Five days is the sweet spot for a first visit to Singapore. It is enough time to experience the major landmarks without feeling rushed, to explore at least three or four distinct neighbourhoods at a genuinely unhurried pace, to fit in a theme park or wildlife park day, and to eat — properly and repeatedly — at the hawker centres and neighbourhood restaurants that define the city's food culture. This itinerary sequences each day around geographical clusters to minimise transit time, making the most of Singapore's compact geography and efficient MRT network.

Begin at Gardens by the Bay at 9 AM — the most comfortable morning temperature and the best light for photography. Walk the free Supertree Grove and waterfront, then spend 1–2 hours in the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest conservatories (pre-book online). Lunch at Satay by the Bay hawker stalls within the complex — charcoal satay overlooking the bay is one of Singapore's great lunch settings.
Afternoon: Stroll the Marina Bay waterfront promenade west toward the Merlion, pause at the ArtScience Museum (ticketed exhibitions) or explore the Esplanade roof terrace (free views). Late afternoon: MBS SkyPark Observation Deck — book a 6 PM slot to watch the city transform from golden hour to blue hour from the 56th floor. Evening: Garden Rhapsody light show at Gardens by the Bay (free, 7:45 PM or 8:45 PM). Dinner at Clarke Quay's waterfront restaurants or Maxwell Food Centre nearby.
A full day of cultural Singapore — all three neighbourhoods within 2–3 MRT stops of each other. Start with a Chinatown kopitiam breakfast (kaya toast, kopi), then explore the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Sri Mariamman Temple (both free), and pick up lunch at Maxwell Food Centre — Tian Tian Chicken Rice is the destination, arrive before noon. Afternoon: MRT to Little India for Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, Tekka Centre, and the sensory fullness of Serangoon Road. Late afternoon: MRT to Bugis for Kampong Glam — Sultan Mosque, Haji Lane street art and boutiques, and Arab Street. Evening dinner in Kampong Glam's excellent halal restaurant scene on Bussorah Street.
A full Sentosa day — take the Sentosa Express from HarbourFront MRT (via VivoCity level 3) or cable car from Mount Faber for harbour views. Choice: Universal Studios Singapore (book online, arrive at 10 AM opening) for the full theme park experience, or Adventure Cove Waterpark in the morning followed by a Palawan Beach afternoon for a mix of rides and beach time. Evening: sunset drinks at Tanjong Beach Club, or cable car back to the mainland. Dinner at Vivocity's restaurant floor or East Coast Lagoon Food Village (Singapore's only beachfront hawker centre).
A quieter, more neighbourhood-focused day. Begin at Singapore Botanic Gardens before 9 AM — UNESCO World Heritage garden at its most peaceful. Allow 2–3 hours: National Orchid Garden (SGD 5), Swan Lake, and the Rainforest trail. Admission to most of the Botanic Gardens is free; the National Orchid Garden charges a small fee that is subject to change — verify before visiting. Late morning: MRT to Tiong Bahru for Singapore's most charming art deco neighbourhood. Lunch at Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre (Jian Bo Shui Kueh and char kway teow), then café-hop along Yong Siak Street. Afternoon: MRT to Orchard Road — window-shopping or serious retail, depending on preference. Evening: return to the city for dinner at a Keong Saik Road restaurant or any Chinatown option you didn't try on Day 2.
The final day divides into wildlife in the morning and coastline in the evening. Singapore Zoo opens at 8:30 AM — arrive early for the cooler temperatures and freshest animal activity. The zoo is genuinely world-class; plan 3–4 hours. Alternative: Day at the full Mandai campus combining River Wonders and Bird Paradise. If Night Safari is on the list, this is the day — it opens at 6:30 PM and runs to midnight, meaning a half-day at the zoo in the morning and Night Safari in the evening is entirely feasible.
Afternoon: East Coast Park — cycle the 15-kilometre beachfront, rent boards, or simply walk the path alongside the Singapore Strait watching container ships on the horizon. Dinner: East Coast Lagoon Food Village for an evening of stingray on banana leaf, chilli clams, and cold beer by the sea — the perfect farewell meal.
