Luckily, we didn't come during the high season, so we got a cheap room rate. The accommodation is near Ao Ton Sai, just a few dozen steps away. The receptionist provided good service. The room was very nice, and the bed was soft. The breakfast was very good and delicious. There were many choices, including Thai food such as fried rice and Pad See Ew, or American breakfast. If I go to Koh Phi Phi Don again, I will definitely come back to stay here.

For Filipino travellers seeking an international escape that balances natural splendour with engaging activities, Phi Phi Don presents an exceptional choice, providing a unique blend of adventure and relaxation that sets it apart from the mainland or other island archipelagos.

The island's charm lies in its diverse topography, which translates into varied experiences depending on where you choose to base yourself. From the bustling energy of Ton Sai Bay, the main hub of activity and arrival point, to quieter, more secluded stretches of coastline, Phi Phi Don offers a spectrum of environments. Understanding these distinct neighbourhoods is key to tailoring your trip, ensuring your accommodation aligns with your desired pace and interests, whether you seek the convenience of proximity to services or the tranquility of a more remote setting.

For international visitors, Phi Phi Don offers remarkable value, with accommodation starting at an accessible ₱ 282.60 per night, complemented by an impressive average review score of 8.1 from over 8,000 guest experiences. This combination signifies a destination that delivers on quality and experience without demanding an exorbitant price tag. The accommodation landscape in Phi Phi Don is as varied as its scenery, featuring options that cater to every preference and budget. Properties like the Chaokoh Phi Phi Hotel & Resort, a well-regarded 3-star establishment, and the popular Phi Phi Banyan Villa, also a 3-star hotel, exemplify the quality and range available. These hotels, situated in the heart of the action, provide a comfortable and convenient base for exploring the island, and serve as excellent starting points for those looking to book hotel accommodations that offer both value and accessibility.

Phi Phi Don is a destination that truly has something for everyone, making it an ideal choice for a wide array of international travellers. American visitors often seek the iconic viewpoints and adventurous excursions, while Europeans might be drawn to the laid-back island vibe and opportunities for diving and snorkelling. Indian travellers frequently appreciate the blend of affordability, delicious cuisine, and the vibrant atmosphere, often looking for well-connected and value-driven options. For travellers from Africa, Phi Phi Don offers a gateway to Southeast Asian island beauty, providing a memorable and accessible international experience.

Best Areas to Stay in Phi Phi Don

Phi Phi Don, while an island, is comprised of distinct areas, each offering a unique atmosphere and set of amenities that can significantly shape your travel experience. For international visitors, understanding these nuances is crucial for selecting the perfect base. Whether you're drawn to the lively pulse of the main town or the serene beauty of a secluded beach, choosing the right neighbourhood in Phi Phi Don ensures your stay aligns perfectly with your expectations for adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion.

Ton Sai Bay

Ton Sai Bay is the vibrant heart of Phi Phi Don, serving as the island's primary arrival point and bustling centre of activity. This area pulses with energy, offering a lively atmosphere that appeals to travellers seeking constant engagement and easy access to amenities. For backpackers and younger travellers from the US and Europe, the abundance of bars, restaurants, and tour operators makes it an exciting and convenient base. Its accessibility and dynamic environment make it a prime spot for those who want to be in the thick of things.

From Ton Sai Bay, you are perfectly positioned to explore the island's famous landmarks, including Ao Ton Sai Beach and the Ko Phi Phi Pier. Numerous boat tours depart daily, offering excursions to Maya Bay and other stunning nearby islands. The area is packed with dive shops, souvenir stalls, and a wide array of dining options, from street food vendors to beachfront restaurants. Getting to Ton Sai Bay typically involves a ferry from Phuket or Krabi, with the pier located right in the heart of the bay, making transfers seamless.

Long Beach

Long Beach offers a more tranquil escape while remaining conveniently close to the main attractions of Phi Phi Don. This stretch of coastline is known for its beautiful sandy shores and a more relaxed ambiance compared to the bustling Ton Sai Bay. It's an ideal area for travellers from Europe and North America who appreciate a balance between natural beauty and accessibility, offering a peaceful retreat without being completely isolated. The gentle lapping of waves and the expansive views make it a serene choice.

The primary draw of Long Beach is its stunning namesake beach, perfect for sunbathing and swimming. While quieter than Ton Sai, it still boasts a selection of beachfront restaurants and bars, offering a more laid-back dining experience. Day trips and snorkelling excursions can be easily arranged from here, and the proximity to the main pier means access to further adventures is straightforward. Getting to Long Beach from the main pier involves a short longtail boat ride or a pleasant walk, making it easily accessible for those who want to book attractions and explore.

Loh Dalum Bay

Loh Dalum Bay presents a captivating contrast to Ton Sai Bay, offering a more laid-back, yet still lively, atmosphere with a focus on stunning natural beauty. This crescent-shaped bay is renowned for its shallow, calm waters and picturesque setting, making it a favourite among travellers seeking a blend of relaxation and social interaction. It appeals particularly to younger international crowds and those looking for a picturesque spot to unwind, enjoy the sunset, and experience the island's nightlife in a slightly more relaxed setting than the main town.

The bay is dotted with charming beachfront bungalows and resorts, many offering direct access to the soft sands and clear waters. While it has a more relaxed vibe, Loh Dalum Bay is still home to a good selection of restaurants and bars, some of which come alive in the evening with fire shows and music. It's a great starting point for exploring nearby viewpoints and snorkelling spots. Access is typically via a short walk over the headland from Ton Sai Bay, making it easily reachable for day-trippers and those staying nearby.

Northern Beaches (e.g., Laem Tong Beach)

For those seeking a more secluded and upscale island experience, the northern beaches of Phi Phi Don, such as Laem Tong Beach, offer a distinct appeal. This area is characterized by its pristine sands, clear waters, and a more resort-focused environment, providing a peaceful sanctuary away from the main crowds. It's particularly suited for travellers from Europe and North America looking for a luxurious and tranquil escape, where the focus is on relaxation and enjoying the natural beauty in a more exclusive setting.

Laem Tong Beach is home to several higher-end resorts, offering a range of amenities and activities, including diving centres and water sports. The atmosphere here is significantly more relaxed, with dining options primarily concentrated within the resorts. While it offers a serene environment, access to the main island activities and attractions requires a boat transfer, which can be arranged from the resorts. This makes it an ideal choice for travellers who prioritize peace and quiet and are content with the amenities provided by their chosen accommodation.

Remote Coves and Beaches

Beyond the main populated areas, Phi Phi Don is dotted with numerous smaller coves and secluded beaches accessible primarily by boat. These hidden spots offer the ultimate escape for travellers seeking solitude and unspoiled natural beauty. They are perfect for adventurous spirits, couples on a romantic getaway, or anyone looking to experience the raw, untouched allure of the Phi Phi islands. This segment of the island appeals to those who value privacy and a deep connection with nature above all else.

These remote locations are often the destinations for private boat tours, allowing visitors to discover pristine snorkelling sites, quiet beaches for picnics, and breathtaking viewpoints away from the usual tourist trails. While accommodation is scarce in these areas, they serve as incredible day-trip destinations from the more established hubs like Ton Sai Bay or Long Beach. Exploring these coves is an essential part of experiencing the full, wild beauty of Phi Phi Don, offering a chance to truly disconnect and appreciate the island's natural wonders.
