bottom maybe 20cm being unglazed, which allows people to see through. The sink is very small. I absolutely wouldn't recommend staying here with anyone you're not close/comfortable with (due to the bathroom situation), or someone with big luggage (due to the size of the room). They do have a lift, the location is also quite fantastic, and the service (depending on who you get) is decent. The lady who works during the day is quite pleasant, but the overnight gentleman doesn't seem as friendly.

1. A room I got after I checked-in was very smoky smell (cigarette). I saw housekeeper wore a mask when she was cleaning, so she didn't know how room smelt. I suggest all housekeeper should take a mask off when they finish cleaning in order to check smell in the room. Anyway, a woman at reception (around 9pm on November 22, 2019) was very nice, she helped me a lot, and she changed a room for me finally. 2. When I checked out with another woman in the next day (in the morning on November 23), returned the room key, and I asked her to leave my luggages. I stood in front of the counter because I expected to get a tag or something to show when I would come back to get my luggage, then she said "have a seat please". So, I thought she was doing some checked out stuff or my luggage stuff, then I sat at the reception for 5 mins. I felt too long, then I asked her that everything is ok? She said it was done for long time, and she didn't ask me to wait. But, I insisted she said that. She should learn how to communicate when customers check out and leave their luggages. For example, she should have said something like "It's all done", "Thank you", "Have a good day", instead of saying nothing. 3. I have been in Taipei and Taichung many times and stayed in different places. This hotel is only a place where they don't have a tag when I leave luggages or stuff with them. It's NOT secure at all, if you want to leave stuff with them!!

This place needs to be improved. Checking in and out was smooth. The location is OK, it takes a minute to get your bearings but once you finger it it's obvious. Plus, there's a neon sign out the front of the alleyway. The room was quite poor. It had this smokey, musky smell that was quite strong and the bathroom fan was always on, I couldn't turn it off so, it made sleeping very difficult. However, it was cheap so, I'm not too annoyed about it.

The single room is extremely small place but clean, very similar to the HK “cage house”, it’s only 5 sq ft big. I was hardly able to carry my backpack and not knock something behind. However, on the other hand, it’s good that the layout was very well done, all the amenities that a guest need are there. Having said that, to stay for a night or 2 is perfect.
