We would like to call on all of our friends who do not live in the West or.. even some of our WestSide friends who have not explored the better part of their own homeland yet! The West of Singapore has so much to offer with hidden gems that you may or may not know of! The West almost feels like a trip to another country but we decided that it will be fun to go down one day!

Here is how we began our one day adventure to the West - Start your day with a morning walk through the beautiful Jurong Lake Gardens and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. If you don’t already know, morning walks give a kind of good vibes that will start your day right!

1. Jurong Lake Gardens

Jurong Lake Gardens is seated right beside Lakeside MRT and only a 3 minute walk from there! When we stepped foot into the garden, we were amazed by the lush greenery and scenic views that it offers. Just WOW! We never knew a garden like this was around in Singapore.

There’s a beautiful green patch where we can picture families and friends coming together for a picnic and even have a kite flying session! Alternatively, you can take a stroll around the garden and just enjoy being with nature. If you are hungry, there is a local eatery called Fusion Spoon where you can fill your tummies with local delicacies. Trust us, the laksa we had was pretty yummy!

2. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Admire and bask in the lush greenery at Bukit Timah Nature as you hike and learn more about the flora and fauna that they have there! Fun fact: Bukit Timah Nature Reserve was declared as an ASEAN Heritage Park in 2011.

Get your mosquito repellent ready as you make your way through Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and most importantly, please finish your food and keep them sealed tight as you wouldn’t want to invite unexpected guests like monkeys to join you on your hike!

Other than exploring the greens, do explore the visitor centre to find out more about Bukit Timah Reserve! The exhibition gallery has a forest ecology, interactive touchscreens and also two very beautiful Sumatran tiger duplicates. If you are tired, grab a snack or drink at the vending machine to fuel up!

3. Snow City

Snow City is no stranger to us who grew up in Singapore and it was a place that holds the fondest memories during our childhood! But if you are new to Snow City - it is Singapore’s one and only indoor snow centre! It is a place for families, both young and old, to have some wholesome fun together. Let us show you what great fun we had whilst we were there!

Before entering the main attraction of Snow City - you’ll be walking through the Ice Hotel Gallery which builds across a 17-metre snow field and there are five thematic snow art installations. Definitely a new experience you do not want to miss!

The Snow Chamber is the highlight of Snow City as that’s where the fun comes to life! Sled down the slope and sled as many times as you’d like till your heart's content! Fun facts: the snow level in the Snow Chamber goes as high as 400mm in depth and minimally 150 tons of snow are used to cover the snow chamber. The Snow Chamber is the attraction that you’re definitely there for and it is not to be missed!

Drift on Ice is essentially bumper cars in the cold and we mean: freezing cold. Drive and bump with no strings attached - kiss traffic rules and routes goodbye! What’s better than bumping into someone on purpose and not hurting them? Bumper car aka Drift on Ice, get your bump on now!

One of the other fun we had was the Winter Shooting Arena and it was one of the best and newest experiences that we tried! The Winter Shooting Arena is the same as target shooting that we play at carnivals but this is in an elevated manner and best of all? You get to shoot in the cold or rather in a winter environment! Stand your ground, eyes on your target and fire!

You have to try out and experience Snow City for yourself and get your tickets from $12!

4. Rider’s Cafe

Our last stop of the day: Rider’s Cafe. Unlike ordinary cafes, it is a modern European restaurant that is located in the heart of Bukit Timah. It is hidden in the lush greenery where you get to dine while viewing horses - how cool is that? Besides, it is a great place for brunch for families with kids, they are going to love being near the horses! Pro-tip: If you’re there, you have to get a cold drink to beat the heat! We had the iced vanilla chai latte and it was superb.

This sums up our one day adventure to the West! While the journey was long, we still had heaps of fun exploring and trying new things to do. It is definitely worth the trip down! So, to other North Easties or wherever you are staying in Singapore, you can always find a day to explore the West side!
