  • Liberty Leading the People by Eugene Delacroix

Liberty Leading the People is a painting created in 1830 and is one of the must-see paintings at the Louvre Museum. This painting by Eugene Delacroix depicts the French Revolution and the overthrow of Charles X. The focus of this painting is the naked woman Liberty carrying the French flag and a gun.

  • Venus de Milo by Alexandros of Antioch

This marble sculpture is still a mystery. Some people think that Venus de Milo was a statue made to resemble Aphrodite, the god that the people of the island of Melos worshipped at the time. However, some other historians think the Venus de Milo replicates an earlier statue. What makes this statue even more mysterious is its missing hand, some people think it may have been holding a mirror, an apple, or a shield.

  • Great Sphinx of Tanis from Ruins of the Temple of Amun-Ra in Tanis

The Great Sphinx is an Egyptian treasure made to honour the sun god, represented by the body of a lion, and honour the king, represented by a human head. The statue was discovered in 1825, as part of the ruins of the Temple of Amun-Ra. The Great Sphinx is claimed to be the largest Sphinx statue outside of Egypt today.

You can also see some collections of crown jewels, although these are not categorised as traditional art or historically important. At the Louvre Museum, you can see crown jewels with 141-carat diamonds, one of which is the Regent Diamond.

  • Les Noces de Cana or The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese

One of the paintings in the Louvre Museum that illustrates Christian theology is Les Noces de Cana. This painting shows the exposed wedding at Cana, where Christ is said to have turned water into wine for thousands of wedding guests. The real beauty of this painting is the details that Paolo Veronese didn't miss. If you look closely, you can find dogs, parakeets, and cats.
