Guangzhou is hands down one of my favourite cities for shopping. It has everything , huge malls, wholesale fashion markets, even places that feel like tech heaven. When I visited, I didn’t just look around, I actually bought things and tested how easy (or tricky) it was to get there, what’s worth buying, and how to avoid tourist traps. If you're planning to shop in Guangzhou, this guide might help you skip the confusion and go straight to the good stuff.

Pazhou Complex Shopping Circle
This area is best known for the Canton Fair, but even when the fair’s not on, there are loads of showrooms and wholesale centres worth visiting. It’s popular for fashion, home goods, electronics, and factory outlet shopping , especially for bulk buying or business-related purchases.
Many tenants here also offer Guangzhou shopping online through platforms like 1688.com, Alibaba, or even Taobao, which makes it easier if you prefer wholesale shopping without carrying everything home. I took Metro Line 8 and got off at Pazhou Station, then walked about 5 minutes from Exit A.

If it’s your first time here, I’d recommend bringing a suitcase or backpack if you're planning to buy in bulk. Not every shop accepts cards, so I kept some cash ready. It’s mostly business-focused, so don’t expect fancy cafés.

A Mid Autumn Festival themed installation in a shopping mall in Tianhe District
Tianhe is basically the heart of modern shopping in Guangzhou. You’ll find massive malls, brand stores, and fancy cafés all in one place. It’s popular for international fashion brands, beauty products, and electronics.
I took Metro Line 1 to Tianhe Sports Centre Station. The whole area is walkable once you get there. One thing I wish I knew earlier was to wear comfy shoes. I walked a lot without realising how far I’d gone. There are food courts and international chains if you get hungry.

shopping centers and shops on the street Yabaolu in Beijing
I saw ancient road ruins under glass panels right in the middle of busy stores, which was pretty unique. I came here mainly for clothes, jade accessories, skincare, and local snacks, and there were also plenty of souvenir shops. I took Metro Line 6 to Beijing Lu Station, and the main street was just outside the exit, so it was easy to find.
If it’s your first time here, I suggest going during the day because it gets really packed at night, and don’t be shy to bargain at the smaller shops, most sellers are used to it.

Tee mall is a major International level luxurious shopping mall
Teemall felt like a classic go-to spot for locals and visitors alike, it was modern, clean, and packed with well-known brands. I went there mainly for fashion and beauty shopping, but I also found sportswear, electronics, and some really nice cafés. It’s especially popular for stores like Uniqlo, Apple, Sephora, and Nike, and I noticed many of them also had online shops on Tmall and WeChat Mini Programs. I took Metro Line 1 to Tianhe Sports Centre Station, and the mall was just outside the exit , super easy to find. If it’s your first time, I suggest checking out their WeChat page before visiting. Some brands post flash sales or QR codes that lead to online discounts, which I wouldn’t have noticed just walking around.
Pedestrians pass through Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street
This street gave me a mix of old Cantonese charm and modern shopping energy. I walked through historical-looking buildings while snacking and browsing local clothing, shoes, and accessories. To get there, I took Metro Line 1 to Changshou Lu Station and walked for about five minutes. One thing I wish I knew earlier: this place really comes alive in the evening. I arrived in the late afternoon and stayed till night, the dim sum stalls and dessert vendors made it hard to leave.
China Plaza and Surrounding Shopping Area
This place was a nice surprise, not too crowded, and full of variety. I saw streetwear, local fashion brands, cute stationery, makeup, and even an arcade hidden on one of the floors. I got there by taking Metro Line 1 to Martyrs’ Park Station, then walked about 7 minutes. For new visitors, it’s best to ask politely for discounts in smaller shops, since not all prices are fixed. It’s also a great place to watch locals hang out, especially students.

Guangzhou Friendship store in Taojin
This area had a more relaxed feel compared to the big malls. I found small boutiques, designer outlets, and beauty stores hidden between cafés and office buildings. It’s popular for mid-range fashion, skincare, and imported goods. I got there by taking Metro Line 5 and getting off at Taojin Station, the shops are just a few minutes' walk from Exit B. This is a great place if you want to shop without the crowd. Some shops speak English quite well, and I noticed a few places had signs in Korean and Japanese too.

Street view of Wanjia Costume Wholesale Square in Guangzhou
Guangzhou Baima Costume Market was one of the busiest spots I visited for wholesale fashion. It’s packed with clothes of all styles, from party dresses to winter jackets, and well-known for factory outlet shopping at low prices. I got there by Metro Line 2, stopped at Guangzhou Railway Station, and walked for under 10 minutes. Since there are no fitting rooms, I brought a tape measure. Bargaining is common, and some sellers only deal in bulk.

Most of the shops here are also active in Guangzhou shopping online, through platforms like 1688, Taobao, and Pinduoduo. It’s a key area for shopping in China Guangzhou, especially if you're sourcing items for resale. Compared to polished malls like Grandview Mall Guangzhou, this market feels more direct and business-focused, but it’s still one of the most authentic Guangzhou shopping mall experiences. What I saw here also shows up in many Guangzhou shop listings and online Guangzhou store catalogues.

Grandview mall is a major International level luxurious shopping centre
This was one of the biggest malls I’ve ever seen. It had an aquarium inside, plus a skating rink and a cinema. I went there mainly for international fashion, beauty brands, and books, there’s also a whole section for kids. I took Metro Line 3 and stopped at Tianhe Station, then walked through a few underpasses to reach the main entrance. Plan to spend a few hours here, it’s massive. I took a break at one of the upper-floor cafés with a nice view of the city.

Hualin Jade Street mainly deals in retail, wholesale and jade and jewelry processing
This place was like walking into a world of gemstones. Hualin Jade Market had rows of stalls filled with jade bangles, pendants, carved figures, and other traditional Chinese stones. It's one of the best spots for jade shopping in Guangzhou, especially if you're hunting for souvenirs or collector’s items.
I got there by taking Metro Line 1 to Changshou Lu Station, then walked for around 10 minutes through some lively backstreets. One thing I learned here, it really helps to do a bit of research on jade quality beforehand. Some pieces looked beautiful but were priced way too high, so I took my time, asked around, and wasn’t afraid to walk away.

After exploring all these malls, I can honestly say shopping in Guangzhou isn’t just about what you buy, it’s about the experience, the variety, and the little surprises in between. From wholesale markets to high-end stores, I found something different in every corner.
And the best part? I booked my attraction tickets, flights, and hotels straight through the Traveloka App, which made the whole trip so much easier. If you're planning your own shopping trip, I hope this guide helps you skip the guesswork and go straight to the good stuff. Happy shopping!
